Time passes much more quickly in Rohandor and many long and happy years have gone by since the characters retired to enjoy their respective 'happily ever afters,' their greatest foes were imprisoned in the Forever Stone, bound in an eternal sleep. Until Now.
Happily Ever Afters takes place in Rohandor, a mystical realm on another plane of existence from our own. Here our favorite Disney heroes and villains live in a world all their own; Alive, but far from well. Heroes and heroines fight to keep peace while newly freed villains seek their revenge. Come join us in an epic adventure as the characters you love clash in a struggle that will determine the fate of Rohandor!

Participating Characters:Fa Mulan / Owen Burnett/Puck Forum Location: Jade Empire of the Dragon - Other Time of Day: Early evening Weather: Warm, with a slight breeze Thread Location: Great Wall - Juyong Pass Premise: Mulan has been sent to escort Owen to Imperial City
The Great Wall loomed either side of the Juyong Pass, proud and unfaltering as it rose into the mountains around the well-guarded fortress – one of the few ways to cross from the lands beyond into China. Stood at the opened gates, looking out at the valley, were a line of soldiers – each one still like terracotta statues. Armoured in plate and mail, their swords proudly worn on their waist, spears in hand – even their chests remained still as they breathed.
All bar one, who stood at the centre of the line, dressed altogether differently, squirming occasionally and chewing her lip.
Much smaller in stature then the many of the Emperor's guard, Mulan was a good head shorter then the men that stood at her side, and though she too wore armour, it was of a rather different sort. Indeed, it was a blend of styles – the skirts of royalty topped with a warrior's breast plate, ceremonial in design, emblazoned with the jade dragon of the Emperor. It represented two aspects: Woman and Warror – at least that is what she'd been told by the Emperor's advisors as she'd stood awkwardly in the middle of a room; tailors and armourers flitting about her person like startled birds.
It was something that she was to don as an envoy – something that would represent her position as a heroine of China. In truth, however, she felt more comfortable in her father's armour or her own robes, and no matter how many times she wore the bespoke attire, it never seemed to be any less uncomfortable – much like the title of 'heroine.' Wrapping her fingers under her breastplate, she tugged it one way, then the other, wrinkling her nose a little.
She only paused when she noted one of the other soldier's gaze on her, one brow raised. With a half-grin, she quickly released her hold on the torso-piece, and shrugged a little. “There's a...buckle hidden under there that...chafes.” With a laborious roll of his eyes, the larger male turned his stare to match his peers, and Mulan sighed softly, straightening up.
Quite how the vassal from the distant land of 'The Statue' was meant to be arriving in the Jade Empire was beyond Mulan, though she hoped it wouldn't take much longer. She had never enjoyed standing on ceremony, and she always felt a little awkward in the presence of such well trained soldiers – all of whom, in her eyes, were as suited to her position as she was. While she had agreed to act as the Emperor's envoy, honour-bound to accept the proposal, it was a role she was most certainly growing in to. While others saw her as a heroine and saviour, she couldn't quite align herself to such views. In her head, she was still just 'Mulan' – and she was almost certain it showed.

Owen shifted in his newly acquired robes as his horse kept pace with his current escort's. After he had arrived in the Jade Empire's harbor, he had been given one look and a declaration that his typical business suit would be "completely unsuitable" for the trip he was about to make into the Imperial City. And so he had been given simple blue traveling robes; out of both practicality and wanting to respect these new potential partners and allies, he had gladly accepted. He had also been advised to strap his briefcase to his horse, so he'd taken that advice as well.
It was another task of learning and hoping to negotiate in this world. He had been to China before many times in the course of normal business, but this was decidedly not normal. Rather than the modern, metropolitan territories like Hong Kong that he was used to, it was a blend of cultures and fashions from various, decidedly older eras. It was much like the European areas he had visited in Rohandor.
The Great Wall came in sight, something that never did fail to impress Owen. Humanity could be rather brilliant when they wanted to, couldn't they? It was part of why he'd stuck around so long with them.
Before them in the open gates was a group of soldiers, a young, intricately armored young woman in the middle of them. Owen's escort bowed his head in respect while still on his horse. "I leave the foreigner in your capable hands, Fa Mulan."
Owen raised an eyebrow at that as the man left, but he dismounted and looked at who was evidently Mulan. "It is a great honor to meet you," he said, doing a half-bow as he had been instructed before. "My name is Owen Burnett, and I hope that this is a fruitful meeting for all of us."
Mulan sighed with relief when she saw the small group of galloping horses approaching the Juyong Checkpoint – only aware that it had been audible when the guard who had averted his gaze before looked back to her, earning him another sheepish grin. Then, battling the slight blush that had risen on her cheeks, she made her way down the stone incline that lead to the front of the barracks, meeting the head of the small convoy - a young man who bowed his head with respect and simply explained he would be leaving the escorted party in her care. She nodded, repeating the line she found herself speaking numerous times daily. “The Emperor thanks you for your service.”
And with that, the guide turned his horse and was gone, leaving Mulan and the blonde foreigner, who dismounted his own steed and approached. He bowed, introducing himself – and the Emperor's envoy nearly sighed with relief once more. She had scribed his name on her arm when told to meet the traveller, though had no idea of the pronunciation. Bowing in response, she forced herself to do so only once, not wishing to appear too thankful. Then, straightening up, it was her turn to offer an introduction.
“I am Fa Mulan, Imperial Envoy and...” It wasn't that she'd forgotten what she had to say, its that she felt foolish saying it. The Emperor's advisors had crafted her title, and had insisted that 'Heroine of China' made her sound grand and imposing, a reminder to new acquaintances that she was a force to be reckoned with. It didn't anywhere mention 'beating an army of Hun invaders through sheer dumb luck.' She chose to leave it out. “And I am here to welcome you to the Jade Empire of the Dragon.” That was, after all, the more common name of the land they inhabited – at least in Rohandor.
“I hope your journey was...” Pausing, she considered what best to say. Pleasant? It didn't seem quite enough. Brilliant? Perhaps too much. She ended up picking neither and blurting out “Nice”, which she winced inwardly at. Gesturing toward the open gates of the checkpoint, she moved things quickly along. “We should start travelling, if you aren't too tired? The sooner we reach Imperial City, the sooner you can meet with the Emperor.”
That was, after all, the purpose of his visit. He didn't want to waste days on a road – and nor did she. At least, not when she had to act in a manner that wouldn't completely dishonour her Emperor.

Owen took in the young woman as she introduced herself. He already knew, to an extent, who she was; he had been informed that she would be his escort to the Imperial City, and his previous companion had spun a grand tale of her exploits when he'd asked for more information. She had stolen her father's armor to take his place in a war against a Hun leader named Shan Yu. Despite the risks involved in such a gambit, she managed to succeed in defeating him, saving the emperor's life in the process.
Yet she couldn't have been more than 20, he thought to himself. Quite remarkable, really. "I've heard a great many things about you," he said. "If all of it is true, I suspect there will be no safer place in the Jade Empire than being at your side, Fa Mulan."
He shrugged at the next part of her query. "It was pleasant enough. Your lands are as beautiful as they are vast, so there was little to be bored with in terms of scenery." He glanced up at the Great Wall. "It seems that will be a trend in my visit."
Owen adjusted his glasses. "Yes, I believe we should get under way as soon as possible despite the hour. I imagine we can camp for the night along the way." He didn't necessarily get tired himself, but he knew how to simulate it well enough, and his companions undoubtedly would need rest.
He rolled up his other sleeve to reveal his stone hand, rocky texture covering it and the upper wrist. "I did encounter some difficulties with my...handicap on the way. I don't suppose you could assist with that?" In truth, this was more of a test, he thought as he eyed her carefully. He wanted to see just how clever this Mulan really was.
Mulan could only wince inwardly when the visiting dignitary suggested he'd heard of her exploits, and quickly dropped her gaze to her feet. It seemed most of China knew about the great skill with which she conquered the Hun armies – though it also seemed that most of what they knew was simply exaggerated fact, tall tales that didn't quite paint the true picture. She was honoured, of course, by their reverence, but also deeply uncomfortable, unsure that she could ever live up to her own legend.
Choosing to ignore Owen's kind words about her, she instead turned and began leading him toward the Juyong Pass – heading toward the centre of the barracks. Beyond, horses waited, as too did further guards – numbers to better fortify the escort. As they moved, the royal guest made comments about the land and the wall – both of which Mulan only half heard, her mind wandering, thinking ahead to their journey – of the safest routes, and following his agreement to setting off straight away, a place to camp when the night drew in. She murmured responses, so as not to be insensitive, but her attention was only drawn back to him when the word handicap was mentioned, and an arm was thrust before her.
Blinking and drawing to an abrupt halt, she looked down to it, her head tilting. In the place of skin was rock – a hand formed yes, but as though it was chiselled from stone. Glancing back to his face, her eye brows rose sharply. Then, she flicked her gaze between face and hand a few more times, as if to check she wasn't imagining what she saw. “Is...what...?” she started – blurting out words that corresponded with queries in her head, without thinking of a better way to phrase them. Indeed, there were many others she could have continued with - chief among them were 'how?!' and 'why?!' - but she stopped herself, remembering the etiquette her parents had hoped to instil in her.
“I can organise a carriage if holding a horse's reigns is too difficult?” That, after all, was Mulan's first thought upon seeing his affliction and the use of the word 'difficulties.' She knew how hard it was to control a horse with only one's legs, and she wasn't sure if a hand formed of rock would be able to move. She most certainly assumed not - but then she'd never met anyone suffering from petrification.

A slight smirk made its onto his face as Mulan looked at her feet as he offered the praise; clearly this was a modest woman, unused to heroism but one who rose to it naturally. He idly wondered what might happen if she were to meet Detective Maza; undoubtedly they would get along to one degree or another.
He followed her into the barracks as she muttered short responses to his comments. Another observation: she was driven and focused when set to a task. Good. It would not do to be escorted by one prone to distractions.
Although she had about the reaction he expected when seeing his stone hand: shock. "Let's just say that one should be very careful when dealing with magic as an occupational hazard," he deadpanned, tapping against the stone with one finger. "I am nothing if not a devoted servant of my employer, but that can lead to....problems on occasion."
He considered the idea of a carriage. "That would be amenable," he agreed. "I presume you're using them to transport things such as supplies and weaponry. I could simply travel in one of those if need be."
Indeed, it would be safer to keep himself and his own cargo in such a transport. Riding out openly might attract too much attention. "I am ready to depart whenever you are, Fa Mulan."
