Application Guidelines
This game is heavy in lore and very story driven making character portrayal on this forum important. Applications here are used to help make sure we're all on the same page regarding how a new character will be introduced into the world. The application review will take into account many things, completeness, quality, spelling, grammar, that the correct words are used, personality of the character as demonstrated in the sample, etc. You will then receive a PM if any changes need to be made. On average reviews generally take one or two rounds of edits so don't be surprised when you check your PM's and find quite a few changes to be made in the initial review and then a few in the reply. You will have approximately three tries to make the application workable. Please credit any and all information that is not written explicitly by you. Please make sure to fully answer all the questions to the best of your ability in your own voice, not the character's POV.
Coding/Formatting and Application Template. We do not use a coded template that is pasted into a submissions forum to apply for a character. Instead simply navigate to the Application Forum and click Create Topic. You will be presented with a form to fill out and when posted, the application will display. This may be edited normally to adjust any mistakes or requested changes.
Spelling and Grammar. If the grammar and spelling errors in your application are noticeable to the point of being distracting, you will be asked to fix this before it can be further reviewed. To avoid this: A) Copy your application's information into a word processor then run a spelling/grammar check to make sure everything is correct. B) Reread your application a final time before you post it/mark it finished. A spelling/grammar check can help a lot but will not catch incorrect word substitutions, confusing sentences, or make sure everything is phrased the way you want it to be. Nor will it catch inaccurate information. Another thing to remember: 1337 isn't a real word. Nor are 'pwn' or 'lol.' When writing your application and subsequent posts you should make sure to use real words, correct punctuation, and be attempting to write in full and complete grammatically correct sentences.
NOTE: The primary language used on this forum is English. If English is not your first language, please PM a staff member at some point before or just after you post your application. We're willing to work with anyone that wants to play but we need to know what's going on up front.
Application Subject Line. Please clearly state who you are applying for in the subject line: Cinderella. Rosetta. Captain Hook. Etc.
Work In Progress (WIP). If your application is not complete at the time you post it, make sure to mark it as a Work In Progress (WIP) and then remove that label when you are finished. (Ex. Rosetta [WIP]) You have one week to finish your application at which time any incomplete WIP applications (and any that have not fulfilled requested changes) along with their authoring account will be deleted. (Please note that there must be some kind of text in each box in order for the application to post.)
Application Character Image. This should be a screencap of the character from the movie. It should also in no way stretch the board and should be of decent quality. Also, as with all images on the board, it should not include any moving animation and be an image uploaded to NickPicHost or a photo hosting site of your choice. (Do not hotlink images.) Simply paste the URL into the input field, you don't need to use any image tags.
Continuity. In the the Movie/TV Series section you must list all applicable Movie or Television series that your character appears in. If you aren't sure, please visit our Continuity List to see what is or isn't included. If there is something not on the list and/or you have a question, please PM a staff member.
Rank. The ranks of this board are: Force of Good, Force of Evil, Neutral, or Elite. Pick the one that you feel best represents your character. If you don't think your character falls into any of these categories please contact an Admin.
Powers, Skills, Strengths, and/or Any Other Abilities. List any special skills or powers your character has such as super strength, the ability to fly, etc. List any skills your character might have such as swordsmanship, proficiency at fixing electronics, diplomacy, etc. This section is ultimately where you describe your character’s strengths. Strengths can be anything that can help your character achieve a given goal including basic things like strong will, charisma, or even their social status like if they are royalty. Every character has something that they excel at or can do well even if they don't have super powers.
Backstory. Any character history that takes place prior to canon history from movies or TV series'. This section is optional for main** characters of movies. [EXPECTED LENGTH: Solid 2-5 paragraphs, no more than 10.]
Canon History/Character Knowledge. This should be written in third person and in past tense. This is where you discuss your character's history as far as any canon movie or television show is concerned. If you have a character had a whole TV series as well as multiple movies, it is only necessary to pick out a few of the most significant events. You should know the character you are playing. Most characters allowed on this board will only have one movie that is considered canon to their history and you will be expected to have seen it. Your character history should be in your own words and not completely copy and pasted from anywhere, describing the significant events and relationships in that character's life. Only include things specific to your character and their knowledge during the film, this should not be a complete summary of a movie, only what the character experienced. Choose the important events to give more details about and skim over the rest. This section is optional for main** and secondary** characters of movies. [EXPECTED LENGTH: Solid 5-10 paragraphs, no more than 15(Approx. 500-1250 words)]
Game Information. This is where you update us on what has happened to your character since the end of their movie/TV series. If any significant events happened since your character started their lives on Rohandor they should be explained here. Even just a general statement of what their life has been like. You should also include any plans or intent you have for this character so that the staff can see the direction you intend to take.
Anything Else. Anything else that might be relevant to this character. You should include things such as major weaknesses, personality quirks, or any random trivia. This section is overall optional but there isn't really any reason it should be left blank.
Sample Post. This is where you write the in-character sample of the character you are applying for. It is the single-most important part of your application particularly since we have no personality section. This is where you show the board how you plan to portray this character and how you write. This is our first and only impression of your RP skill so make sure to not only to focus on the quality of your writing and characterization, but make sure to craft an engaging and original scene to read. You may use other characters as needed since this is a sample and not game canon but be careful not to allow them to overshadow the character you are applying for. On the same note you should make sure that your sample isn't centered around a relationship or romantic gesture. Shipping is certainly a fun part of RP but if we think you're only taking a character to write them in a relationship with another character, your application may be denied. You may use something you have written for another game but it must be recent, for the character you are applying for, and fit the other criteria mentioned in this section. (If your sample takes place in some extreme AU please give some sort of brief set up. If your sample strays too far from their core personality you will be asked to write something else.) [EXPECTED LENGTH: Approximately 4 paragraphs. (300-500 words)]
**Main and Secondary Characters: Main characters include protagonists, antagonists, deuteragonists, and really any characters that are part of the main plot. Basically leading ladies, gents, and villains. Examples include: Snow White, Milo, and Oogie Boogie. Secondary characters might include Sebastian, Lady Cluck, the gargoyles from Hunchback. Any named characters really.
