It had been a little while since Macbeth mac Findlaech and David Xanatos had met, in any sense of the word, really. Both of them had quite substantial fortunes, though Xanatos' was probably a bit more. He didn't have the historical artifacts that Macbeth did, though, amassed over his long life.
Nor did he have quite the same level of historical knowledge. Oh, true, Xanatos had his own areas of expertise, but Macbeth had been High King of Scotland. He was willing to bet that he could get the best of Xanatos, should he want to do so.
Which was why it was a good thing, for both of them, that he didn't want to get the best of David Xanatos.
No, he was in the Eyrie Building right now to pay a visit to the man who was currently hosting the Gargoyles.
Using his alias of Lennox MacDuff, he'd been publicly supporting the Gargoyles, telling the people that they simply wanted to exist in harmony with humanity, and that they wouldn't harm humans.
Still, groups of Quarrymen were popping up all over the city.
Perhaps he and Xanatos together could do something to put a stop to the rogue Gargoyle hunters. It appeared that his words alone weren't doing much to curb the enthusiasm for bloodlust. Hopefully, the two of them could get through to people.
((OOC: I was originally just kind of writing a "catching up" thread, but I had this idea instead. XD Feel free to bring sparring into it; Macbeth is ridiculously spry for an old man. ^^ Also, let me know if you'd like anything to be changed! P.S., the title is awful, and for that, I apologize.))

"God save us from frivolous lawsuits."
Xanatos wasn't in the best mood recently. In an attempt to diversify Pack Media Studios after a few years of stagnation (particularly considering the main cash cows were more useful as mercenaries than TV action stars) David had started looking around for new shows to produce. The initial results were very interesting, consisting of documentaries on the new isles, realms and kingdoms and various entertainers from around the glove. But then came the people who couldn't take no for an answer.
On the surface it looked like a low budget debate show, talking heads, local politicians and pundits, but Xanatos didn't get where he was by being careless so a background check was carried out on the people behind said show. Of course they turned out to be part of the political wing of the Quarrymen and intended to use the airtime for fearmongering and hate speech so the idea was rejected. Then the Quarrymen responed by trying to sue Xanatos Enterprises claiming that he was infringing on their civil rights and free speech. Ideally it would be dismissed quickly but every court date ended up with them bringing protesters, chanting slogans and the judge would tell everyone to go home and organise a new date to try again. Now David was left sitting in his office lamenting how much he was actually getting irritated by the situation. Even the 'king of all I survey' view of Manhattan wasn't helping. Then came a beeping from the security monitor caught his attention. Turning around in his chair the billionare caught a face he hadn't seen in some time. Getting up and pressing a button to open the office doors Xanatos walked out to meet his friend halfway.
"Macbeth. Or is it MacDuff now? It's good to see you again. What brings you back to the top of the world?"
Back in the days of supervillainry Macbeth had been one of Davids on and off again allies after Demona went out on her own. Great for the jobs that required more finesse the Pack were used too. Plus he was experienced enough with magic, history and mythology to respect the dangers involved with the more risky business ventures.

"It's good to see you, too, Xanatos. Or would you prefer David? And Macbeth is fine," the man said with a grim smile. "It is my true name, after all, though theatres tend to associate it with a curse," he added, almost absently.
He couldn't get side-tracked by thoughts of Shakespeare's play, amusing though it had been. Macbeth had come here for a reason, and he needed to make sure that that mission was accomplished. Then he could dwell on Shakespeare's inaccuracies and have a good laugh about his old friend's mistakes.
Xanatos was certainly right about his office being "the top of the world." There weren't any buildings in Manhattan taller than the Eyrie skyscraper, with Castle Wyvern perched on top.
That particular castle hadn't been his home, but he had lived in one quite similar; it brought back so many old memories that he wasn't sure whether he wanted to avoid it or to spend more time in it.
"I'm afraid I have some bad news," he started, rubbing his chin. "I've been trying to do damage control, due to the Quarrymen, but new factions keep popping up."
Taking a deep breath, Macbeth added, getting to his real point, "I may not be able to do much on my own, but I thought that we might be able to do something to help, together." Macbeth eyed the billionaire shrewdly, continuing, almost as an afterthought, "That is, of course, provided you're still interested in helping your ... guests."
((OOC: Feel free to let me know if this is going in a direction that doesn't work or if I need to change anything. <3 Also, Macbeth is a lawyer (among other things), so if you want to have Xanatos use that to his advantage (with the whole court thing), please feel free. ^^))

"David is good. I'd like to think we could talk in casual terms by now."
Xanatos listened to Macbeth as he described his own problems with the Quarrymen. He'd seen the televised appearances of 'Lennox' where he gave his full support of the clan, doing pretty well despite the fearmongering of his opponents. Annoyingly the Quarrymen still made their public showings in full regalia and if anyone objected to a hooded maniac with a hammer they risked being branded some kind of 'species traitor'.
"Black and White live in harmony to gang up on Stone?" David sighed. "Here I was hoping that the new kingdoms meant we could get past that kind of thing for a while. I'm having legal troubles with them myself. Somehow they think they're entitled for a televised soapbox with my company paying for it."
At least the mutual enemy brought everyone together in a way. Goliath and his clan had moved back into the castle, Elisa had easy access whenever she needed and the security teams had the building well protected during the day. Both David and Goliath could at least bond over their mutual parenthood and desire for a safer world for the children even if they were on tense terms. Still, it was somewhat annoying having to take them on in the courts in small amounts. Xanatos tapped a keypad under the edge of his desk and a wall panel moved aside revealing a small armory of hi tech weapons. David looked through it, running his fingers over the spare Mark 1 Coyote helmet.
"Our mutual friends have been taking on the Quarrymen in the streets in their nightly patrols. I must admit I've been tempted to join in. Or is that the egomaniac in me talking?"

"In my experience, new populations means new problems," Macbeth pointed out. He'd lived through the rise and fall of many powerful men (and the occasional woman, as well, he was happy to say. Not that they'd fallen, but that they'd been powerful in the first place), and it almost always started the same way.
Apparently, though, these Quarrymen were smart enough to at least attempt to tie up any major allies the Gargoyles might have in red tape; they were keeping Xanatos in court instead of thinking about ways to counteract their charged hammers.
"There might be a way around the courts," Macbeth mused out loud. One of the many degrees he'd obtained over the years had been in law, and perhaps they could turn this whole thing to their advantage. "They want a show where they can spread fear and hate among the people. And they're now suing you to get it. Unfortunately, they may win the case simply by bringing up the right to 'freedom of speech.'"
Rubbing a hand on his chin, Macbeth thought for a moment longer, then decided to reveal the idea he'd just had. Maybe Xanatos would reject it outright, or he could expand upon it, make it better, potentially.
"They want their own show, which would obviously not be at all good news for our mutual friends. But, you could compromise."
Before Xanatos could say anything, to protest or anything else, Macbeth continued, "In this case, a compromise would consist of a host of your choosing, a host who would be willing to have the Quarrymen on the show, yes, but also an advocate for our friends, perhaps even one of them, from time to time."
Xanatos would be able to control who went on the show, and, if he had people on the show who could systematically argue with the Quarrymen, pointing out how simply wrong each of their ideas happened to be, the show could even do some good while keeping the Quarrymen out of David's hair and courtrooms.
A smirk slipped onto Macbeth's face at the idea of helping the Gargoyles with actually fighting the Quarrymen.
"I would also have no objections to that," he agreed, pulling the mask of the Hunter onto his face. It had been used for years to hunt the Gargoyles. Maybe it was time for a change.

"You know I never thought of that. You want to run the studio for a while? I know we'll get some quality viewing for the masses that way."
It made sense. The Quarrymen were hoping to delay the case from seeing a courtroom on the chance they'd lose and their best bet was for David to give up and settle. With Macbeths plan he could take creative control and manage the output of the program. The concept of putting a former king who had a hand in bringing down other tyrants over the centuries on camera to outspeak them was also an amusing thought. Xanatos hit the speed dial on his phone to get to Owen's answering machine.
"Owen. Regarding the case, offer a settlement and have legal draw up a contract with lots of legalese and small print. We'll give them their soapbox but we're going to rattle it whenever we feel like, or put someone next to them with a bigger box."
Suprisingly Macbeth agreed to the idea of going onto the streets and knocking together some heads. Or maybe not suprising, he had enough enemies over the years to know when he needed to ride out and, as previously mentioned, knock some heads. Xanatos got the hint when he pulled out the Hunter mask and threw his suit jacket over the desk before donning the Coyote MK1 suit.
"The Hunter and the Coyote. Maybe they'll keep in their holes when they get a hostile response from two notorious criminals. I'd love to have a fly on the wall at the police dispatch tonight. I've got an elevator that'll take us to a tunnel under street level, get us out of the building quietly."
While Xanatos did have a minor prison stay to his name the Coyote didn't have any real face to his name, just a reputation as the leader of the Pack mercenary group. Thankfully only the closer friends and enemies of Xanatos had seen under the golden canine mask. As he finished activating his armour and checking the weapons he offered Macbeth his choice of weapons from the armory.
"Still using the electric pistol? We've updated the design, longer battery life and extra firing options."

Macbeth couldn't help but laugh at Xanatos' idea that he run the studio. But when he realized that the billionaire wasn't joking, he sobered. It was an idea....; he could continue on in his Lennox MacDuff alias, and it was possible he could do, at the very least, damage control, and at the best, manage to change a few minds.
"Why not? And then, the Quarrymen won't be using the funds they would have gotten from any other settlement for their ill conceived purposes." This was, so far, the best way to control the Quarrymen. They hadn't been able to eliminate them yet, but this way, they could monitor the message that they were trying to get to the people.
The former High King of Scotland laughed at the mention of the police station.
"We can do one better. I believe that a certain Detective Maza is on duty tonight; with any luck, she'll even show up on the scene." Which ... wouldn't really be lucky. Well, unless either of them was apprehended. Then they might have a chance.
....at least, he might. The detective was not fond of Xanatos and would probably do her best to take him down.
Upon the offer of the armory, Macbeth considered the weapons. They were all quite high-tech, which didn't bother him, but he still carried his sword, sometimes. Tonight was one of those nights. He took a few electric pistols, as Xanatos called them, just in case.
"Aye," he responded, strapping them to his sides. "And my sword, on occasion."
It appeared that they were both ready to strike fear into the hearts of the Quarrymen. Quite frankly, Macbeth was looking forward to this. It had been a while since he'd done anything similar, and he needed to make sure he stayed in shape.

"Food for thought old friend. I understand you might want to take in a bit of the new world before getting a desk job. I hear the old country is a little more to your liking these days."
Hitting another set of buttons under the desk closed the armory and opened the elevator behind another wall panel. David held out a hand letting Macbeth embark first before stepping on himself, flipping the visor up on his helmet while they still had privacy.
"Funny story on the Detective. She met one of the princesses on a trip to Paris. They're dead ringers for each other. For a while I was wondering if they were related after I saw the resemblance."
The elevator began the descent down the Eyrie building to the underground levels. A slow trip however considering the height of the building. David stood in silence during the trip, apart from a few impatient sighs.
"Sorry this is taking so long. I considered getting a fire pole installed to make it a bit more interesting, but the tests on a safe landing? The simulations weren't pretty."
Eventually the elevator reached the destination. A dimly lit tunnel under the building leading a few blocks away. Xanatos flipped down his visor before moving on. In the interest of having an effective battle plan the CEO deferred to the experienced gentleman.
"So any ideas where we should start? I hear the Quarrymen have a few buildings around the city."

Macbeth laughed, shaking his head at the idea that he "needed to take in the new world." He'd been around for dozens of "new worlds;" the only thing that changed much was the technology, and he'd adapted to that long ago.
"I've had many 'desk jobs,' as you refer to them," the former King said, raising an eyebrow. "But that never stopped me from enjoying the world around me, wherever I happened to be at the time."
And that wasn't about to change. Macbeth might be ... old, but he kept himself in shape. He had to, with that bond he had to Demona. The former King couldn't afford to become complacent, even if he might want to, occasionally.
No, this excursion with Xanatos was just the sort of thing he needed. And he would accept the position he'd been offered; it could end up being quite interesting. Plus, it would give him some time to prepare arguments against the Quarrymen that he could support with facts and figures, something they generally didn't have when they spouted their vitriol.
At the CEO's mention of a fire pole, Macbeth laughed again.
"No, I imagine any landing from a fire pole starting at that height would be ... messy, to say the least."He could survive something like that, but it wouldn't be pleasant.
Once they reached the bottom and Xanatos asked what he thought, Macbeth paused to consider for a moment.
"I know of a building nearby," he said, mentally calculating the distance between here and there. "And if we manage to surprise them, their hammers won't be an issue."
Post by David Xanatos on Mar 14, 2014 21:23:44 GMT -5
"Surprise is good. Though I suspect you mean more surprise than just showing up ready to start a fight."
Xanatos followed MacBeths lead since he seemed to know where the prime targets were. The emergency tunnel led to several points around the city with various exits, all labelled on charts at every junction for ease of use. The whole system was designed to evacuate the Eyrie building in a serious emergency and get the occupants as far away as needed. Given the building had faced everything from corporate saboteurs to angry gods it was just common sense.
"I don't suppose you ever followed the career of a man named Bruce Lee. Actor, amazing fighter. A couple of decades back he starred in a tv series called the Green Hornet. It was a man who decided to clean up his city by creating a villain, the hornet, so intimidating that no criminal would want to set up an operation and risk edging in on what they thought was his turf. Just thinking of us, the Coyote and the Hunter, two infamous villains looking to clear out their city."
David chuckled under his helmet. It was just conversation to fill the travel time, but an amusing parallel nonetheless.
Eventually the two exited the tunnel, coming out inside what, on the surface, looked like an abandoned building. From the boarded up windows they could make out a warehouse across the street, people going in and out while pulling blue hoods over their heads. Could be anything from a rally, a recruitment centre or an armory. It was disturbing how casual they were out of their outfits. They'd have work, families, then spend their nights scheming against anyone they thought wasn't supporting them enough. The Coyote eyes lit up as Xanatos scanned the building for interesting points.

Macbeth raised an eyebrow at Xanatos' question about Bruce Lee.
"Know of him?" he laughed, "I trained him, for a time." Yes, Macbeth had gotten around in his day. He had actually been friends with Shakespeare, for instance. The play his friend had written about him was entertaining, that much was certain. But there wasn't really that much historical fact to it.
He'd attended the opening performance anyway, though he'd had to keep from laughing at seemingly inappropriate times.
The CEO's suggestion that they were going to "clear out the city" was a bit grandiose, but it was a pleasant thought. But there would always be criminals; it was a truth any large gathering of humans in one place had to face, especially in a city.
But right now, they could do some good by subduing the Quarrymen for a time, hopefully. It was worth a shot, at least. Plus, whatever damage they did would put some of them out of commission for a time.
Macbeth turned to Xanatos with a smirk.
"We go in, guns blazing," he suggested, tone pleasant enough, though he wasn't joking. The Gargoyles had done nothing to these Quarrymen, and if there was one thing Macbeth couldn't stand, it was unwarranted prejudice.
Post by David Xanatos on Mar 26, 2014 15:57:49 GMT -5
"You never fail to astonish me old friend."
It seemed Macbeth always had a good story behind anything between his time and the modern day. Although it was to be expected that he shaped history a little more directly than anyone in the books. What was the point of immortality if you just languished in solitude forever. Xanatos took a mental note to try it when he achieved eternal life, maybe shape a few royals, pass his knowledge around, that kind of thing.
So a full frontal attack was the aim. Probably for the best, considering Davids usual method of weeks, months or years of planning ahead it would be fun to wing it. Hitting a few buttons on the underside of his gauntlet set the armour to full combat mode. Swiping with one arm the Coyote tore through the boarded up doorway in front of him and ran towards the Quarrymen building.
"Hey." The guard was shocked at the appearance of his attacker, grabbing the hammer he'd left at his feet. "Stop!"
Xanatos stopped running, but didn't cease his attack as he raised his arm and fired a sustained particle beam at the Quarrymans weapon. The hammer glowed red up until the internal generator cooked off and sparked, stunning the wielder. Next the billionaire closed the distance and picked up the man by his collar. He tore the hood off with his free hand, staring down the cowering opponent with glowing red eyes.
"Why is it that the people shouting about human supremacy are the worst examples of it?" He sighed before hurling the man at the door.
The door and frame splintered, the Quarrymen inside looking up from their activities. Some were setting up a podium, others were at a printing press producing slanderous literature, some sorting weapons while the rest were ambling about discussing whatever it was bigots did at these meetings. For now they all stared at the golden, canine machine that had just burst in. Xanatos scanned around them, putting on his best villain voice with the helmets vocal modulator.
"Quarrymen. I am Coyote. For intruding on Pack territory with your little clubhouse there will be consequences." He pointed a pair of wrist mounted beam weapons. "Who wants to be first?"

Apparently, Xanatos had approved of Macbeth's suggestion of simply charging right in. And if he didn't, he had a funny way of showing his disapproval. Either way, when Xanatos' Coyote suit ran towards the building and "opened" an entrance for them, Macbeth followed, electric pistol in his left hand, drawn sword in his right.
Hopefully, he would manage to surprise the Quarrymen before they had a chance to charge their hammers; his sword would cut right through them. But if they'd charged them, then it would turn into a conductor for the electricity flowing through the weapons.
That was why he had an electric pistol drawn, as well. If there was one thing Macbeth had learned over his many years, it was how to hit his targets. He was a fantastic shot and he couldn't afford to miss.
"We didn't mean to intrude on the Pack's territory!" one of the Quarrymen shouted, upon hearing Xanatos' words. "If we knew where they were, we'd want to recruit them! Please, don't hurt us," this last was directed at Macbeth, who simply laughed.
"I'm in no way affiliated with the Pack," he said, a touch of scorn in his voice. "I'm only here to teach you bigots a lesson."
A member of the group who had been working with the literature they were sure to try to foist off on an unsuspecting public picked up a hammer.
Macbeth saw the movement and rushed across the room, slicing the hammer in two before the Quarryman could charge it with electricity.
The man gaped at Macbeth, as though it was the first time he'd seen a sword used in battle before. It very likely was the first time, too. But Macbeth was an expert in swordsmanship; he wasn't about to lose an edge he'd honed over the centuries to spare the Quarryman's sensibilities.
"I'd advise you to pack up your equipment and leave. And don't simply set up shop somewhere else, or we'll find you there, too." He didn't take kindly to bigots, and the Quarrymen were some of the worst he'd come across, in his time.
Post by David Xanatos on May 20, 2014 12:47:36 GMT -5
"Recruitment? Really?" Xanatos scoffed under his helmet. "Did I miss the part where I went down in the pecking order?"
David hadn't really partaken in proper villainry for quite some time, aside from a few business actions that would be frowned upon in the white collar area, but it was truly insulting that the Quarrymen considered the Coyote and the Hunter as potential recruits. Well, it would be insulting if it came from people brave enough to show their faces when they spoke their minds rather than hiding behind anonymity and intimidation tactics. He still considered a suitable response as Macbeth disarmed his attacker.
"Let me help lighten your load."
The wrist mounted beam weapons were fired at two targets. The first was a rack of firearms, presumably for more subtle actions than hammers, while the second was a table full of pamphlets and other papers boasting of the 'righteousness' of the Quarryman organisation and the 'evils' of the Gargoyle clans. After a short exposure to a superheated beam they became a pool of molten slag and a pile of kindling. A trio of the thugs didn't take kindly to the loss and let their anger override self preservation.
"It's just two guys. They can't stop all of us."
As hammers were charged and their wielders crossed the floor, Xanatos gave them some attention with his visors scanning equipment. If he'd sent the android Coyote it could easily pounce across the room and perform inhuman acts of dexterity and agility. For now David just relied on his targeting software pointing out the predicted path of their swings and the radius of the electric fields. After the math was done, mixed martial arts training took over.
The first swung overhead, David simply stepped backwards and let his weapon smash the floor before striking him in the chest with an open palm. The second thrust his weapon like a spear, his weight easily turned against him with a judo style toss. The third tried to swing low at Davids legs, countered by the golden armoured CEO leaping over his weapon and drop kicking him across the floor into a stack of crates. A quick flip after hitting the ground and Xanatos was back upright, ready for the next overconfident opponent.
"As much as I'd like to do this all night, I'd like to hit a few more of your rat holes. So lets not waste my time."

Though Macbeth was busy with his own members of the Quarryman's little band, he saw and heard Xanatos' reactions to the members of this little .... party. For someone who'd only had one lifetime to work on his fighting skills, the CEO had some impressive abilities. Macbeth was going to have to see about offering to hone those skills even more; in this potentially perilous day, one could never be too careful. And now that David Xanatos was a father, Macbeth knew that he could use all the training he could get.
He could ponder that later, though; right now, he had Quarrymen to deal with.
Macbeth laughed outright at the idea that he and Xanatos couldn't take all of the Quarrymen that were in this little hideaway.
"I'd like to test that theory," he said, kicking a woman's legs out from under her even as his sword was flying, slicing more of their precious hammers in two as he went. He'd dealt with much worse odds than this, before, and Xanatos was in quite high-tech gear; there was almost no way they could lose to this .... group of ruffians.
One of the more enterprising members of the group pulled a handgun from inside her jacket and fired at Macbeth before he could manage to knock the weapon out of her hands.
Her aim wasn't terrible and the bullet hit the former King in the left shoulder, grazing his collarbone.
He grunted with the pain of the wound, sheathed his sword, and used one of their own electric hammers like a tazer on the woman, knocking her unconscious. Once she'd been dealt with, he pulled out one of his electric pistols instead of his sword. He didn't need two hands to wield his favorite weapon, but it was quite heavy, and he didn't need to deal with any extra strain right now.
"Anyone else like to try their luck on the Hunter?" he demanded of the room at large, holding himself tall and proud, ignoring his injury for the moment.
