The meeting place they had chosen was a place away from both Maleficent's home kingdom as well as Narissa's. Given both of their reputations and power levels it was for the best. If it came to a fight between the two of them- which she hoped it wouldn't because that would mean her negotiations had failed- she had no interest in having her castle leveled. She also had no interest in walking into a trap or into Narissa's dwelling thus giving her home field advantage. She probably should have suggested somewhere completely off the Isle of the Crown but until she had more thoroughly secured her allies she wasn't sure she was safe. She was powerful, but not a fool.
The Crossroads of the holiday worlds wasn't necessarily the perfect place to meet. Should anyone decide the wanted to venture into or out of those worlds they would stumble upon the pair of them which would lead to some minor complications. However Maleficent was fairly certain that under the circumstances the cowardly fools of this realm were locking and barricading their doors instead of venturing out. Interruptions aside the Holiday Crossroads was secluded in the middle of the forest and normally didn't see much traffic. Also the doorways were indestructible as far as she could tell and it was an easily identifiable location. With a myriad of exits should things go south.
Things had been going very slow but at least smoothly as far as collecting allies. Hades and she had formed an alliance more swiftly than most. If anyone understood her own feelings of rage and insult, he did. Facilier had agreed to help her in exchange for his shadow and she'd sent him off to recruit others for her. She wasn't sure he understood what he had agreed to. Narissa would be a powerful ally, there was no question in that. While every ally she'd acquired was more like a partner, Maleficent was the ringmaster, so to speak, and her one concern was that Narissa was too much like herself meaning she wouldn't work well under someone else's orders.
Her carriage had plunged down near the outer edge of the forest and had whisked her easily between even the tightest packed trees, the benefits of possessing magical transport. She'd left the carriage less than a hundred feet away and walked the rest of the way staff in hand. Her eyes darted around searching for any signs of her... appointment. Though it was still early enough for there to be light, the grove of trees was shaded and full of shadows. Staying alert, she stepped forward and into the open area inside the circle of trees each decorated with a colorful door representing a singular holiday and waited.

(OOC: I wasn't completely happy with the location but I couldn't really think of anywhere else that might have worked that was located on the Crown island. I'm up for suggestions if you want me to edit )
There were no animals about in this part of the forest, Narissa realized. She hoped her raven form didn't look too out of place--she had chosen it because she mistakenly thought it would blend in with the rest of the forest creatures. But then, who was around to notice? No-one, not yet. She had arrived early in the hopes of gaining an advantage, though it now seemed there was nothing to be gained. Raising a talon briefly, she shifted on the branch of the tree she was perched in. It wasn't one that encircled the clearing, for she had been wary of settling in one of those 'special' trees, but it was close enough for the shapeshifting sorceress to keep a good eye on the area.
She didn't know how Maleficent intended to make her arrival for their meeting. No doubt she'd make some sort of flashy entrance designed to impress and intimidate. And Narissa would gladly do the same in revealing her presence. She was Maleficent's equal, that would be made clear straight away. But it would be done respectfully. The last thing Narissa needed was to have accidentally offended the Mistress of All Evil. She was a nasty enemy to have, especially when one was down on their luck the way Narissa was.
It was already taking too much of Narissa's concentration to stay as the black-feathered bird. Funny, how it was always more difficult to turn oneself into a distinctly smaller form than it was to turn into a large one, like a dragon. Still, it was far less conspicuous, and Maleficent liked ravens, or so Narissa had heard. It was just a little something Narissa had done to try and curry favor with her new potential ally, but it was starting to get tiresome holding her avian shape, and she hadn't even been waiting that long.
There was a movement in the trees up ahead. If Narissa had been in her natural human form, she would have rolled her eyes. The Mistress of All Evil, walking to the Crossroads. How common. How unlike what Narissa had expected. Still, it would be prudent to stand on ceremony when greeting her. Not showy, not overly conspicuous, for subtlety seemed to be what Maleficent wanted today, but still impressive. Her usual tricks wouldn't cut it this time. That was fine--she ought to save her strength anyway, just in case Maleficent was feeling particularly irritable and decided to make an enemy of her instead. Now that was a battle she didn't look forward to fighting.
After Maleficent had stepped into the clearing, Narissa raised her dark feathered wings and glided down from the tree to land beside the woman. As she approached the ground, she hissed out the incantation to transform herself back into a human, making an effort to cloak herself in swirls of indigo smoke as she changed shape rather than the dazzling flames she typically used. Not the flashiest of entrances, but then, Maleficent's arrival was so understated that fire and brimstone would have seemed tacky in comparison.
The former Queen of Andalasia was now standing in the clearing in her human form, and, she noted with some satisfaction, she had not a hair out of place. Evidently she was getting back into the swing of things where her magic was concerned. She inclined her head to the other woman with a smile. It wasn't the kind of falsely cheerful and overly toothy grin she'd had to plaster on to pull the wool over her stepson's eyes, but a slight, soft curving of the lips that she reserved for only a chosen few. There was no need to put on a mask with this kind of company. Words, however, would still need to be twisted a tad, at least to start. First, a little flattery was in order.
"Maleficent. It's good to finally meet you. I've heard so much about you... I hope it's all true."
(OOC: I can't really think of another location either This place is fine by me!)

It was hard to say if Maleficent had any sort of expectations regarding this meeting with Narissa. She never walked into a situation intending for there to be any sort of arguments or confrontations and yet they always seemed to find her. Since Narissa had been rather cordial and even prompt with her agreement to meet with her, Maleficent's hopes on gaining another were quite high.
Maleficent was not one that was easily startled. She tended to be so busy thinking and concocting that she often had to drag herself from her reveries in order to fully comprehend the situation and by then the element of surprise was long since lost. Maleficent wasn't exactly daydreaming but she possessed a heightened state of vigilance as she prepared to meet with the unknown so she wasn't exactly startled when a raven not unlike her own glided cleanly down and landed beside her.
She took a step back as she watched it transform into the shape of a human woman, elaborately dressed. She reassessed her own entrance just then, wondering if perhaps she should have opted for one of her more flashy arrivals. Then again hers tended to involve a lot more fire and blinding lights and she didn't want to unwittingly start a wizard's duel. Intimidating petty kings was an entirely different thing altogether.
"Likewise." Maleficent returned with the slip of a smile and an incline of her head as she acknowledged the greeting. She chuckled before continuing, "I don't know what you've heard but I suppose the truth of it will be up to you to decide." She reached down and swept aside the bottom of her long robes to adjust slightly for when she had stepped backwards to witness Narissa's transformation.
"Your own skills are quite impressive Narissa," She offered the compliment easily. Though she possessed an unwavering arrogance in regards to her own abilities, she could certainly appreciate a highly skilled magic user. "Sorcerers with a truly masterful grasp of their potentials are few and far between." Sometimes simply stating the truth was enough for her to get what she wanted. Perhaps today would be one of those times.
(OOC: There aren’t words for how sorry I am that this took so long! I was going to keep writing but I didn't know if you wanted to interject something here. If not, let me know and I will edit )
Maleficent, Narissa noted with no small measure of relief, was smiling, and the sorceress found her own smile broadening ever-so-slightly. Still, she knew she couldn't relax just yet. Everyone knew that the Mistress of All Evil had a temper that was all too easy to set off, and immense powers that she was more than happy to use to make the life of anyone who offended her absolutely miserable.
Although the current situation seemed fairly safe, given the high praise Maleficent had just bestowed upon her. But was it born out of respect? Or did the dark faerie simply want to coerce Narissa into serving her? Narissa hated to admit it, but if that was Maleficent's plan, it was working. The shapeshifting sorceress was fairly certain a blush was creeping its way onto her cheeks, and fought to contain it.
"I'm flattered! I mean, coming from someone as talented and powerful as yourself--" The subtext of Maleficent's last comment hit Narissa like--well, like a certain event ending in her untimely demise that she'd rather not recall--and she found herself at a loss for words. But only briefly. She had been taught from childhood to maintain composure at all times, or at least, to fake it, and she was fast remembering the lessons her mother had drilled into her. Her face went back to the blank, unassuming mask she had worn so often as queen. "So, you've been looking for skilled magic-users? And you thought to call upon me. A high compliment indeed."
“I’m looking for… exceptional individuals with common goals hoping to repay the… kindness that we have been recently freed of.” Maleficent concurred with minor clarification. Her demeanor remained easy, or as much at ease as Maleficent ever allowed herself to be. Though there was still plenty of time for this encounter to go completely awry, it seemed as though things would remain civil between the two and the surrounding trees weren’t in any danger of being leveled by a wizard’s duel.
Seeing as a rather tidy opening had manifested itself, Maleficent continued on with her purpose in an event to take advantage of the cordiality between them. Might as well go for the hard sell while things were amiable.
“I’ve been through a rather unsettling experience recently perhaps one with which you can empathize.” She began, “I don’t agree with the decision made to unfairly imprison some perfectly lovely individuals simply trying to find their place in this unforgiving world.” Whether she was trying to sell Narissa on joining up with her or not, she believed every word she spoke. “Who is anyone to judge how we choose to live our lives?”
She pressed on as she felt her own inner rage and indignance regarding the situation flaring up once more, “And what happens should they decide to do it again? I want to weed out exactly who has wronged me, wronged us, and make sure they understand exactly what they did and make absolutely certain they can’t do it again.” Maleficent tilted her head slightly and scrutinized Narissa, "Does that seem like a cause you could support?"

Narissa remained silent through Maleficent's speech. The sorceress' lip curled slightly and her hands balled into fists at the reminder of her entrapment in the Forever Stone, but her expression soon turned into a smirk, slowly broadening into something of a wolfish grin the more Maleficent spoke. At her sides, her fingers flexed and twitched, evidence of how eager she was to enact revenge.
Gone was the mask of indifference, the formal, overly contained posturing and poise--which wasn't to say she looked inelegant, not at all, for she had a natural regal bearing, and knew enough to keep a relatively calm appearance. She was simply making no effort to completely conceal her true emotions any more.
And why should she, when Maleficent knew exactly how she felt? For they were clearly of one mind when it came to what should be done in regards to the people that had humiliated them. Although, Narissa would admit that action on the scale Maleficent envisioned hadn't quite crossed her mind until just now, but yes, now that the other villainess had put it into words, there it was, the shape of it seemingly having been in the back of her mind already.
She nearly laughed at the question. She couldn't imagine herself disagreeing, and not simply because of her desire for vengeance. It wasn't wise to turn down the Mistress of All Evil, nor was it wise to laugh at her. Thus, she gave her answer with complete seriousness. "Yes. Yes, you have my support."
Almost uncharacteristically, Narissa didn't think to ask what kind of support she would be providing, so caught up in the glorious idea was she. Then again, she hadn't thought of what the price would be for using dark magic when she started studying it, either--she had been willing to pay anything then, and the same was true of this new alliance.
A smile curled a corner of Maleficent's mouth as the two women found themselves in a new tenuous alliance, perhaps even a blossoming friendship. "Wonderful," She said clutching at her staff with both hands. "You are welcome to come and go from my mountain if you wish. It's rather ...drafty but safe and secret enough to conduct business." Maleficent didn't necessarily relish the idea of her mountain crawling with powerful loose canons but since for the moment those canons would be pointed at the rulers of Rohandor, she wasn't too worried about betrayal or mutiny.
"I have no immediate plans to speak of. Right now I'm simply looking to cast a net far and wide to collect as many like-minded individuals as possible before making a move." A look of distaste danced across her features, "I hope to leave them festering in their on anxiety while we gather our forces. A lesson needs to be learned and we are the ones to teach it."
Her face returned to a neutral, pleasant expression, "Perhaps one of our first orders of business can be to return you to your rightful place on Andalusia's throne." Maleficent said empathetically. "I do find that the order of succession is extremely unfair and in no uncertain terms outdated." She explained with a tilt of her head. "Just because a young whelp takes a wife, doesn't mean he knows anything of running a kingdom."
(OOC: We can probably wrap this up if you want and either start something else or start plotting for later. I think these two ladies are going to cause some serious headaches for our heroes!)

Narissa's eyebrows shot up at the invitation--it had been too long since she'd lived under a real roof, and despite the comforts Facilier had promised her, the idea of staying at least for a time in Maleficent's castle sounded just a little more appealing. It was certainly a better choice strategically, even if she couldn't keep as close of an eye on Edward this way.
She recovered quickly, smiling. "I think I might take you up on that generous offer sometime soon. Thank you." It was only polite to give notice of when she intended to pay a visit, to give her hostess time to prepare, and Narissa knew manners would be of the utmost importance when dealing with Maleficent. Besides, Narissa had preparations of her own to make before she could consider leaving Andalasia for an extended time.
But those plans could wait--Narissa had spotted an opportunity. "If you require another pair of eyes for the task, I'm sure I could help you recruit a few others." It wouldn't hurt to offer--it would prove how useful she could be to the cause, and keep her in Maleficent's 'good books' so that her revenge on Edward would remain near the top of their to-do list. Her smile broadened at the thought. "Excellent. I completely agree. I've been working on a plan to take care of Edward, and I could certainly use a second opinion. But we can talk more on that another time--you'll forgive me, but I'm a little wary of being out in the open like this too long, even if it is a relatively safe location."
(OOC: sure, let's wrap this one up and figure out another thread for our villainous ladies! I'm looking forward to seeing the chaos they'll cause...)
Post by Maleficent on Mar 26, 2015 15:20:49 GMT -5
Maleficent nodded, "I agree." Now that the two of them had come to an understanding and there would be no wizard's duel or any sort of destruction at least for the time being, it was probably best for them to move along. "Let us take our leave. I'll be returning to my fortress. I have some further business to attend to." She explained without elaboration. While she definitely was not one to place all her cards on the table, she currently was trying to assemble her deck so she didn't have more than a few cards to play, powerful as they might be.
"It's been a pleasure." She told Narissa sincerely. With every new ally she acquired, her small group grew both in strength and versatility. While Facilier offered one set of talents, Narissa brought a whole other set. Soon they would come together to unleash a vengeance on the unsuspecting 'heroes' the likes of which they could never have forseen. They would be very, very, sorry. "If you do happen upon any... prospects, do send them my way." She smiled.
It was a delicate situation she was in. Trust was not something she gave easily, if at all but if she wanted this plan to work she was going to have to make peace with the idea of trusting these new associates. To a point anyway. What she intended was to create something of a council. A society if it could be called that, where they were all equal and would join together as needed to take out their adversaries. It might very well fail and fall apart. But if they could hold on long enough, all of this would be worth it.
"I'll be in touch. You know where to find me."
