"I love you too dear." David replied as he parried another sword with his own before punching out his current opponent. "Should we tell the crew to help out the pirates so you can have more of a challenge?"
The challenge came as a set of bone like spikes fired past Xanatos, tearing the sleeve of his coat. He turned to the source of the attack, seeing Kirrg the engineer walking across the deck carrying a transparent cube with a pink blob like creature floating around inside. The cube had two handles on the side with trigger like buttons on them and a sliding panel facing outwards that opened when they were pressed. The crab like engineer scuttled closer.
"I didn't want to show my hand this fast Mister Xanatos. But you and the missus forced the issue."
He pressed the triggers again, opening the front of the cube as the blob shifted into another form, a red frog like creature this time. It puffed up before croaking out a jet of fire at David, who ducked and rolled to the side in response. The creature inside the box was a Protean, a shapeshifting creature that could assume many different forms, with this one apparently trained to mimic dangerous animals before being turned loose on a target.
"He's a fast one. Try a shrieking eel."
The Protean shifted again, becoming a squirming eel with a mouth full of teeth. It let out a piercing cry that rippled the air in a path towards David, forcing him back as he covered his ears. He earned a brief respite as the Protean stopped for breath. At least the sound was focused in a straight path by the cube, probably as a safety feature. The pirates not fighting with Fox stood behind the engineer to stay out of the line of fire, enjoying seeing one of the couple that had given them trouble on the ropes for once.
"Now one of those would be a nice souvenir for this trip."
"Too bad you won't live long enough to get one of your own." Kirrg taunted before letting his pet shriek again.

The challenge at hand wasn't quite as easy as Fox made it out to be, but it was nearly so. These pirates were brutes and thugs. Fox was used to the sort of mentality that they appeared to share, having dealt with a band of similarly tactless, narrow-minded fools in the form of the Pack. Without Fox's guidance over their actions - and that was filled with constant supervision to ensure that none of them did anything moronic - they would have never been a threat. Just noise and chaotic distraction; as they were now, without their former leader.
Some of the pirates were more subtle than others in their attempts to best Fox, but even those were unimpressive. She was not content with the inability and incompetence of her foes. No, Fox craved a challenge almost desperately. That was one of the reasons she loved David so irrevocably; whether the medium be mental or physical, he presented a wonderful challenge for her. Fox and David sparred as regularly as they played chess, each using the other as a whetting stone to hone their minds and bodies. These slobs, who barreled across the deck, thinking that size, strength or number could prevail? They were a warm up.
One fellow with a cybernetic implant from the elbow down on one of his arms raised his palm to face her. Synthetic skin peeled away on metallic panels to reveal a seed of gathered energy between his fingers. Fox narrowed her gaze at him critically, understanding full well what would come next. How helpful that one of the larger pirates - one that she had been distantly contemplating how to defeat, due to his thick, rhino-like hide - came lumbering up behind her in that moment. Fox bent her back enough to move her head an inch or so, and let the concentrated blast of energy sizzle by her nose and connect with the larger fellow. He went down at once.
Fox closed the distance while the cyborg despairingly tried to gather enough energy to loose another bolt. She grabbed his mechanical arm at the wrist and, with one decisive twist, broke it at the elbow, where she would have dislocated or shattered the anatomy otherwise. That was when a belch of fire rose in the air above the higher deck, drawing Fox's attention. Her brow furrowed as she parried an offending blade. She could not see David. He had stopped bantering, as well. Neither of which were good signs. Next came the high-pitched wail. While not within the actual blast radius of the attack, Fox could still hear it well enough to make her wince.
She knew that she had to get to David. Barging onto the scene the standard way would be walking knowingly into danger, though. Fox used the pommel of her blade to bash a pirate's temples and began to sprint. She used barrels as stepping stones, then finally kicked off of the main mast. Her free hand grabbed a rope while the other shore it from its place, allowing her to swing wide over the side of the ship, toward her husband. Fox saw the man, with his box, standing against David as she swung, and her mind surged with possibilities of how she should enter most tactically.
Kirrg was an aware sort, though. Fox did not count on such awareness to his surroundings; whether natural, or augmented through some device integrated into his body. Fox was at her furthest from the ship itself when Kirrg whirled around and pulled both triggers on the vessel he carried. Fox saw a blob of mass shift within. It became a miniature sun that let a similarly shrunken solar flare lash out like a whip from its shimmering surface. The flare passed through the rope above Fox, cutting it cleanly, and she fell into the starry expanse.

Despite his current disadvantage, David was optimistic about his chances against Kirrg. For one thing, the traitorous engineer, despite his rank and larger size, was similar in species to several of the other crab or insect like pirates that had already been disabled through tested methods. Secondly he seemed reliant on his shapeshifting pet in a fight, effective though it was. Finally, all his focus was on Xanatos, with his cohorts less than equipped to handle Fox or Alexander. A series of thuds, yells and misfire energy weapons from lower down suggested that she was making good progress. Kirrg stepped forwards still holding his weapon in front while using one of his spindly legs to kick David's sword aside, still having five others to stand on.
"Yer female has a bit of tiger in her Xanatos."
"Among other desirable attributes." David tried to keep his hand hidden while he went for the beam pistol in his coat. "and this is her not even trying."
As Fox came swinging in like a swashbuckling movie star, Kirrg whirled around and let his pet cut the rope with a solar blast, sending her over the side. In response David drew his weapon and fired, only for the pirate, displaying the same kind of situational awareness, curled his shell around himself and scuttled along the deck before climbing the mast. As he gained the high ground he turned his pet loose again in the form of a needle nosed blue slug that fired a freezing liquid. The liquid formed a circle of ice around David, who concentrated his fire on the forming crystals so he wouldn't get penned in. The shapeshifter hadn't chosen well this time, the heat of Xanatos attacks easily countered the frost, with the heated puddles leaving less suitable area for more of the ice to form. Still, Kirrg kept up with it.
"A cold grave for a cold heart like yerself. Most men would at least shed a tear for their other half."
David went on the offensive and fired up at the mast, forcing Kirrg to climb up and around to safety. While he was gaining safety from the extra height the pirate was losing accuracy with his own weapon, his rampant shooting while moving the unwieldy box scaring off several of his own men. Indeed it was a grim response to seeing his wife fall overboard, most on the ship were chalking it up to anger or grief. Xanatos just didn't see the need to fret unless he was given proper reason to worry about her.
"Most couples aren't on the same wavelength as Fox and I." David smirked back. "Give it a few seconds and you'll see what I mean."

Fox was fairly upset that she'd been thrown from the side of a ship and into open space. Not for any reason that most would be, either. The fact that she'd been so easily sent overboard, like so much of the filth that she and David had been fighting, was grating. Fox wouldn't say that her pride was truly and rightfully stung, but it was at least a little chafed. The woman's expression on the way down wasn't one of fear or astonishment, it was annoyance.
Once out of sight of those on deck, Fox nimbly turned in the air, facing downward and playing out her limbs to slow her descent. She knew roughly where the artificial atmosphere ended around the ship, but she had no worries of passing its boundaries by. As if by predestined design, one of the manta ray-esque flying creatures that the assailing pirates were using as modes of transportation swept beneath Fox. Laden with two passengers, no less.
The woman's thin lips twisted in a cruel grin. Someone to immediately take her frustrations out? Well, that was just splendid.
Fox flipped in the air, turning so that she was upright, booted feet pointed downwards. She landed on the swooping beast by her heels connecting with one of its cargo. That powerful kick knocked the pirate cleanly off and into the openness around them. The manta ray began a sharp ascension, unawares of the tussle happening on its back as Fox turned toward the remaining creature. This pirate she could not take by surprise, like the first. They struggled momentarily, and when their flying steed had made it over the dock again, Fox discarded her unwanted company, so that his body fell and hit the deck hard enough that he did not stir afterwards.
Unfortunately, she'd lost her sword during their exchange. Fox looked down in her hands, and at the futuristic pistol that she had snatched from the pirate in recompense. The manta ray veered at her urging to curl in a wide encircling of the uppermost rigging. There, on the main mast squatted the pirate that had attacked her before. Apparently all of his energies were bent upon David, because he didn't notice his other opponent was airborne. Fox scowled. "Square's square," she muttered.
One shot knocked the shapeshifter and its prison from the pirate's hand. Then Fox was upon him. She dismounted the manta ray, landed on the one of the sail's arms, and closed the distance. He was aware of her, as was his uncanny tendency. Fox didn't care. She just had to get her hands on the right spots before he could react tactfully. The pirate was mad that his toy had been cast down to the decks below. He wanted her to get in close, so he could exact his vengeance.
Fox secured her handholds swiftly, ducking beneath and narrowly avoiding a swiping claw. With a grunt, she executed a Judo throw on the unsuspecting creature and sent him, too, hurtling toward the deck. Fox grabbed onto the rigging to balance herself and smirked slyly down at David. "You're up," she called to him.

As per David's expectations, Fox had recovered well and countered what would have been certain demise for anyone else. Not only that she had rearmed and gained an aerial advantage by stealing one of the pirate mounts, quickly adapting to the alien creature and controlling it better than the others were. Sure enough the other mantas were steering clear out of either respect or fear.
Krrg was quickly disarmed when Fox attacked him, leaving Xanatos the chance to grab his weapon before he was thrown to the deck. The mechanism was pretty simple, just point and click with one button for dangerous attacks and another for non lethal. David opted for the latter and fired at Krrg. The protean inside turned into a weird mix between a beetle and a pufferfish, turning a sickly green before spitting a large stream of sticky slime over the crab like pirate. Krrg struggled in a rage, but wasn't able to make much headway before the slime set and he was rooted to the deck. The other pirates stared agape, or at least the species who could express such a look in an obvious manner, as David turned the weapon on them.
"Warned you. Perfect wavelength. Now you all seem to be done with this misadvised attack against one of my holdings so I think an appropriate response is required. What do you think dear?"
While they were both equally devious in their own ways, any threats would sound more terrifying coming from Fox. Not that they'd follow through with anything too rash, just lock them up somewhere secure on the ship. The loyal crewmembers confiscated the pirate weapons and rounded them up as David found Alex, just finished returning the robot to his full size and leaving the pirate in a shocked daze. The child giggled as his father collected him under one arm, babbling at the protean in the box.
"What do you think? The new pet or this years big Christmas must have?"
Perhaps there were more of these creatures, this one was certainly useful. It could wait though, the billionaire strolled casually over to the mast awaiting his wife's descent.

Fox had to appreciate the poetic irony. Here the crab-like pirate captain had tried however many times to do David in with his alien in a box to no avail, and it took a single use from her husband to incapacitate him. She smiled cruelly, content at the sounds of struggle coming from beneath the hardened husk of slime. The redhead had a feeling of how David would carry on from that point, with the tables turned and the pirates at a loss with their leader defeated. Fox's eyes flicked to another foe-laden manta circling higher above the ship.
Keeping them in mind, she grabbed a rope and launched from her perch, swinging in a wide arc around the main mast. When David was partway through talking, she landed with unnervingly little noise at his side. Oh, she did so love when David threatened people. Fox's mind flicked to the manta above when he directed the victorious monologue onto her, no doubt expecting her to punctuate his point. She was happy to oblige.
Fox regarded the defeated crew evenly. She lifted the futuristic firearm in her hand without looking at where she aimed and fired it once. There was a far-off groan and in several second a smoking pirate landed with a thud at her feet. "Give me a reason," she told them with a wicked smirk. None of them did. Which was to be expected, but also kind of disappointing. The saboteurs were wrangled up by those loyal crew members and David retrieved Alexander. They met back up at the base of the mast.
Fox cupped Alexander's cheek with one hand, the infant smiling widely at his mother, and then looked down at the device David still held. "Oh, I think it's much too valuable to let the common billionaires have access to." Fox looked in guileful challenge at David. "You can never have too many aces up your sleeve. Isn't that right, Alexander?" she asked, and he drooled through his wide, toothless smile in answer. Fox smiled, showing a much softer side than the one that had combated pirates without flinching.
(OOC: I know you ended your post saying he was waiting for Fox's descent, but I didn't catch that until I'd already written her coming down partway through. D: I figured we can just leave it be - it's not a big deal. :3 If it bothers you overmuch you can edit the last sentence of your former post, but you by no means have to!)
