(Continued from Londontown)
Peter led Alice up over London and up into the sky and through the clouds. They followed the second star and Peter was always careful not to leave her behind. He didnt have to worry too much about this, however, as Alice quickly got the hang of flying.
As the sun began to come up, filling the sky with pink and gold light, Peter Pan called over to Alice. “There it is!” He pointed down at a beautiful green island. A smile lit up Peter’s face, as it always did when he returned home.
“C’mon, Alice!” Peter dove for a nearby cloud and landed lightly upon it. He gestured for Alice to do the same. Once Alice was by his side, Peter leaned forward and pointed down at the Island below. “This is Neverland. There, in the Cove? That’s the Jolly Roger, Hook’s ship.” Peter looked to the rising sun, then back down at the ship. “They’re probably all still sleeping. I haven’t seen Hook in ages, but his men are still down there. A codfish, every one.”
Peter pointed out a few other landmarks. “There is Mermaids’ Lagoon and Marooner’s Rock. Over there is Pixie Hallow. On that outcrop is the Redskin Village. To the north, Skull Island.” Peter looked over at Alice. “Hangman’s tree is down there too. That's where the Lost Boys live.” Peter’s grin widened playfully. He thought Alice might have the makings of a Lost Boy. If she proved herself during their raid on the pirate ship, he’d name her one officially.
There was a distant concussive blast and Peter looked back at the ship, his grin becoming somewhat devious. “We’ve been spotted!” Peter grabbed Alice and pulled her to the side just as a huge cannon ball shot past the place she had been.

This was Alice's first real flying trip, and it was an exhilarating experience to say the least. Not having any idea how to navigate in the air, she tried her best to follow close behind him. Flying seemed to come naturally to her, because she already tended to have her head in the clouds- or more properly speaking, her vivid imagination allowed her happy thoughts to propel her very easily. It helped that, after her lengthy fall down the rabbit hole, she wasn't bothered by heights much.
At last, just as the two reached the sunrise, Peter announced their arrival in Neverland. But instead of heading straight for the island, they first surveyed it from above. Alice flopped herself down into the cloud as if it were a bed, before looking over the side as Peter explained the layout. It certainly looked like a beautiful place, and Peter's descriptions made it sound even more fascinating- the sort of place you'd find in adventure stories. "There must be many nice people living there. I should like to meet your friends, once we've found the map."
Though Peter had presumed the pirates were sleeping, which would have made things much easier, the distant boom of the cannon proved otherwise. Alice yelped a bit in surprise as she was pulled away, before looking back down at the ship. "They have cannons that can reach all the way up here?" she commented, not sure whether to be scared or impressed. It actually made sense in some ways- if Peter did this sort of thing often, the pirates might have decided to set their weapons up to hit a flying target. "How are we going to get to the ship now? They'll be shooting right at us!"
Once Peter was sure Alice was safe, he looked back down at the ship. “They were pretty close that time.” Peter laughed and put his hands up to shout down at the pirates below. “YOU’RE GETTING BETTER! Maybe in a THOUSAND YEARS you’ll actually hit me!” A round of angry slurs and curses came from below and Peter laughed mischievously.
Alice pointed out that being spotted made getting the map more difficult. “Hmm… you’re right. But it’ll be more fun this way.” Peter gave her a grin. “We’ll have to come from the jungle later today when they aren’t suspecting it.”
He pointed down to the huge skull-shaped island on the north side of the island. “See that? That’s Skull Island. I’ll meet you there and distract the pirates so you can escape.”
There was another distant boom, but this time they overcorrected too far the other way and missed both children by a good eight feet. Peter shook his head and laughed. “Now’s your chance, Alice!”
Peter didn’t wait for Alice to head off. Instead, he flew up and dove down for the pirate ship. The pirates shouted in alarm, drawing swords and muskets. Then Peter was flying amongst them, through them, pulling hats over eyes and dodging blades with ease.
Alice laughed as Peter taunted the pirates below them. She was too polite to join in quite so bluntly, but she did like to see how upset the pirates got. Peter was certainly putting those ruffians in their place!
It seemed, however, that their conspicuous approach had forced a change of plans. Rather than going straight for the pirate ship, they'd hide out for a while and approach on foot. "Exploring first and business later, then? I don't mind," she said. She wanted to see Peter's homeland, so the detour from their main objective was really no detour at all.
Peter directed her toward a skull-shaped island off in the distance. She wondered if it might have been a fossil of a real skull from a remarkably huge creature (dinosaur fossils being a subject of much discussion in the neighborhood), or if it had just been carved that way. Ordinarily, carving would seem like a much more likely option, but Neverland seemed like the sort of place where such giants might exist- though, if they did at one point, they certainly weren't around now, or they could be seen from the air!
The cannonball speeding by reminded Alice that these musings were beside the point. While Peter caused a ruckus aboard the pirate ship, Alice had to get away to reach the skull. Channeling her thoughts into flight, Alice took off, trusting that Peter would be right along after her.

Tormenting the pirates was one of Peter Pan’s favorite games. They were much more harmless without Captain Hook to lead them and spent most of the time drinking or looking for treasure. They rarely came looking for trouble with the Lost Boys these days and seemed to be content to wait for Captain Hook’s return before hatching any schemes.
He flew around them now, causing a whirlwind of chaos in his wake. Two pirates crashed into one another in their haste to try and grab Peter. Another fired his pistol and shot the hat off one of his crewmates. A net was dropped from above, but it was ill-timed and missed him. Peter had to laugh at that— they were at least trying!
Peter flew up to the front of the ship and scanned the skies. Alice was now out of sight and safe. He turned to the pirates and swept off his hat in a deep bow. “Better luck next time!”
He flew off, banking low over the ocean, flying as fast as he could just for the fun of it. Soon he was out of the lagoon and out of range of their cannons. He took the long way around the island, reaching down to trial his fingertips in the warm ocean below. Soon he rounded the west side of the island and caught sight of Skull Island just in time to see Alice land on the stoney beach.
He joined her there, dropping lightly to her feet.
“We’ll go back to the ship this afternoon. Most of ‘em will be asleep.”
