It was still early morning when Kristoff sold his last slab of ice. Despite his hesitations about being "Ice Master" when the queen could provide her people with as much ice as they could possibly want, business was actually going well. The Queen of course could not be bothered for something like this and the economy had to plow ahead. Supply and demand. Currently the weather was sunny and warm and Kristoff hoped it would stay that way.
The fact was-- he needed money. Much more than he had at the moment.
As he walked down the street, Sven following behind, Kristoff counted the day's earnings in his palm, pushing around the coins and doing the math quickly in his head. At this rate it would take months.
He stopped outside a shop window and looked in at the display. It was a high-end jewelry store with important pieces from as far as the Southern Isles. … Not that Kristoff planned on buying anything from wherever Prince No-Last-Name came from. What he was really in the market for was a ring.
He argued with himself, back and forth. He had conversations with Sven about it too. Was he crazy? Asking Anna to marry him? She was a princess! And he was...
His eyes focused on his reflection in the window. He looked himself up and down.
He was far from princely.
Sven had stopped paying attention (his eyes focused on the produce stand across the street) and walked right into Kristoff from behind. "Woah!!" He swung out his arms, trying to keep his balance, and watched as all nine hard-earned coins flew from his open hand and out into the street. Without thinking, he ran to retrieve them.
Edward strode through the new land (what was it called? Darendall? Arenbelle? No, Arendelle, that was it), admiring the scenery. He had an appointment with the Queen a bit later, but until that time, he was able to wander at his leisure, enjoying the people and sights of this new realm.
It had been relatively last-minute, their stop to this Isle, but Arendelle was rather new to Rohandor; the maps were still the process of being corrected. But, as Edward and Nancy were still on their survey of the realm's royalty, they had figured they might as well stop in and see if there were any royals that might want to meet and form an alliance with them.
The young King was just thinking about purchasing something for his dearest Nancy when several coins rolled right by him, pursued by a young gentleman. Edward reached down and scooped up several of the coins that had eluded the man, smiling brilliant.
"Peasant!" he called pleasantly, meaning no insult in the term, "I believe these coins belong to you, sirrah," Edward stated, handing the young man the coins he'd rescued from the ground. After all, it wouldn't do to allow money to simply run away from him; currency was important if one proposed to make some sort of living!
((OCC: Terrible post is short and terrible. D: Let me know if you have enough to work with!))
OOC- This is great!! ^_^ Mine will be short too though. lol

Kristoff was more concerned with losing his hard-earned money to pay attention to all the details around him-- most importantly that a prince seemed to be the one returning it to him. He said very grateful thank-you and counted quickly. Eight. Looking around for the last coin, his eyes fell on it just as a young boy picked it up. Kristoff and the boy locked eyes. "Hey-- that's--" But the boy took off like a shot and disappeared in the crowd. Kristoff sighed, aggravated. "YOU'RE WELCOME!" He called after the kid, pocketing the coins before any more could be lost.
Turning back to Edward, Kristoff seemed to really see him for the first time. "Oh uh…" This man was clearly very wealthy, and by the way he spoke and dress form some other land. What was he supposed to do? Bow? "Sorry… You must be here to see Queen Elsa. Would you like me to show you to the castle?" He gestured over his shoulder with his thumb. "I was headed that way."
Sven's ears perked up at this. Home! The reindeer gave an excited bounce and started walking in that direction without Kristoff. He knew the way. Kristoff may be having trouble getting used to life at the palace, but Sven was very much enjoying it. He slept in the royal stables, got brushed at least once a day, and the children of the palace staff would sneak him treats.
Edward watched as the other man attempted to get his last coin from a young child who had picked it up. But instead of handing it back, the boy ran off, which prompted Edward's new acquaintance to yell after him.
"Allow me!" Edward said brightly, offering several coins to replace the one the boy had stolen. He could afford it, after all, and this person had been quite pleasant, so far! Granted, they hadn't exactly interacted, but he seemed like a decent fellow. And Edward was always quick to decide whether or not he liked people.
At the young man's words about the Queen, Edward laughed, shaking his head. "Oh, I do have an appointment with the queen, but I am enjoying this fair city!" he exclaimed, glancing around once more. "Perhaps you could show me around the city before I meet with your Queen?" he asked. "Oh, where are my manners! I am Edward, King of Andalasia," he said, offering his hand to shake, the way Nancy had said one should do when meeting a new person.
"What is it that you so desperately need the coins for?" he asked, curiously. Besides, if it was a noble cause, he could possibly be inclined to help contribute to the young man's efforts. It wasn't as though he couldn't afford it, after all.
Kristoff looked at the offered coins and held up a hand. "Thank you, but I couldn't. I have to do this myself." Kristoff was determined to buy a ring on his own. He had considered selling the ice sled, but it had been a gift from Anna, so that was out of the question. So, hard work and time was all he had.
When Edward said he was a king, Kristoff again felt horribly awkward. "Oh…" He scrambled to remember any of the 'appropriate responses to royalty' the castle staff had tried to teach him, but at the moment all he could manage was to pull off his hat, his blonde hair sticking up rebelliously.
A hand shake Kristoff did recognize, and gratefully he clasped the king's hand. "I'm Kristoff. The er…" He would have said "Ice Master of Arendelle" but he was pretty sure that wasn't a real thing, so he said instead, "I'm an ice harvester."
Normally showing royalty around would not at all have appealed to Kristoff, but Edward seemed to be genuinely nice and at ease talking to a commoner. Edward wasn't at all stuck up or disinterested like some of the other Royals he'd met at some of the castle functions. So, Kristoff nodded in agreement. "I can show you anything you'd like to see. The ship yard, the fjord, the chocolatier…"
At Edwards final question, Kristoff gave a weak laugh. "Well, I'm saving up to buy something important for--" He almost said "Anna" but caught himself. This guy was a king and would likely be seeing Anna and Elsa that very night. He had not had a chance to ask Elsa for her blessing and didn't want to bring it up until he was good and ready. … but then a terrible thought struck him. What if King Edward was here looking to arrange a royal marriage? He glanced Edward over again, this time sizing him up as competition. Just in case, he'd better be clear. "… A gift. I'm saving up for a gift for Princess Anna."
The young King smiled as the other man refused the coins he offered to him. This Kristoff was an honourable sort, the kind of person that Edward decidedly liked. He said that the reason he was saving was something he had to do himself, a statement that Edward certainly understood and appreciated.
"You are an honourable fellow, my good man!" Edward exclaimed, smiling brightly at the other man. "And I would be doing you a disservice to besmirch your honour; I am glad you did not accept my offer!" the King declared, pocketing the coins that he had held out. If he'd known Kristoff's reasons in more detail, he never would have offered anything to him, not because he would have been, but because he would have been concerned about offending Kristoff. There was a certain satisfaction in being able to purchase something for one's beloved oneself, after all.
Edward shook Kristoff's hand, still rather bewildered by the gesture. It didn't seem very regal, but Nancy had said that that was how people greeted one another in New York, and he wanted to try to blend her culture with his own.
"An ice harvester!" Edward repeated with delight. "I have heard of such occupations, but never have I met someone who was employed in such a field!" That was something he was going to be speaking to the Queen about; the possibility of trade. And he was certainly interested in importing ice; it wasn't exactly in abundance in Andalasia.
Kristoff had agreed to Edward's request that he show him around before Edward met with the Queen, a fact that brought a smile to the young King's face. "Excellent!" he exclaimed, clapping the ice harvester on the back. "I should very much like to see as much of this fair kingdom as possible," he agreed, glancing around once more.
And then Kristoff mentioned purchasing a gift, something that Edward was decidedly interested in. Every time he went somewhere without Nancy, he bought something of that Isle for her and presented it to her with enthusiasm. This Isle was decidedly beautiful, and he was quite excited to be able to give something to Nancy.
"A gift! Yes, I, too, must obtain a gift for my beloved," he said with another bright smile. He meant Nancy, his dearest wife, of course, not realizing that Kristoff thought that he was here to try to arrange a royal wedding.
