Fox crouched on the edge of a skyscraper's rooftop, looking through hi-tech binoculars at the imperious facade of the Eyrie Building. She blended seamlessly in with the silhouetted skyline of New York Town that night, clad in a sleeveless black catsuit. Her hair was pulled tight against her skull and wound in a single, rope-like braid. Armored boots and gauntlets paired with a sleek utility belt and a miniature pack that was slung over her back from which she'd produced the binoculars she currently used.
She scanned the castle-crowned building before her thoughtfully, lips perpetually stuck in a half-sneer. Fox ran through several different modes of vision while she did her final assessment. Her eyes fell on a row of windows further down, part of the more mundane base of the structure before its glitzy midsection and positively fantastical headpiece. There, a security guard could be glimpsed, lead by the beam of his flashlight, making his rounds.
From Fox's wrist, an automated beep sounded. Her half-sneer turned into a more total one. She lowered her binoculars, did a final consultation that she had everything in its place, and then began fiddling with her gauntlets with the deft ease with which a veteran assembled their war instruments. "I hope you're ready to take notes," Fox said over the communication link in one of her ears.

Most invaders didn't give a hint ahead of time that they were going to attack. This however was just one of the regular games between Fox and Xanatos. The security of the tower needed to be top of the line at all times and what better method than to improve on them than to ask the resident former mercenary to suit up and mount an attack?
If Fox won she'd lord it over David for a while, maybe even claim one of his relics or transfer one of the holdings to her name until he could buy it back. Of course he'd learn from the loss and improve security the next time around, then make up for his losses and them some.
It wasn't just for his own property of course. Goliath and his clan (though they likely wouldn't want to admit it) relied on the castle being a safe place to roost. Quarrymen, rogue Pack members, Hunters and sundry other rogues would love to break in and smash the gargoyles while they were vulnerable in the stone sleep. Not to mention the new villains from the other kingdoms that could attack at any time. and with Alex in the tower, well David and Fox would go to war with anyone who tried
David held his datapad, sitting at the desk in his main office. With a few simple commands he could monitor any security device in the building or take control manually. Fox was already taunting him from her position, giving him one last chance to drop out presumably.
"Never let it be said that I'm not one for self improvement."

"Or grudge holding," Fox added to her husband's sentence out of the corner of her mouth. "You're not going to hold it against me when I win, are you?" She sounded sincere enough - or as sincere as she could sound when her attention was obviously split as it was - but quite honestly? Fox would've been disappointed if, were she to successfully penetrate David's "impenetrable defenses," he didn't try to one up her.
With a last rotation of an attachment that Fox affixed to one of her gauntlets, her eyes rose again to the Eyrie Building. The security on the mid and upper sections was foolproof on the exterior. Fox knew this. And she also knew that the bottom levels of the mid section was heavily fortified, where it met the more natural base segment. Getting in at the bottom third of the building would be difficult, but if it was easy Fox wouldn't have wanted to play this game.
Fox brought the binoculars up one last time. The security guard she'd watched before now was looking around with the air of not wanting to get caught. Once he knew the coast was clear, he fiddled with his inner coat pocket and produced a carton of cigarettes. The guard glanced up and down the hall one last time and then nudged open the window he'd stopped at - something that in itself was against protocol - to suck out the smoke of his unsanctioned habit.
She had a narrow window, and that made her blood race. Fox stowed her binoculars in her pack and raised her arm. From Fox's gauntlet a grapple line launched, fastened to the antenna of the building she was crouched, and she took a running start toward the adjacent face of the building. Fox leaped into the open air, the grapple line pulled taught and she swung around the corner, toward the Eyrie Building's facade. Just as she planned, the guard was fiddling with his lighter, facing down the corridor.
Fox waited until she reached the prime place in her swing and then detached the grapple line from her gauntlet. Momentum cast her along and Fox gestured with her other gauntlet ahead of her. A small dart expelled from it and hit the guard's exposed neck. Fox tucked her body in neatly to enter the small point of the open window. She landed in a roll the even impact over her body and ended in a wide crouch just as the guard's unconscious body hit the floor.
"Nasty habit, smoking," Fox said, and smugness rolled off of her voice in waves.

"You know, sometimes it sounds like the idea that you might lose is impossible."
David had always been the kind of person to plan things out so that even if he failed there was still some victory for him. His prior attempts to trick the clan into working for him had led to the creation of an army of powerful robots, his manipulations of the Pack had given Fox a way out of prison and an easy separation from the team and even his power suit tests had regained him the Eye of Odin for a time. Titania seemed to be cut from a similar cloth given her manipulation of Oberon during his attempt to abduct young Alex, provoking Fox into activating her own abilities to protect her child had convinced Oberon to back down. Or maybe that was why Fox was usually so open with her intentions, rather than scheme like her mother she might prefer to lay her plans out openly just so that everyone knew that she was going to have her prize and they couldn't stop her.
That could wait though, for now a guard had slipped up and given Fox an opening. She was in the building and had knocked out the sentry with a dart in a well practised motion. David made a note to maybe transfer the guard to somewhere a little less vital if his habits were going to leave a hole in the security like that.
"Are the one liners for my benefit dearest? Hope you didn't use anything lethal."
Entry was only the first step of the game. The building had more than just a few guards in it. Try the most sophisticated sensor equipment and cameras picking up most kinds of anomaly, well equipped response units every few floors and a lot of robotics. For now David waited to see where his competition was heading before he committed to a plan.
"Of course there are no points for just getting in the window. Still time to turn yourself in."

David's slick comments murmured through the communication link in Fox's ear, but she was already moving. She only paused for a moment to see that the dart played its role properly and the guard was out for the count before she continued inward. Fox's thoughts went to the floor plans and schematics she'd been studying for that evening. Remembering the route she'd planned, as well as the contingencies set up in her mind at every juncture based on what might go wrong.
"Why, David, is that sentiment I hear? Could it be you're going soft, worried about a run-of-the-mill security guard?"
Fox stopped at a corner before entering the next passageway. Her ensemble and arsenal was invaluable in the game she now played with David. Fox doubted anything rivaled it in Rohandor, at least for the purpose it was designed for. Not just Xanatos Enterprises tech was incorporated in it (and some of those elements were just prototypical), but it was cobbled together from scraps of precisely selected, stolen from other companies including Cyberbiotics and even black market purchases.
David's security systems were superb, but particularly on this lower level they weren't prepared to deal with an intruder so well outfitted. Fox pressed a button on her utility belt meant to cause an inconspicuous interference with the nearest camera that would last 2 seconds precisely. That was enough time to step around the corner and loose - again from her gauntlet - a small pellet that affixed to the camera and, playing in with the nanotech in her suit, rendered her invisible to the camera feed.
Fox pressed another button, now that she was moving into corridors not meant for the security personnel's vigil, and which meant motion sensors would be live and waiting. The moment her contacts found theoretical tech that disguised the wearer from such sensors, Fox had used much of the fortune she'd won in her last game with Halcyon to secure it for herself. She knew it would come in handy.
"Don't be jealous, dear. Maybe, if you win, I'll let you have a look at this little suit of mine."

"I used to give them hazard pay when there was a regular chance of a Gargoyle breaking in trying to thwart me. It'd be a little cruel of me not to be a supportive employer."
Though it was impossible to tell with the tech she was using to disguise her movements, Fox was still on the same floor. This gave David some time to prepare, starting with the elevator. The elevator cars themselves were unlikely to be part of her route, nor the stairwells, so the shafts needed the most protection. With a swipe on his control pad a series of directed radar emitters were activated, moving in random patterns to cover as much of an area as possible while staying unpredictable. The elevators would function normally but any unusual objects would attract extra attention until they were identified.
On a lark Coyote was also given a warm up call, specifically the muscular yet easily replaceable 2.0 unit, on one of the upper floors. For now he was on sentry mode in the armoury awaiting intruders but could be sent elsewhere if Fox made her presence known by some slip up.
"I'll hold you to that beloved. Though do you ever worry about using company resources in these games? Perhaps one of my subsidiaries or lesser used fronts had enough influence to slightly sabotage one of your tools? Just a thought."
A terrible bluff of course, but it served to put the slightest bit of doubt in an opponent and their strategies. Either that or give them something to think about and overlook something else, maybe extra overlooking if Fox wanted to prepare a really good retort.

Fox prowled along the hallway, mind calculating and recalculating while her path came nearer and nearer to the vestibule that housed the elevator shafts that drove up the skyscraper's center. Theoretically the idea behind this little game was to see if the Eyrie Building's defenses by themselves were truly flawless. Fox just knew, though, that David wouldn't be able to help himself but to nudge and tweak a piece here and there to bolster his chances.
That was fine, Fox thought. Perfectly within the bounds and rules ironed out between them for the evening's events. Besides, she had a few things up her sleeve to manage.
The redhead slunk along the edge of the hallway she was in. Inwardly her thoughts were fixed on a timer counting down in her head. Fox's fingers worked, slapping a device down where it adhered to the wall chosen for the occasion. She worked off edges of a panel deftly, mental countdown still ticking. David jested about the reliability of her black ops gadgetry, hinting that suppliers may have slipped in something to sabotage her when she used them.
"They wouldn't dare," Fox said pleasantly. The shadows of the sentence held dark promise, though. And it was true. But David's comment hadn't been serious to begin with. Just another try to distract and try to sow seeds of discord in her confidence. "Do you know what time of the week it is?" she asked, unable to keep a smile off of her lips while the countdown continued in her thoughts and her hands flew.
"It's Friday night," Fox reminded her husband. With one last twist of her wrist, she disconnected the panel from where it lay hidden in the wall and set it down, the device from before used to blanket added movement not encompassed in the disguise her suit offered. "Pizza night." Fox's gauntlet chirped, a physical declaration of the clock that had just hit "zero" in her head.
The smaller, more compact service shaft she'd just unearthed that ran in its own tube beside the proper lifts, carried a sound from below. Fox lifted herself, throwing her legs through the unearthed access port and into the shaft, where she wedged her body to keep from falling. Really it was so dour of David not to allow the pizza delivery man to ascend personally into the top of the Eyrie Building to deliver the Clan's weekly feast. He instead had to use the small elevator that Fox now dropped on top of. Too small to hold a person, but not to carry one.
(OOC: This is so very poorly conceived and is probably awful, for which I apologize!)

"I don't think we'll ever get an honest answer about which one of us inspires more loyalty or fear. Not while they think one of us is listening in or the other."
At times David wondered what would happen if he and Fox swapped holdings for a short period of time, if their different strategies would improve or act to the detriment of each others corporations. Of course it would have to remain a musing since any actual attempt would involve too many contingency plans to prevent one party taking everything that they'd spend both of their fortunes on writing up contracts.
"The service elevator? Good call. Which reminds me I'll have to check if accounting ever did find an insurance company that will cover delivery boys getting chased by Bronx."
There was a reason that they just sent the food up and got paid in the lobby. Bronx may have been a large friendly dog to anyone who came bearing food but at the same time he was the size of a small rhino and lived on a castle above the clouds. Even if he was just looking to say hello there was always the risk of someone plummeting to ground level if he spooked them enough.
"and on that note. What happens when you get to the top and Bronx is there to meet the pizzas? I don't think either of our companies have developed such a countermeasure."
ooc: Sorry, if you want we can PM and discuss plans if this isn't enough to work with.

Landing on the ascending lift was tricky, but Fox managed with minimal jolt to her joints. Grunting a little at the impact, she quickly set to work. From one armored gauntlet a laser hissed, illuminating the darkness with a button press. She pressed her lips together firmly, because this was one of the many tight spots on the schedule of her carefully planned infiltration.
"Our companies, no," she said in answer to David's newest quip. She carved a circle in the roof of the miniature lift just large enough to slip through with some tact. Fox peeled off the now-detached panel just when the elevator was slowing for its arrival. Placing the panel beside her, she reached through and pulled the stack of pizzas up next. The elevator came to a halt with a hiss and the door to it opened onto one of the common areas of Castle Wyvern.
"But Joe's Pizzeria has." Fox heard Bronx's approach but had already pulled a slice of pizza from one of the boxes. Aiming it with some difficulty, she threw the slice through the open panel out further into the room. There was a soft, playful growl as Bronx chased after it. Fox wriggled through the small elevator head-first. She paused long enough to eject a device from her gauntlet to affix to the present security camera that worked with her suit to mask her appearance.
Fox dropped into the room beyond while Bronx's back was still turned, devouring the thrown slice. She tucked the stack of pizzas back in their place for one of the Clan to come retrieve and nimbly escaped while Bronx was busy.
Post by David Xanatos on Oct 1, 2017 17:29:32 GMT -5
"Good plan, though any other intruder doing that would have gotten the Clan suspicious when they found Bronx already eating when the boxes are still closed. That's neither here nor there, but all the same I'm going to take notes about finding a nocturnal vet to take a look at our four legged friend and his eating habits. Alex is so fond of him after all."
In all likelihood Bronx could chew up and swallow parts of the building with no side effects, or even if he did get ill he could recover with stone sleep, but better to be safe than sorry. Back to the security drill, David checked over the minor glitch in the camera that should have been showing Fox getting out of the delivery elevator but just showed one of the clan picking up their dinner.
"Now, of course whichever one of your companies devised that technology would have to make a countermeasure. I hope we can agree on a fair price to upgrade my cameras with it, otherwise I'll have to engage in some corporate espionage and devise a counter software myself."
With a few swipes on his tablet Xanatos activated a few trump cards he'd left around the tower, some Steel Clan drones set to head for the elevator area then patrol outwards from there. A few upgrades over the years had made them a lot more efficient as sentries, plus the other model made from Cold Iron were extra handy if something magic tried to sneak in. Coyote was also a few floors down with his other bodies going through standard maintenance, so he could be thrown in to the ring should the need arise.
"Now be honest, were you tempted to seek outside contractors to get involved with this little bet of ours tonight? I shouldn't expect anyone you met on your recent travels to visit the tower tonight?"
