Tarzan had only heard of the Forever Stone recently and still didn't fully understand what it was, only that it contained a lot of villains including Clayton. Said villains where now free to roam the jungle and every other Isle and Kingdom, which might have made Tarzan hesitant to actually travel and leave his home undefended. However from talking with Edward he'd learned that protecting your home meant more than being able to outmuscle any problem. If he made more allies then together they'd be able to handle any villain. Too bad Jane, Terk and the others weren't around to meet him. Maybe later they could arrange to meet each others families at a better time.
As he finished his tea a small brown figure scurried across the camp, scaled his chair and sat on his shoulder chittering rapidly. One of the smaller monkeys looking for help. The animal was very excited and could barely get it's story out. Tarzan waited for a pause to reply asking for some clarity. Of course the conversation was pretty much gibberish to anyone else, just Tarzan and a monkey exchanging various eeks, ooks, oohs and aahs back and forth rapidly with some wild pointing. The monkey retreated afterwards and Tarzan leaped backwards off his chair, landing on all fours.
"Trouble. He's saying a rhino has gone mad. It'll hurt someone if I don't stop it."
Before rushing off Tarzan took a look at Edward. They seemed similar in their dedication to protecting their home and family. Plus Kings and Princes were usually tough in the books. Between the two of them they could sort this out in no time.
"Would you like to help? Follow me."
Remembering that Edward wasn't keen on travelling by treetop, Tarzan kept his movements at ground level, charging through the undergrowth towards the commotion in the distance. A wild bellowing from the angry animal kept the ape-man on track.
ooc: I'll change this if you want the thread to go another way. Just tell me if it doesn't work.
Well, this was quite the pleasant meeting between new allies! Edward hadn't expected to find capable allies so quickly, and he was quite pleased that he'd made a point of stopping off on this Isle. If he hadn't, he and Tarzan wouldn't have met and they wouldn't have formed this alliance.
But then, as they were finishing their tea, a small, strange-looking creature appeared, running up to Tarzan. Edward watched, open-mouthed, as the creature proceeded to chatter excitedly to Tarzan, who apparently understood everything that had been going on. He hadn't been joking when he said he'd been raised by apes! But knowing that and seeing what resulted from it were two completely separate things.
Before Edward had a chance to ask what was going on (because something clearly was, Tarzan had leapt off his chair in a show of almost impossible grace and strength. Edward stared once more, blinking as Tarzan spoke.
He realized that he was staring, and shook his head, finally registering the words his ally had said. There was a rampaging beast nearby and they were going to put a stop to it! Finally, something he could understand and even assist!
"Lead on, my friend!" Edward exclaimed, drawing his sword, expecting that he'd have to fight his way through the undergrowth. But instead, Tarzan ran along the ground, making sure that Edward could follow.
And follow the King did, trying not go get too left behind by his ridiculously athletic ally.
For a grounded person, Edward was at least eager to help keeping up impressively. Tarzan continued on in the direction of the commotion. Soon enough he could see the source of the trouble, one of the rhinos was currently slamming the side of his head into the a tree and snorting furiously. The ape man stalked forwards slowly trying to reason with the animal before turning to violence.
"<What's wrong? The animals are saying you're attacking everyone.>"
"<It hurts! My head hurts!>"
The rhino turned around towards Tarzan, grunting in pain and anger before charging. Tarzan scrambled backwards and scaled the nearest tree just before a horn was slammed into the trunk. While his opponent was trapped the Jungle King dropped back on top of him and tried to put him in a headlock, hoping to tire him out by temporarily cutting his air intake. As he got close enough he picked up a strange noise, which distracted him enough for the rhino to get free and toss him aside before charging off again. Tarzan's reflexes saved him as he grabbed onto a branch in mid air and dropped back to ground level, running back to Edward.
"It's not his fault. Something is stuck behind his ear. It's making a weird sound." Tarzan tried to imitate the noise as best as he could, making a high pitched whine. "It sounded like...eeeeeeeeeee. It's hurting him"
Most likely, if they could remove the offending object, the rhino could calm down and stop his rampage. The problem was stopping him long enough to get a good look at him. Tarzan was strong, but not enough to stop a rhino if it didn't want to be stopped. They'd have to play it through smarts, not strength.
"If I keep him busy can you get behind him?"
ooc: If you want to go with a different plan just say. Edward is the dragon slaying, giant beating, troll smacking archetype of course.
Edward followed Tarzan through the jungle, a path surprisingly clear as he followed the other man. He'd expected to have to use his sword much more than he actually had, which was a good thing. After all, swords weren't made for cutting through brush and debris, and he wasn't sure how the blade would react to such a change in its usual coating.
It wasn't long before they'd come upon a very strange looking animal. It had a single horn, right in the middle of its face, long, sharp, and deadly. Whatever the creature was, it was obviously Not Happy; it charged right at a tree and slammed its head into the trunk.
Tarzan went right up to the creature, before Edward could do or say anything. He just watched, open-mouthed as the other King appeared to have a conversation with the strange-looking beast. Well, if Edward had had any doubts about the veracity of Tarzan's story of growing up in the jungle, raised by apes, they would all be put to rest, now.
The jungle King tried a few tactics to apparently try to tire the animal out, all to no avail. When the creature charged once more, Tarzan dodged it, coming to land by Edward once more.
The King stared for a moment, not quite comprehending the fact that Tarzan had asked him a question. After a moment, he realized what had been asked of him and shook his head, composing himself.
"Of course!" he replied to Tarzan's question, proud smile on his face. "Er, what do you want me to do once I've gotten behind the creature?" From the tone of Tarzan's question, Edward had gathered that he didn't want him to slay the ... whatever it was. But if he wasn't to kill it, what was he to do with the thing?
Edward was as brave and willing to help as any Prince that Tarzan had read about, but he did want to know exactly what to look for which was a bit of a problem.
"I'm not sure what we're looking for. Only that it's stuck on his head and he can't get it off. I'll try and keep him looking at me for as long as possible, give you a chance for a proper look."
Tarzan resumed the chase, following the trail of damage that the rhino had left behind as it charged in it's confused fury. Deep footprints, shattered tree trunks and uprooted foliage to name but a few signs. Thankfully the other animals knew to get out of the way ahead of time.
The two heroes caught up with the rhino as it stood near the waterhole, dunking his head over and over while making pained noises. As Tarzan approached it turned back towards him and charged once more, forcing him up a tree to avoid being gored. As the beast rammed the trunk trying to bring the ape-man back down he grabbed onto a vine and swung to safety, letting out his well known battle yell.
On the ground he was at a disadvantage and in the treetops he couldn't keep the animal distracted enough for Edward to inspect him, so that left a third option. Tarzan landed in the water and waded up to a shallow point, thumping his chest to attract attention. The rhino took the bait and charged him, unknowingly getting bogged down in the mud and reducing his charge to a sticky stumble in the waterbed. Once he was close enough Tarzan leapt forwards and wrapped his arms around the snout, trying to hold the rhino steady, thankfully it was putting most of it's energy in to moving its hooves rather than its head.
"Edward! Now!"
ooc: Sorry about the delay. Was trying to think of a decent tactic to actually stop a charging rhino. Apparently you don't XD
