Basil briefly wondered why aliens were part of Gadget's list of her own unusual stories. Were foreigners really that rare in her side of the world? Well, no matter.
"You'd be surprised how fast you can pedal when the other option is a fatal drop."
Basil removed his coat and hat, hanging them on a protruding bolt before rolling up his sleeves to help getting the aircraft into working condition. He unrolled an end of the tube that was pointed out to him, noticing it was human sized medical tubing, before pumping the lever to get the water flowing. He had to appreciate the ingenuity in re-purposing human items into mouse sized engineering equipment.
"Forgive my impertinence, but did you ever consider purchasing tools in your size? This is impressive but it seems unwieldy."
Presumably the objects Gadget was removing from her plane were some kind of power or fuel cell. Presumably electrical in some fashion given the positive and negative terminals clearly labelled at either end. Luckily she was around, given that Basil would have to learn the components from scratch trying to get the craft working. For now he started cleaning the dust and other accumulated grime away from the front end of the plane, deciding it was wise to stay far away from electricity while handling water. From what the detective could make out the main body of the vehicle was a long, tube like portable light. A lot different from the lanterns back home.
"It is a fine craft in any case. I say you don't need any help with those do you?"

While he started to wash the front of the Ranger Wing, Gadget had wrestled the last of the dead batteries out of the back of the plane. She sent all three of them rolling across the floor so they were out of the way.
"Tools my own size?" She repeated, looking over the top of the wing at him. She wasn't entirely sure what to make of the question. "Like from a doll house?"
In Gadget's world, rodents like herself had to get creative with human things to make their own lives a little easier. Take the Ranger Wing for example-- the dash had the face of a watch and a compass she'd "borrowed" from a sporting goods store. The wings of the Ranger Wing used to be a boomerang. She had once made a hang glider out of folded paper and a drinking straw.
While she was still wondering what he had meant, he asked about the batteries. She looked him over-- he was taller and would probably have an easier time lifting them into place. So, she nodded.
"That would be great. Just pinch the hose closed with this." She grabbed a small paperclip and tossed it to him before going to pull out a fresh back of AA Batteries. Using a dolly made from a combination of bottle caps, #2 pencils and an old credit card, she pushed the new pack of batteries over to the back of the plane.
It was nice, having someone to work with again. Whatever they found outside, she was glad Basil had stayed.

"Well, no. I mean mouse tools Miss Hackwrench. Like mouse furnishings. Mouse books." Basil was as confused as Gadget was at this point in the conversation. "Maybe from a shop somewhere near where you buy your clothing?"
The Rescue Rangers were somewhat of an odd group, though Gadget's inventions like her plane and the other things around her home were impressive feats of engineering unheard of back among mouse civilisation in London, the same craftsmanship was applied to their home furnishings both here and back at the treehouse. Maybe it was more financially efficient to scavenge and recycle human materials rather than buy the items they needed.
Basil accepted the paperclip and pinned the hose closed after he cleaned up most of the plane, then pulled open the packaging of the batteries. They were a little awkward to handle, but he hefted each one up and slotted them into the Ranger Wing one after the other, making sure to line up the positive and negative markings with the helpful symbols inside the flashlight. Like Basil he was also enjoying working on getting the vehicle back into working order.
"You and the other Rescue Rangers will have to visit London at some point. Maybe when we find some downtime from this whole situation."
The detective had already worked on a case with Chip some time back, a somewhat unusual affair. For the sake of his curiosity he'd like to see the Rangers apply their methods to one of his cases and see if they got good results. Of course he'd be there to supervise in case things went less than ideally.

Mouse furnishings? Mouse books? She looked down at her clothes. "Actually, my dad got these from a toy store." Now that the batteries were in place, Gadget closed the hatch and pushed until it clicked tightly into place. Turning back to Basil, she looked up at him. "So, in London… in your world… there are mouse-sized things?"
She crossed her arms and looked at the Ranger Wing thoughtfully. What amazing things she could do with a workshop like that. The possibilities made her head swim.
Basil's question brought her back to reality. "What's next? Oh!" The blonde mouse climbed up on the wing of the plane and dropped easily into the pilot seat as she had countless times before. "Well, that depends on how this goes."
She flipped a switch and the flashlight at the front turned on. That was a good sign. She flipped off the light and turned the next switch. Slowly, the propellers on either side began to spin. They were pointing upwards, so the plane didn't lift off or move. They began to pick up speed as Gadget checked the other knobs and buttons on the control panel.
She lovingly wiped one last bit of dust off the bottle cap that functioned as a steering wheel. She hadn't sat in this seat for a very long time. For a moment, she could hear Chip at her side, leaning over the back seat to pummel Dale as they argued, Zipper and Monty trying to break them up. Basil had said he'd talked to Chip. Maybe… maybe she'd find them again out there.
She signed softly and cut the engine. Getting to her feet, she looked back at Basil.
"We're good to go! I just need to get a few things."

"You seriously don't have mouse shops?" It actually explained the culture shock they were both having if the only option in Gadget's world was toy clothing and things made from human belongings. "Well...now you and your team will certainly have to visit London. I'll introduce you to some reputable establishments."
Basil stood back as Gadget began to test how her vehicle started up. The light flicked on while the propellers wound up. Now that it was in action Basil understood the concept a little more. It seemed the wings could rotate to provide both vertical movement for take off, like Da Vinci's aerial screw design, and then face forwards for momentum. This eliminated the need for a long stretch of flat ground to use as a run up to build enough speed for flight.
"Impressive work Miss Hackwrench." He shouted over the propellers. "Very good innovation on the...vertical take off."
As Gadget worked at the controls Basil noticed a longing nostalgic look on her face, though it wasn't clear if she intended him to notice or not. Maybe it was the idea of getting back into the game, bringing her friends back together and fighting the good fight once more. The detective silently wished her well as she shut down the craft and disembarked to gather what was presumably her travelling equipment.
"Take your time Miss. I'll just...put these away." Basil cleared away the tools that had been used in getting the Ranger Wing working, putting them where he'd seen Gadget retrieve them from so as to not mess up any system she had. He finished by rolling away the hose, noticing too late the pressure building under the paperclip.
"Oh...." He was cut off as the clip gave way and sprayed a quick torrent in his face before subsiding. ".....Bother. Thankfully nobody was around to see that."

While Basil put things to rights, Gadget ran back to the cockpit of the plane and gathered up her toolbox (the very same one she'd brought with her from Ranger Headquarters) and packed a small bag. In it she stowed the picture of her father, the photo of the Rangers, and a few other odds and ends. Then she unplugged the radio.
Standing in the middle of the place she had called home, the bag over her shoulder and the toolbox in hand, she realized that she wasn't going to come back. She stood a little taller and lifted her chin, taking one last look around. No matter what they found outside-- new worlds or not-- Gadget had got it in her head that she was leaving. Now she clung to that idea like a life raft.
She wasn't going to be alone any more.
Gadget made her way back to the Ranger Wing just in time to see Basil get a face full of water. She laughed and then covered her mouth with her hand, quickly sitting down her bags. She hurried to bring him a small towel and laughed again. She wasn't laughing *at* him, just unable to hold in the happiness she felt to have a friend again.
"Don't worry. Once I get the Ranger Wing up to speed you'll dry off in no time."
Going back to her plane, she stowed her bags in the back seat before heading over to the ropes tied along the wall. She untied another, pulleys and gears creaked in response, and a large hatch fell open at the back of the plane.

"Thank you kindly." Basil accepted the towel and dried off as Gadget packed the last of her personal items.
Under her laughter the detective noticed a few other expressions and emotions on the Ranger. At first it seemed like she was nervous or afraid of leaving her home, understandable given that she had apparently been cooped up all this time and missed the fact that the globe had gone through a massive change. Then there was the spark of excitement, a renewed vigor that came from starting a whole new adventure or case. and there would be plenty of new adventure opportunities upcoming.
Right now she was working with another set of pulleys, opening part of the larger aircraft to provide an exit for her Ranger Wing. Basil briefly looked up at the ceiling wondering about the other vehicles and inventions that seemed to have been stored away.
"So...will the rest of your creations be safe or will someone come back for them?"
A concerning issue, especially if Ratigan's thugs managed to gain entry into this treasure trove of engineering. Or maybe the traps would deter them. If Basil could set them off and nearly lose his hat by accident then they'd have no chance trying to navigate them.
The Detective gave Gadget a boost into the plane before embarking himself.
"After you Miss Hackwrench. You may want to brace yourself, it's an amazing new world out there."
ooc: We could move onto the thread with Jasmine if you want to finish this off?

When Basil asked about her other inventions, the female mouse considered it, following his gaze up to the ceiling.
"Hmm… I didn't think about that."
Most of them were in various states of completion, and those that *were* complete were likely to fall apart without Gadget's loving care. It had never occurred to Gadget that criminals would be interested in her inventions.
"I think they'll be alright. … to be honest, you're the first one who's come looking for me in a really long time. I'd be surprised if anyone came here after we're gone."
When he offered her a hand, she took it and thanked him for the boost. Dropping into the front seat, she began adjusting various dials on the control panel.
Once Basil was seated at her side, Gadget smiled at him. "Better buckle up."
She started the 'engines' and the propellers began to spin. When they reached the desired speed, Gadget pushed down on a pedal on the floorboard and the propellors dropped down so they were under the wings and the Ranger Wing lifted off, hovering in the air like a helicopter.
An amazing new world? With all her heart Gadget hoped the wild story Basil had told her was true.
"Here we go!"
She pushed a different pedal and the propellors shifted backwards slightly, urging the Ranger Wing forward. Picking up speed, they flew through the back hatch of the old Bomber and out into sunshine.
