Participating Characters:Megara , Fa Mulan Forum Location: Isle of the Mountain > Amethyst Kingdom of Ambrosia > Other Locations Time of Day: Midmorning Weather: Sunny Thread Location: Grecian countrysides Premise: With Hercules on other business, Meg has had to turn to other heroes to deal with a mythic menace terrorizing the countryside.
Megara had hoped nothing would come of it, when she'd agreed to mind Hercules's manor while the demigod went off to deal with some menace or another. Hero work had been drawing him away more and more frequently, lately. She guessed that made sense, with the Forever Stone's failing...
Guilt and a paranoid fear spiked through her gut at the thought.
Dark thoughts were what occupied Megara's mind while she sifted listlessly over several news and gossip scrolls that had arrived that morning. Her brooding was interrupted by a young man who stumbled onto the grounds looking half-dead. Megara brought him inside and when he regained his breath enough, he explained that some unknown menace was stealing livestock and destroying farms and livelihoods in the distant countryside.
Inwardly, Megara spent the whole discussion turning over the question of: could this wait until wonder boy came back? The haunted look in the young man's eyes answered that for her, though. "I'll handle it," she said sternly to him. "But is it true? On my way here people said that Hercules was spotted flying off of the Isle at dawn." Megara pursed her lips, thinking of the fangirls and paparazzi watching Herc's place like locusts who likely noticed his departure.
Nickering of a horse drew Meg's eyes to the front grounds of the manor and her troubled shoulders lightened. "Don't worry about it," Meg said in a languid, casual tone. "But without Hercule-" Propping her free hand on her bony hip, Meg interrupted, saying, "Outsourcing. I've got someone just as qualified lined up." Her violet gaze fell upon the warrior on horseback that had just come into view.
Why Fa Mulan was paying an unexpected visit, Megara had no idea, but she silently thanked any of Hercules's family that was listening for such luck.
Khan's hooves pounded the ground beneath her as she sped through the sprawling lands of Ambrosia toward her destination, the mid-morning sun beating down on the back of her neck, causing her to sweat a little beneath the padded layers of her armour. Her long dark hair was pulled back, as if often was, into a small bun, though a few loose strands clung to her damp forehead. On her hip was strapped her father's sword, her weapon of choice, though a bow and a quiver of arrows could be seen attached to her warhorse's saddle. She hoped neither would be needed, but it was better to be prepared than not. She'd learnt that the hard way. After all, it wasn't every day Fa Mulan ran the risk of coming face to face with a dragon - at least, one far bigger and far more dangerous than Mushu – and she wasn't exactly sure how best to combat one.
The dragon was the reason she had left the walled Empire of the Dragon – galloping into lands she didn't often venture. Word of the beast had spread about the Imperial Court, and while initially believed a rumour; sightings of the creature had increased ten-fold. Sending out the armies of the Emperor, the scaled myth's existence had been verified, and it had been seen riding the winds, sinuously slithering through the sky like a snake on land, to destinations beyond the Great Wall.
While that potentially left the Jade Empire safe, at least until its return, the other kingdoms found on the Isle of the Mountain were at risk. And that was something Mulan couldn't have. Though she didn't know the first thing about battling dragons, she had heard word of a hero whose fame and fortune thrived on the killing of monsters. If anyone in the Isle of the Mountain could help ensure the safety of its Kingdoms, it was the man known as Hercules.
As such, she had set forth as soon as she could, Mulan only a day or so behind the dragon. Armed and armoured (in case it should cross her path and deem her a meal – not that she had any idea if her sword and armour would actually aid her), she had travelled quickly through the Kingdom of Ambrosia, following the directions of Hercules' adoring public to the place he called home – a large homestead in the heart of the Kingdom.
Turning the warhorse between two pillars, through which the worn path she travelled led, Mulan's eyes fell upon a large manor, palatial in size – no doubt the home of the hero, the impressive columns marking the boundaries of his land. Her pace didn't slow as she continued on, and speeding toward the stone structure, she was so focussed on the building that she only caught sight of the two figures outside it when she was much closer. Forced to pull Khan to a short stop – or indeed trample them both underhoof – the great horse whinnied as he skidded to a halt, before his face set in a petulant pout – only a meter or so away from a rather tired looking man.
Smiling sheepishly, Mulan looked between the pair. “Uh....” she started a little awkwardly, “I'm looking for a local...goes by Hercules. Have either of you seen him?” She paused for a long moment, then pointed at the building beyond. “I was...just told that this was his home.” Knowing her luck - it wasn't.

Odds were Meg wouldn't have even begun to recognize the stranger, if she'd been wearing anything else. As it was, Fa Mulan popped up dressed exactly as she was in any painting or drawing that Megara had seen of her since ancient Greece was dumped into Rohandor. Armor, horse, sword and all. Phil had made heroism his life's work, so it wasn't exactly surprising that he'd done his fair share of homework on known heroes in this new world.
Mulan was one of the most celebrated.
Megara's look of relief was marred when she noted the speed that the horse carrying Mulan was going. One brow quirked, turning her expression wary. Surely she saw Meg and the young man standing there? The Greek raised a hand to try to make them obvious, just in case. Mulan's horse ground to a stop just short of Megara and the farm boy.
Meg looked up in narrow, but not unkind, scrutiny as Mulan peered around her horse's neck at them, looking apologetic. When Mulan explained she was there looking for Hercules, the young man with them dissolved into despair. "See?! We need Hercules! Everyone nee-" Megara held up a finger. Something about the gesture compared with the sickly sweetness curling Meg's lips silenced the young man.
"Go inside. Sit down. Deep breaths. Be quiet." The young man debated arguing, then his shoulders fell and he slumped inside. Turning back to Mulan, Megara smiled more widely in a lame, flat attempt at being genial and, y'know... welcoming. "This is Herc's home all right, but I'm afraid you just missed him. I'm watching over the man cave while he's off punching sea monsters or whatever it is he does."
"Name's Meg," she said and extended a hand for Mulan to shake. Then delicately asked, "And you are?" Megara was almost entirely convinced she'd put the right name to the right face but she needed to be absolutely sure before she could carry on.
Mulan winced as her mention of Hercules caused the tired-looking man only feet from Khan's face to dissolve into hysterics, despair clear as he flailed and gesticulated at a tall, thin woman next to him – who looked far from impressed at the display. The Chinese heroine chewed her lip awkwardly, and flashed another apologetic look toward the female, silently sorry for having spoken words that were clearly more contentious than she'd predicted.
Quickly tired of the theatrics, the other female, in Grecian dress, raised a finger, cutting his rant off. She smiled a sickly sweet smile - an expression that looked like it was meant to be calming but lacked in any sort of comfort, more terse than gentle – and ordered him to go inside in a clipped, no-nonsense manner. Then, she turned toward Mulan, who found herself sitting up straighter in her saddle, squaring her shoulders and bringing herself to attention, not wishing to be the focus for the other woman's uncompromising tone – one that would have put half the army generals she'd worked with to shame.
Luckily, the purple-clad female smiled, confirming Mulan had indeed arrived at Hercules' residence, but went on to say he was away from home. She then introduced herself, holding out a hand toward the armour-clad warrior. Letting her shoulders sag a little, releasing a breath she didn't know she'd been holding, she took Meg's hand in her own, held it gently, and bowed her head in a universal sign of respect. “Fa Mulan,” she offered in return, before raising her gaze to meet the other woman's. “You don't know when he's meant to be back, do you?” She tried a hopeful grin, though for some reason, Mulan felt as though she already knew the answer – Meg had no clue when Hercules would be returning to his homestead.

The armor-clad woman took Meg's offered hand and bowed toward it. She didn't know how rare it was for the Greek to invite physical contact with another to begin with. Under the circumstances, and given where Megara thought this interaction was going to go, she thought that taking that extra measure couldn't hurt. Then the stranger gave her name, and Meg could've sighed in relief, though she didn't.
Megara tamped down on her anxiousness to press forward. Whatever was terrorizing the Grecian countryside needed to be dealt with, and every moment wasted could be another life ruined, but she needed to be courteous. The other woman looked uncomfortable at Meg's answer about Hercules's whereabouts, and asked timidly when he'd be back.
For the first time Megara's air of nonchalance and ease wavered. She frowned and propped one hand on her hip in thought. "Sorry, no," she said. Looking up to Mulan she took a breath through her nose to brace herself. "I wish he were here, though. Wonder boy's got killer timing," she muttered, rubbing the back of her neck with her free hand. She hated asking favors.
"Look, I've heard about you - most of Rohandor has, I'd wager. I know you're used to the whole life-saving, protecting-the-innocent, hero thing, right? I was wondering if... you'd possibly be willing to help me deal with something that's come up since Herc left?" Meg was practically wincing by the end of it.
