NOTE: This is a continuation of the thread "Into the Unknown" which can be found here.
Jane could not stop marvelling at the countryside that Merida called her home; the young princess had so graciously agreed to show the Englishwoman around, and it was a good thing she had, too. Oh, of course, Jane could have explored on her own, but she had a feeling she'd have gotten lost rather quickly. She'd been to Scotland once, with Daddy, but it had been nothing like this. This Scotland was wild and free, a lot like the jungle she now called her home.
"I do wish Tarzan and Daddy could have been here," she said with a laugh, "Tarzan wouldn't know what to do with trees that haven't any vines. And the weather is much different; he'd have to wear something other than his loincloth and that never sits terribly well with him, though he looks rather dashing in his father's suit," Jane said, practically in one breath.
"But listen to me, going on and on about Tarzan. Thank you so much for showing me around, Miss Merida!" Jane gushed, smiling brilliantly at the princess. "I think I would have gotten quite lost if I'd decided to wander on my own. Is there anything I can do to repay you for your kindness?" She was going to be doing a portrait of the young princess, but that wouldn't be done for quite some time; if there was one thing about which Jane was a perfectionist, it was her art.
It was at that point they reached the castle itself, causing Jane's jaw to drop open. All the castles they'd visited in Scotland had been ruins, but the building that stood before her now was anything but. It was huge and imposing, and downright beautiful.

((OOC: This is bad and I feel bad. But it's a start, at least!))
Already, in their incredibly brief time together, Merida had become used to the way that Jane Porter carried on a conversation. Largely by herself, it seemed. Initially, when they had first come face-to-face a half hour earlier, Merida had been overwhelmed. Not only because she had never met someone who could say so many words without the apparent need to breathe, but because Jane had been accompanied at the time by a group of strange men whose presence furthered Merida's discomfort.
Throughout their steady walk to the castle - Merida having dismounted to stride alongside Jane, leading Angus as they went - she had started to get used to the woman's way of speaking. She was actually getting to the point where she caught everything that Jane said in her rapid-fire way; even if the princess didn't necessarily understand much if any of it. Merida also somewhat liked not having to participate wholly in the conversation, since Jane kept it going mostly by herself. There were times enough where Merida could get, or was given the chance to get an answer in.
Merida liked Jane. She had decided. It never took the Princess of DunBroch long to formulate an opinion on someone, and it almost always stuck. Merida didn't know if that was because she was a good judge of character, or impulsive and stubborn. Probably the latter. Merida looked uncertain as Jane said her name with a "miss" in front of it. While it was a happy change from "princess" - a designation that Merida always chafed at being given - it still wasn't satisfactory. "Erm... Just 'Merida' is fine," she suggested.
Merida was just trying to figure out how to assure Jane that there was no need for "repayment" when they left the forest abruptly behind and came within view of the castle itself. The princess looked over curiously to Jane, whose mouth had fallen open. Merida had never been overwhelmed by the castle; it was home, and that was that. Jane's reaction made her wonder if, to other people, that home could be considered awe-striking, though. Other than that stray thought, Merida was a little tickled. She covered a chuckling mouth with one hand and then, smiling brightly, cast out an arm in an exaggerated gesture. "Welcome to Castle DunBroch!"

Even as Jane had been chattering away, there was a part of her mind that wondered if she should really be talking so much. True, she paused occasionally (mostly for breath) and the young princess was able to get a word in, but she was rambling more than she usually did. Jane realized that her rambling was a sort of defence mechanism, but she was starting to feel a bit more comfortable with Merida. Yes, she was still getting used to her, but things were much better than they had been when the two had first met. Neither of them had been quite sure what to think about the other, at that point.
The young princess requested that Jane call her simply "Merida," which would take the Englishwoman some time to remember. Jane was used to using titles for people; calling someone by her given name was an unusual idea for her. But she'd try, since it appeared to be important to the young woman.
"Just Merida," Jane said with a smile, "I shall try to remember that." Really, it just showed that they were becoming more comfortable with one another, something that was decidedly exciting since this was Jane's first excursion out of the jungle since she'd decided to stay with Tarzan.
Jane smiled at Merida's welcome to the castle; it certainly was impressive. "I've never seen a castle in its prime like this," she admitted. "Daddy and I travelled around a bit, but everything we saw was in ruins." She loved exploring history, and seeing such an impressive structure when it was complete was astounding.
