Participating Characters:Adam , Jack Skellington Forum Location: Kingdom of the Rose Time of Day: Early Afternoon Weather: Gray and Overcast Thread Location: Belle's Library Premise: Jack visits the Castle Library
Once Belle opened the castle’s library to the citizens of Rohandor, word quickly spread about the abundance of knowledge that could be found there. It was said to be one of the grandest libraries in all of Rohandor and many people came from far and wide in search of books that were not available on any of the other islands. Usually there was a steady stream of visitors taking the designated hallways from the castle’s grand entryway to the library itself, but on this day things were very different. Guards and maids and other servants all raised their eyebrows in shock as a mob of people rushed as quickly as they could without running out of the library and then out of the castle entirely.
Until only one visitor remained.
Jack Skellington had arrived only moments before, exclaimed loudly to himself that the Library was “Astounding!” and gone right to pursuing the shelves. He hadn’t noticed the pale faces of the humans, the barely-withheld screams, and their hasty retreat.
Jack had never seen so many books in all his existence. His boney fingertips itched to open each and every one. Where there books about Christmas here? About Halloween? Surely, with all these books, there had to be one on every subject imaginable.
The Pumpkin King stepped up to one of the shelves, observing with delight that the ladder was attached and moved quite easily on clever little wheels. “Oh, Sally would love this. Next time I will bring her with me.”
Jack was only here for a short trip. He would return to Halloweentown late that night, if all went to plan. Once he’d heard about the Library on the Isle of the Beast, he just couldn’t get it out of his skull. Now he was here, and it was more than he’d ever dreamed. Jack turned in a slow circle, taking it in again.
“Why, I should open up my own library for the citizens of Halloween Town, just like this one!”
It seemed obvious now. Why hadn’t he thought of it before?
Things were a lot different, now that Adam was ruling a kingdom instead of trapped as a Beast. For one thing, he had to remember how on earth he was supposed to react to potentially complex situations, as opposed to simply being able to ROAR his way out of them. He had to actually consider the repercussions of his actions, something that was taking some time to get used to.
He'd asked his old tutors to give him a few lessons again, to help him get back into figuring out this whole.....ruling business. It certainly wasn't easy; it was time consuming and frustrating, and sometimes, he ended up yelling at the people who were only trying to help him. But he was doing his best to keep himself under control, to become a good ruler. Because he certainly hadn't been before he'd been changed into a Beast. That was part of the whole reason for his transformation, after all.
And he was getting plenty of practice, what with all the visitors the Castle was receiving, these days. Belle had opened the library to anyone who wanted to learn, and there had been a fairly steady stream of people in and out since then. Generally, they were only allowed to and from the library, but people did get lost. He'd found himself escorting more than one person back to the library.
Of course, they tended to feed some of the travelers, if they were there late enough, and they carefully housed some of them. He didn't want to just open the castle to anyone; he was still too cautious for that. But he was much more willing to allow strangers into the Castle than he had been when Maurice had wandered in that winter's night.
Today, though, today, he didn't particularly want to deal with all the strangers. He was heading to the West Wing, for a bit of peace and quiet, when he saw everyone rushing out of the library. A little frown slipped onto his face at that; at this time of day, that was quite unusual.
Adam made his way into the library, to see what was going on; something had to have happened. When he saw the figure in the library, he stopped short, taking a moment to blink, to fully understand what he was seeing. It appeared that there was.....a skeleton in his library, which seemed to be the reason that the others had fled.
"Are you finding what you're looking for?" Adam asked. The .... other was a guest in his castle, after all, and if there was one thing he'd learned from his ordeal, it was not to judge by appearances.

Jack loved books. He was very curious by nature and once he latched onto a subject he found interesting he would obsess over it for days and days. There was so much knowledge in this room he felt dizzy with it.
His empty sockets widened as his dark gaze lit upon one book in particular. He pulled it from its place with reverent care and held it gently in his boney hands as he opened the cover and began to slowly turn the pages.
“Are you finding what you’re looking for?”
Jack might not have realized he was being addressed at all because he was so interested in the book in his hands. However, because the room had cleared out, Adam’s voice echoed in such a way that the skeleton noted it and lifted his head. Blinking, Jack turned his head left and right, looking for the other people who had been there before. With a frown of dismay, he realized they were gone.
“Oh…” Focusing on the man before him, Jack’s brow lifted with concern. “Is it already time to go?” Perhaps the castle library was only open for a few hours every day and he had come at the wrong time. He felt a stirring of regret deep in his bones. He’d traveled very far to be here— to leave so soon would be very disappointing.
Jack closed the book in his hands and turned to face Adam fully. “Might I speak with the prince and princess before I go? I want to introduce myself.”
