The unrest in Agrabah was still present, but it had been wrestled into the shadows by the guard. Not until after a group of miscreants had slipped into the palace and made off with several priceless heirlooms, however. It was this slight, this offense given to the guard and their stung pride that inspired the swell in action that stamped out the brightest embers of anarchy in the city. The collapse of the Forever Stone's enchantment had encouraged every criminal element in Rohandor in some way. Considering Agrabah was, at its best, a daring place to live, that encouragement had amounted to a lot of trouble for the Sultan, the princess and the city's resident hero.
Jasmine was grateful that the guard had the upper hand; for now. She just wished that that small victory didn't come at the price of some of her family's greatest treasures. The Sultan was positively bedridden, he was so depressed. Jasmine's father always did place perhaps too much love into material things. His collection of figurines was without equal across all the Isles. Yes, the princess had to get their stolen reliquaries back. Now that Agrabah wasn't in danger of immediate spontaneous combustion, she had the chance to try.
That's where the Detective came in.
Basil, the Great Mouse Detective. His reputation was an impressive thing, even in Rohandor, where one had to compete with the reputations myriad fabled icons. Jasmine had enlisted the fellow's service after hearing great things of him from the Council of Three, no less. If anyone could find where her family's burgled items had gotten off to, it would be him.
Jasmine was sat on a plush cushion before a low table in the castle's courtyard. Doves cooed at her from their wooden avery and a grand fountain whispered near at hand while the princess bent her focus on the royal missives and documents spread out in front of her. The Detective was to be expected that very day. Jasmine wondered how the famous intellect would measure up to rumor.

After everything Basil had told her about Rohandor, Gadget had not truly believed it until she'd seen it with her own eyes. They'd flown across the boundaries of a few different lands that had no business being there and Gadget had finally accepted that what he had told her was true.
She'd taken him back to, of all things, a castle. But no sooner had they arrived, that Basil was told he was needed in a place called Agrabah. Gadget had offered to fly him there because… well, she had nothing else to do and she quite enjoyed the other mouse's company.
After flying over miles of desert, Gadget was relieved to finally catch site of the city of Agrabah in the distance.
"Over there!"
She adjusted the Ranger Wing's trajectory, taking them straight toward the palace. She leaned over the edge briefly, watching the buildings slip by below them. The Ranger Wing started to drift to the left and when she realized it, she sat back in her seat and righted the plane.
"Oops. Sorry about that." She laughed.
She was on a case again! It had been so long-- too long. She couldn't wait to get started. She didn't know if she could be any help to Basil beyond being his pilot, but she would do her best.
They had reached the palace now and Gadget began to circle, looking for a good place to land. Spying the lush palace gardens, she judged that there the Ranger Wing would be out-of-the way enough to avoid being stepped on by the humans. Maybe she could hide it in the bushes or…
Adjusting the position of the propellers, Gadget lowered the Ranger Wing until it came to rest on the edge of a large water fountain. Once it was down, she cut the engine and the propellors slowed to a stop.
She looked over at Basil, a look of mild surprise on her face.
"That was probably the best landing I've ever had."
No broken pieces, no lost passengers. For Gadget, that was a successful flight.

Gadget had become a lot more receptive to Basil's story once she got her aircraft running and took a small tour of Rohandor, seeing the fantastic mishmash of Isles and Kingdoms all bordering each other. The detective managed to answer any questions she'd brought up about what was where, who ruled where and who to watch out for. That is to say he answered the questions between bouts of unease. The excitement of flight had quickly drifted away once thoughts of gravity, terminal velocity and mechanical failure cemented themselves, not to mention Gadget's various out loud thoughts about pieces falling off, how long the batteries would last and if the seatbelts were actually attached securely.
Thankfully she was convinced to let him check in at one of the castles to consult the network of agents. The local mice indeed had word of a mission for him in Agrabah, an amazing desert land combining beauty and peril of many varieties. Where a Princess stood her ground against every unworthy suitor who came expecting to drag her into marriage and a lowly thief became a prince after defeating a traitorous advisor to the Sultan, where the markets were equal part peddlars and pickpockets. Naturally he snapped up the call to action right away, inviting Miss Hackwrench to join him to get back into old habits quicker. Unfortunately that required use of the Ranger Wing once again.
At least the desert looked like it would be a soft landing if anything happened, and he'd packed plenty of water bottles just in case. The city was coming up fast, which gave way to the Sultan's palace. Basil shrank into his seat as the plane banked in response to the pilot's curiosity, clutching his hat protectively. The landing was tense, but successful as the Ranger Wing landed in the fountain. The mouse flinched at Gadget's comment of this being a 'successful' landing, not wanting to ask what the previous attempts involved. For now though, he had introductions to make. The young lady in blue sitting nearby could only be the Princess Jasmine who the two mice were supposed to meet.
"Greetings Princess." Basil stepped out onto the wing and took a bow, wobbling slightly as the craft bobbed in the water. "Basil of Baker Street, Detective and Agent of the Crown at your service. and this is Miss Hackwrench, fellow Agent and Rescue Ranger. How may we be of service?"
The plane bobbed again, leaving Basil teetering on the edge of the wing, only managing to hold on by hooking his tail to the propeller. Out of his element again, but hopefully he could get through one human/mouse interaction case without injury or mishap.
Jasmine was partway through a prickly response from an adviser from the Jade Empire of the Dragon when a noise pricked her ear. Over the gurgle of the fountain, the chatter of the doves and the distant, if muffled din of the city, this particular sound did not fit, and so was much more gripping. Jasmine lifted her gaze from the wooden-slated scroll that lay spread open in front of her and tilted her head curiously. After a moment, when the sound began to increase, she nimbly rose from her seated place and walked out from beneath the shaded terrace she'd been situated upon.
The sound seemed to be coming from above and so the princess looked skyward, screening her brow with a hand against the harsh Arabian sun. As she watched, a speck grew larger and larger until it became clearly a small air craft of some sort. Jasmine was worried for a moment, because the direction of the thing made it plain that it was headed for the garden. That dread was removed when she realized that the size of the craft was much more miniature of what she had expected. The small thing swept down over the garden wall and neatly skimmed over the water of the fountain before coming to a rest.
The transport bobbed on the surface and Jasmine could hear words coming from within it. She had already put the pieces together by the time one of its occupants climbed into plain view. Jasmine smiled, both in polite welcome to her home and with mild amusement at it all. Agrabah had had all manner of visitors since coming to Rohandor. Some appeared in a flash of light and plume of smoke, others in strange vehicles or through remote means. This manifestation was distinctly unique, which was hard to come by.
Jasmine heard the introduction called out to her as she closed on the edge of the fountain. She sat on its edge and continued to smile pleasantly at the two. After they were made, the princess nodded her head. "It's a pleasure to have you both here. My name is Jasmine. Thank you so much for coming on such short notice." Jasmine extended her hand, not even pausing to think if it would be considered impolite, and offered her smooth palm for Basil, Miss Hackwrench or both to stand on so that she could usher them safely across the water to the fountain's rim.
The princess was glad that she had the forethought to put Rajah away. Even if he wouldn't have dared hurt either guest, Jasmine thought that a giant tiger's presence would have a negative response with two mice.

Gadgets first instinct was to avoid humans. In her world (kingdom?), humans left out traps for rodents and saw them as vermin and they believed that animals could not talk, so never really stopped and bothered to listen.
So, when the princess approached, Gadget felt more than a little uneasy at first. She glanced at Basil, watching him give the introductions. He didn't seemed phased by any of it, so Gadget slowly allowed herself to relax. When Basil climbed onto the princess's offered hand, Gadget followed, resting a hand lightly on Jasmine's thumb to keep her balance as they were moved.
"You have a beautiful city, Princess." Gadget smiled. She'd only had a chance to see a little of it from the sky, but it was certainly unlike any place she'd been before. … and Gadget had once befriended a mummy in Egypt. She waved away the princess's thanks. "We're happy to help!"
Gadget wasn't sure how she herself would be much help in locating any stolen items besides driving the Ranger Wing. Detective work had always been Chip's forte. Gadget knew she would mostly be assisting Basil if he needed it, or at the very least be someone he could bounce ideas off of while he thought aloud. But, whatever was needed of her, she was eager to be of assistance.

Basil took the offered hand to cross the water, hopping off at the edge of the fountain to continue the introductions and the briefing. He noticed Gadget taking in the sights around the palace courtyard, still getting over the many changes in the world during her self imposed sheltering.
"Indeed, no trouble at all helping out. Our contacts managed to get the message to us in good time and I thought it was best to make haste before any clues wasted away. Miss Hackwrench was kind enough to provide transport, unnerving though it is."
Hopefully the Ranger Wing wouldn't be required too much during this case. Amazing design aside, Gadget had an odd habit of thinking out loud on subjects like mechanical failure, crashes, accidents or anything else that would cause the craft to suddenly plummet out of the air. Still, her technical skills and ingenuity with random parts would certainly prove useful.
"If you don't mind, perhaps you could give us the full details of the theft and the items taken? Unfortunately the other agents passed on word a little too much and some exaggeration has slipped into the story, unless there really were one hundred thousand men storming the walls. Also I'd like to take a look at the scene of the crime, perhaps the culprits left something behind which could help us track them or determine a likely suspect."
Too bad the Ranger Wing wasn't fit for heavy cargo, otherwise Basil would have asked to pick up Toby. His nose always came in useful, despite his hyperactive nature and how distracted he got with new people. Perhaps next time.
Jasmine couldn't help but think how very polite the two were being. She realized then that she had been assuming something decidedly less courteous, what with their being mice. The princess crossly scorned herself inwardly for those assumptions. Gadget seemed uneasy at first, but was quickly gaining confidence, because she hopped onto Jasmine's palm and held onto her thumb without inhibition. Jasmine smiled in tender gratitude at Gadget's compliment to her city. She would have said as much, but by that point Gadget had waved off her original thanks and Basil was beginning to speak.
The princess turned slightly more to face the two mice as she placed them on the fountain's edge. Her amber eyes were attentive and thoughtful while she watched Basil who, she could already tell, appeared to get carried away with his words. That was fine. Nothing compared to Genie's nonstop chatter. Jasmine even found the Detective's words, in their refined accent, charming. She nodded when Basil politely asked if she could recount events more realistically, and continued on to propose that they actually look at the scene of the crime.
"Of course," she said with a nod. "Here you are." Jasmine held out her palm again for the pair to step onto. Once there, the princess thought of placing them on the jeweled band in her hair for their comfort. She fretted that that might, in some way, be considered rude and instead let each of them drop onto one of her shoulders, where they could brace themselves with her neck for balance. Jasmine remained very still as they situated, ignoring the faint tickle that their little feet and hands gave.
With that handled, she set off at a careful pace toward the castle interior and began to explain. "Since the Forever Stone's failure, crime in Agrabah has skyrocketed." Jasmine sounded mournful. "I thought that lending more of the palace guard to see to the city would help. It didn't. A group of thieves slipped into the castle two nights ago and overwhelmed the guards. I interrupted them, and Rajah scared them off, but not until after they'd already pocketed some of the relics we display." The three of them passed into the cavernous halls of the palace.
"Luckily they didn't have the chance to get to the royal treasury, but what they stole were priceless in more ways than one." Jasmine frowned and sighed. Many of the things that had been burgled were heirlooms of her family, or cherished gifts from distant lands. She almost wished they had stolen from the treasury instead. The princess rounded a corner into one of the side corridors of the palace. Up ahead the passageway ended in a wide, round balcony. "This is where I found them," she said, stopping and crossing her arms. "They used ropes on the balcony to get in and out."
Jasmine's eyes filled with a wicked humor. Except a fair few hadn't had the chance to use the ropes to get back down. They'd flung themselves willingly over the edge to flee from Rajah.
