Within the courtyard of Castle Wyvern, there was a slightly denser patch of shadow in a particular corner. Up above, atop the tallest pinnacle of the ancient structure, two figures were visible, their silhouettes cast against the foggy gleam of city light on misty skies. They were in poetic contrast with one another; one slight and careful, if a bit uncertain in their demeanor; the other mighty, majestic and quite purposeful in all that he appeared to do. At last, after an apparent break between the two, the smaller figure embraced the larger around the neck, then they departed. That greater shade launched from the tower, mighty wings spread from its back and it soared away. Meanwhile, the miniature shadow lingered, staring on, until it finally disappeared from view.
Down below, in the courtyard that looked up toward the height, that denser patch of darkness shifted. Slowly, it strode forward, and as the moon, city and starlight glanced across the shape, it was identified bit-by-bit. Legs executing a guileful strut, velvet tread mute as well as nimble; a torso and arms covered in a red, long-sleeved blouse. Finally a face was about to be illuminated, and the moment before it could be two eyes caught the glare of New York cast on the sky, shining from the dimness in an unnerving and primal way. At the last Fox was revealed, a cunning smirk crookedly poised on her red lips and a mischief in her eyes.
"Trouble in paradise?" she questioned herself. "How... intriguing."
------
Things had been arranged very easily. Owen was more than happy to watch after Alexander as morning came. Fox advised that they not carry on with their lessons in her absence; insisted, really. She trusted Puck more than she trusted any of Oberon's folk, but magic as a whole wasn't her favorite thing. She understood its benefits, but was much more confident trusting in the strength of her limbs, the perseverance of her spirit and guile of her intellect. Magic had a tendency to warp Fox's comfort zone of realism, if not shirk their bonds entirely. Besides, this was Alexander. She could never be too careful. Even if Puck's... flamboyance was hardly directed by her presence.
Meanwhile, Fox put on a simple outfit: white capris, black flats and a teal, short-sleeved shirt that matched the hue of her tattoo. She wound her hair in a simple braid and departed in one of the Xanatos' myriad cars. Having a driver, and lounging in the back of a sedan, or limousine was agreeable to Fox on many occasions. There were still often times that she preferred to control the vehicle herself, though, especially on errands that did not have anything to do with David, or the company. That was certainly the case that morning.
The sun had been climbing above the horizon for little more than a half-hour when Fox pulled up to the curb of an apartment building. She looked over the rim of her sunglasses in vague interest as she killed the engine. "Quaint." Fox slipped out of the convertible and into the building, whereupon she ascended to the top floor and the appropriate unit that waited there. She was very aware of what a possible inconvenience she was going to be for the subject of her visit. In all honesty (and Fox may have even felt the teeniest bit guilty over it), that thought just made her more smug.
Fox paused before that door and rapped on it. She knew better than to leave it at a simple three knocks. The woman who lived in the apartment was quite stubborn, and Fox had a feeling that she wouldn't want to answer at first. So, she kept on rapping. Not loudly or roughly, but insistantly. All the while a smile was worn on her careful lips.

To sum up? It hadn’t been a good night.
On one hand Elisa had been indescribably grateful for the busy night she and her partner had. Maybe it was the easy way to avoid her problems but the continuous stream of calls and assignments that kept her from having to actually process her feelings about what happened with Goliath at the beginning of her evening was exceptionally welcome.
On the other hand the busy night she and her partner had kept her from having to actually process her feelings about what happened with Goliath. Elisa wasn’t one who was very good at expressing or experiencing her feelings and emotions, especially when it came to Goliath. The fact of the matter was that she already knew what her options were. She also knew that no matter which path she took, she would be unhappy on some level.
Ultimately Elisa needed to decide what was most important to her and make a decision, which sounded significantly easier than it actually was. She didn’t want to hurt Goliath or lose what they had but they’d reached a point in their… situation where they were sitting parked in neutral. They either had to put their… situation into drive …or reverse. Both options terrified the cop more than any criminal or on the job situation she’d ever had to deal with. Including falling off the top of the Eyrie building.
Bed had been everything she’d wanted and more when she’d returned home. The sun was down as usual and Elisa knew she only had precious minutes before the sun rose. Sometimes she spent it with Goliath and the Clan, watching them fall into their stone sleep but between her busy night and her conversation with Goliath, she’d decided with how physically and emotionally exhausted she felt it was better to just head home for sleep. She barely managed to change out of her clothes and fall onto the bed before she fell asleep.
“…Not. Happening.” She groaned to herself a la Sandra Bullock from Ms. Congeniality when she heard knocking on her apartment door what seemed like mere moments after falling asleep. She rolled over not bothering to open her eyes. Whoever it was, they could come back later. Elisa tried putting her head under her pillow and when that didn’t work to knock out the insistent knocking, she tried jamming it around her head and pressing it over her ears like some bizarre set of headphones.
Unfortunately she couldn’t maintain the position while trying to fall back to sleep and groaned loudly as she literally rolled to the side of the bed and let her feet slide limply over the edge like some sort of rag doll. Whoever was knocking was persistent to say the least. Sliding her feet into her fluffy slippers, she headed over to the door in her drawstring pajama pants and tank like a petulant child, arms flopping at her sides and head thrown back in a pout. She was certain she couldn’t have been asleep for more than a few hours.
She glanced through the peep hole ready to walk away from the door and head back to bed, paused as she processed what she saw there, then looked again. She pulled the door open and though she was more than a little surprised to see Fox on the other side, still trying to blink away the brightness of the late morning, she couldn’t stop the first thing out of her mouth from being, “You know I work the night shift, right?”

Initially there was no noticeable response from within Elisa Maza's apartment. No matter. To call Fox persistent was putting it mildly, and she was entirely content continuing her rhythm of rapped knuckles on the door until it was answered. Fox tended to get what she wanted through perseverance, dedication and no short amount of guile. While having a door answered was hardly the most difficult challenge of her career, she approached it in the same exact manner that she would any other obstacle or objective; relentlessly. The seconds wore on and Fox continued that steady knock on the door while she counted them as a way to keep herself entertained. She tried to guess on what number Elisa would finally answer the door.
Thirty-six, it turned out to be. Fox heard the creak of floorboards on the other side of the portal, but did not cease her action. She kept going until the door was pulled open entirely, whereupon she took to propping her hands on her hips instead. Elisa Maza was framed in the doorway looking slightly better than death in her sleep clothes. Sunlight streamed through the slanted glass outer wall of her living area, gilding her bedhead in gold and making her eyes look even more sunken. Fox raised one ginger brow at the question that was posed to her in a greeting's stead. She knew that it was rhetorical, and she knew what purpose it served; to not-so-subtly hint at Elisa's displeasure at being roused.
Fox smiled. "Give me some credit, Ms Maza," she said silkily. She recognized the obvious train of thought: if she knew that, why wake Elisa so early, when she was bound to be trying to sleep? Recognizing it only made Fox a little more content inwardly. She tried not to appear as smug on the outside (though it was always hard, considering she looked smug all the time). Fox might not have cared deeply what Elisa thought of her, but she had a particular morning in mind, and that particular morning required the policewoman in some level of compliance. Fox couldn't offend Elisa enough that she outright refused to play along - that would have wasted her whole morning.
There were so many comments that were on the tip of Fox's tongue, pleading to be said; "Oh, were you sleeping?" and "Rough night?" chief among them. She showed self-restraint, though. Contrary to what many may believe, Fox actually enjoyed Elisa. The policewoman was admirable in her tenacity, courage and skills. Even if her rigid morality weren't to Fox's tastes. Altogether since Alexander's birth though, Fox had been realizing that her formerly cold demeanor was softening. What the ginger-haired woman was the most surprised with was how she didn't mind the softening up. Alexander was the culprit, really, and that made it all right by Fox's book.
She had been much more amiable with the Manhattan Clan since their return to the Eyrie Building, and was even trying to make amends with them. There were a few hints of ulterior motives in Fox's actions and playing nice (having a whole clan of gargoyles to protect her baby wasn't a bad prospect), but none of them were as large as the simple desire on Fox's part to let her anger and cruelty go. She was a mother now, and Alexander had already taught Fox that more tender emotions weren't the weakness she once believed them to be, but could be an invaluable strength.
Elisa and the gargoyles were a package deal. Current circumstances aside. Fox had been meaning to try to extend a peaceful hand to the woman for a while now. Even though her curiosity at what she'd witnessed atop Castle Wyvern several hours before gave Fox the final push she needed, this whole thing was premeditated. There were a lot of options for what Fox could say next, but she knew that many of them would earn her nothing but a door slammed soundly in her face. With that in mind, Fox decided for the blunt approach. Elisa wasn't in a gaming mood, sadly, and Fox stating her cause for visiting would at least get her an answer smoothly. Not that Elisa would have an easy time refusing.

There was a moment in which all Elisa could do was blink as she processed Fox’s words.
“Fox…” Elisa began carefully, trying to push the sleepy fog from her mind, uncertain how to proceed. She and Fox weren't what she would describe as 'friends' by any stretch of the imagination. She didn't trust the other woman any more than she trusted Xanatos- Which wasn't really at all. She would forever have to bear a begrudging gratefulness to both of them for arriving just in time to rescue Goliath and the others when they had no other way to elude capture. They had been able to offer help when Elisa could not.
That didn’t mean that all the sins of their past had been wiped away. Xanatos claimed that there was a truce between them because of what they had done to protect his son. Elisa didn’t have children, and didn’t know for certain that she ever would, but she couldn’t quite believe that the gratitude even for that would be able to keep Xanatos from his natural inclination to learn and advance. Regardless of whether he decided to keep his word, which in his defense he had up to this point, Fox hadn’t made any such promises. She seemed like one to always have her own agenda. Probably one of the reasons she and Xanatos hit it off so well.
No matter how hard she wracked her brain however, she couldn’t think of any reason that Fox might have shown up on her doorstep to ask her out to eat. She had to have some sort of ulterior motive, didn’t she?
“That’s very… I mean it sounds like…” Elisa fumbled for words and then shifted her weight as she shoved the rest of her tired haze away. “I’m sorry, why?” She asked finally, propping her arm up on the door, legitimately curious and figuring the best way to find out was to ask the obvious question.

Elisa was ever so confused. Fox could read people well in the worst of times, and with someone such as Ms Maza - who she not only knew over the long term, but who was much too brazen (and tired besides) to put on any farce - it wasn't even a question of skill. Fox watched frustration, exhaustion and flummoxed intrigue skirt after one another across her olive features... and she would not lie: she was immensely pleased with how things were going forward. Even if her choice to initiate this little meeting was founded on a goal that wasn't entirely mischievous, she could enjoy herself on the way, couldn't she?
Fox did a good job, she felt, of not allowing her demeanor to shift anymore toward the content. There was still that fine line between playing with Elisa and inflaming her pride. Fox had a goal, after all, and making Ms Maza rightly sour could lead to failure. Failure, for Fox, was not an option. Usually she was more confident in her room for doing what she wanted and still getting what she desired at the end of it. While Fox had several ploys in mind for if Elisa tried to adamantly refuse, the truth was that she didn't want to try to test any of their merit. Elisa was a woman who made up her mind and stuck with her decision. Under other circumstances, Fox admired that trait - few ever possessed it. When that aspect of Elisa could potentially ruin Fox's plans, however, she did not feel fondly toward it.
After her proposal made it entirely through the veil of sleep that Elisa was still striving to shred, Fox could see it plain as day on the drowsy woman's face. She was thinking, and thinking hard, as to how Fox could be using this brunch to her benefit. Elisa wasn't wrong. Fox wouldn't have been trying to organize this event if she didn't think it was worth her while. The benefit of it was, simply put, of a less sinister nature than average. True to form, Elisa decided quickly enough to forego all imagined niceties and get to the point. Whether the choice was manifested from her longing to return to her bed, or her personality alone, Fox didn't know. Likely a cocktail of the two.
"Quite honestly?" Fox asked. Elisa was shooing away any smoke and mirrors about this meeting, so Fox would do the same... To an extent. "I admire you." Fox let that hang in the air for a moment, then tilted her head and added, "Or, at least, certain traits you possess." She pressed smoothly onward. "With our winged friends roosting in my attic, we're bound to be running into one another quite a bit over the foreseeable future. I thought that at least we could try to tolerate one another, if nothing else. I would like to come out on the other side of this as... acquaintances." The word 'friend' not only sounded wrong in Fox's head, but she knew that if she used it, it would be so out of character for her that it would fire off warning flares in Elisa's head and dissuade her from believing that Fox was being genuine.

Elisa found herself staring blankly at Fox in response to the woman's logical conclusions and subsequent appeal here and now, scrutinizing her visitor's features and replaying her words over and over looking for some sort of hidden meaning or purpose. Maybe it was the exhaustion settling in or something equally reasonable to explain her own conclusion but the detective didn't perceive anything underlying or untoward in the request. It was mildly baffling to Elisa.
Having established that Fox seemed genuine in her motives she now had to decide whether or not she was going to go along with this outrageous plan. The idea of sitting at a table calmly discussing the weather over tea and biscuits seemed even more fantastical than the idea that gargoyles existed- among all the other crazy stuff they'd come across over the years. Mostly she just wanted to go back to bed. She could feel her body floating in that strange overtired feeling where nothing seemed real. Maybe she actually was dreaming in which case she was going to have very strong words with her subconscious.
Impulsively Elisa pushed the apartment door open to allow Fox entry and let out a sharp breath, "Come on in, I gotta change." Change, and make sure to leave a note for Goliath and the others should she mysteriously go missing after this encounter. She went into her room and shed her pajamas and began pulling on a pair of jeans and plain t-shirt all the while trying to rationalize why she was going out and not back to bed.
The truth was, Fox was right. Given the current circumstances they were probably going to be spending a lot of time together. As much as she hated the idea of owing the Xanatos family anything, they currently provided the only safe haven for her friends. She knew Goliath and the others were overjoyed to be back in their ancestral home and she wouldn't taint that by causing unnecessary problems for them by creating a rift between herself and Fox which would undoubtedly put her and Xanatos at odds as well.
And there was that old adage about keeping your enemies closer.
"Where's Alex?" Elisa asked as she came out of her bedroom. After everything they'd gone through to protect the little guy it was a wonder Fox ever let him out of her sight. She picked up her wallet off the counter and made sure it contained all the necessaries before stuffing it into her back pocket then began looking for her jacket.

Ms Maza was not as easily manipulated as most people, by Fox's standards. Which was intriguing, really, because a blunt approach and forward exterior such as hers were generally qualities that made for easy prey to mislead. Elisa was a riddle, and maybe that's why she had earned Fox's admiration. Because her previous statement saying as much wasn't false. There were elements of Elisa that Fox well and truly admired. Not envied; admired. All of those fussy morally centered bits looked flattering on Ms Maza, but Fox didn't think that they'd suit herself.
Considering this, it was hard for Fox to admit that she wasn't entirely sure which way this encounter would develop. If she had her way - which was more often than not, and which luck had nothing to do with - they would have brunch, as planned. Fox just simply did not know if Elisa would suffer through accepting the invitation. Suffer, surely. Fox had no delusions when it came to the woman before her, or their relationship at present. Elisa would not want to be Fox's company. And Ms Maza rarely did what she did not want to do.
When Elisa pushed the door open, Fox inclined a brow and smiled in satisfied surprise. Well. This was unexpected. Even had the woman acquiesced to her proposal, Fox had anticipated the door being shut on her, and she having to loiter in the hall until her impromptu date was suitably dressed. Being invited into Elisa's apartment was surprisingly polite of her. Maybe there was a chance that things could come out all right at the end of all this, after all?
"You have surprisingly good taste, all things considered, Elisa." Fox's cunning gaze swept over the apartment as Ms Maza excused herself to her bedroom to change. Fox knew that her comment wasn't entirely a compliment, but giving one without some hint of judgment was against her nature. Her upbringing aside, Fox wasn't glamorous, or glitzy. She didn't delight in the "finer things" or like to flaunt money in the way that others might. Scion of a wealthy family, and wife of an even more wealthy one, and she still wore simple, practical clothes, as an example. Besides which, after Fox's time in a prison cell, it took some doing for things to look rightfully drab by her standards.
Fox didn't snoop. She wandered a little through the living area, taking stock of all around her, and ended up standing before Elisa's outer slanted windows. The view was quite lovely. Nothing compared to those at the Eyrie Building, but that was an unfair precedent. Elisa's reemergence came with a question. Fox looked at the other woman's faint reflection in the glass for a moment, then turned toward her. "Owen is watching him." Fox's casual air turned ever so dangerous. She held up her arm, and on the face of her watch an image appeared of a security camera, showing her son and his sitter. "And I am watching Owen."

Elisa didn't think she had the patience for an entire meal full of backhanded comments. She hoped that Fox got it out of her system now. Then again maybe she didn't even know it was backhanded seeing as she lived in Xanatos land now. She and David probably barely spent any time discussing the common riff raff and if they did they probably commended them for the small victories like having 'good taste' despite their disadvantages. How generous and charitable of them to spare a thought for the less fortunate.
Elisa pulled the door to her apartment open again and swept a hand towards the opening, "After you."
She called a goodbye to Cagney then locked up, testing the door to make sure it was actually locked, and followed Fox down the stairs and out through the front of the building. There was a very expensive looking convertible parked out front and Elisa could only assume it was Fox's transportation. She was a little surprised to see that there wasn't a limo or a car that had a driver. Didn't all of their cars like, come with chauffeurs? Then again, Elisa didn't think that she'd be able to pass up an opportunity to drive a fine vehicle like this.
"Nice ride. Where're we goin' anyway? I'm not usually awake early enough for any sort of 'brunch.' I don't remember what most breakfast foods taste like."

Fox could sense that she was already grating on Elisa's patience. The very nature of her unexpected visit was bound to have evaporated a good deal of it by default. For the moment, Fox pretended to be quite unaware of this, though. Albeit she couldn't keep a soft smile from skewing her lips, or a green light from her eyes. Even so, Fox was intent on staying as aware of Elisa's tolerance over their spontaneous brunch together as her skills allowed. She liked to push the policewoman's buttons, but the aim of this morning was not to drive Elisa away. Fox needed to ensure that she stopped short of her company's breaking point.
Considering that Fox knew her mere presence and natural attitude would chip away at Elisa's willingness to go along with the brunch, she would have to pay careful attention so that she didn't purposefully help things along.
Elisa opened the door and instructed her through. Fox inclined a brow in something like bemused gratitude - something like it - and did as she was bidden. Once through the portal Fox waited for Elisa to bid her pet farewell and to lock the door to the apartment behind her. They made it to outside and to the curb without a word spoken to one another but the silence wasn't altogether unpleasant. Fox was fine with the absence of conversation, and Elisa would most likely have to marshal willpower to start each and every sentence over the course of their date.
Fox crossed her arms over her chest and eyed Elisa with thoughtful mischief. She knew enough of the policewoman to realize she had a fondness for cars specifically. Something of a family trait, Fox though, with Ms Maza's brother having been David's pilot briefly. After a moment more pondering it, Fox tossed the keys to Elisa and lowered into the passenger seat. "Wait until you feel how it handles," she said slyly in continuation of the other woman's compliment of the vehicle. Fox slipped her sunglasses from where they had been clipped to her shirt collar and put them on her nose. "Isn't there a diner several blocks away?" Fox spoke absently, then turned to smile vaguely at Elisa. "Would that work?"

The surprise of the car keys flying in her direction was almost enough to shake her out of her hazy half awake state. Even as she was trying to process the idea that Fox was going to let her drive this beautiful example of expert engineering, she felt her cop 'sleep deprivation' mode kicking in as her body adjusted to the idea that it wouldn't actually be getting any rest in the immediate future.
The cop pressed the button that unlocked the car and made her way around to the driver's side. Maybe she should have turned Fox down. She was definitely a brave woman to allow Elisa to drive her car for various reasons. In reality though, with the amount of money Xanatos possessed, it was pretty likely that Fox had a different car to go with each of her outfits. Most women had a closet full of shoes, Fox probably had her own garage full of fancy cars.
"Sounds good to me." Elisa told her climbing into the car and settling into the drivers seat. Elisa was too tired to make any kind of a decision. That in itself probably should have been enough to warrant turning around, heading back up to her apartment, and going back to bed. Facing an enemy, or former enemy, or whatever Fox was to her now, when you weren't completely in control of your own faculties wasn't exactly the greatest strategy. But then Fox claimed she had come in peace and in the interest of keeping the peace between The Clan and the Xanatos family, Elisa had little choice but carry on with her attempt to play nice.
"As long as they serve coffee I am all over it." She emphasized her consent with a sweep of her hand. She went about adjusting the mirrors which she was surprised to find she didn't have to adjust much which was both a relief and also scratched a little under the skin for some reason.
After Fox was settled Elisa carefully pulled out and headed down the road to where she assumed Fox was referring. She was driving very carefully and making sure she followed all the driving rules. Not only was she tired, but the last thing she needed was Matt or one of her other cop buddies pulling her over for doing something stupid and finding her driving Fox around. There were so many reasons she would never hear the end of that little scenario.

"Diner it is," Fox said with a slight upward flick of her lips. The atmosphere between them as Detective Maza pulled into traffic probably wasn't ideal by most's standards. Considering that until somewhat recently the two women had been on opposite sides of a veritable war being secretly waged atop New York City's skyscrapers, Fox thought that it was going well enough.
She still took Elisa's consent to actually share a meal, just the two of them, as a victory in and of itself. Fox just had to monitor her own behavior in the meantime. She couldn't press too much or be too... herself. Though Fox's edges had been smoothed by Alexander, admittedly.
Soon they arrived at the diner in question. Fox surveyed the venue behind the anonymity of her sunglasses and, nostrils flaring in the slightest hint of probably disdainful thoughtfulness, she chose two swivel stools at the far end of the counter top rather than a booth. Settling into her seat, Fox again slipped the shades from her face and hanged them on her shirt collar.
"Two coffees," Fox said absently to a waitress who wandered nearby. She was, fortuitously, holding a half-full pot of the stuff and, producing two ceramic mugs from beneath the counter, filled them deftly and then strayed off to attend to other costumers for the time being. "I'm curious," she said in blatant way of bringing up something - anything - to talk about, "has Rohandor made your job as a detective easier or more difficult?"
There were infinite ways that their arrival in "New York Town" must have affected all involved. There were literal sorcerers and kings, queens, princesses, ancient civilizations and space pirates now commonplace among the varying isles. Fox knew just how much finagling had had to happen on David's part for the company to stay cohesive (and, typically, it came out on the other side more profitable for it thanks to her husband's devilish cunning). But she didn't rightly know how the move affected something like local law enforcement.
Obvious stab at ending the awkward silence beside them or not, it was a genuine point of curiosity for Fox.

The car was amazing. It was probably better that Elisa was tired and she had to focus more on the basic handling and maneuvering of driving. If she was more awake she might have made some rather poor decisions in attempting to mimic some of those “closed course” “professional driver” stunts that car commercials specifically said “do not attempt.” As it was she smoothly pulled into a spot close enough to the door that they wouldn’t have to walk half a block to get inside.
It was a nice place and Elisa made a note of it should she ever be awake and conscious again early enough to make it over here. It wasn’t some five star restaurant as she would have expected Fox to be accustomed to but then Elisa supposed that Fox wasn’t always Mrs. Xanatos and she must have had to eat prior to her nuptials.
Elisa took a seat beside Fox at the counter and was somewhat grateful that she wasn’t going to have to spend the whole meal staring at Fox and wondering if she should be making lots of eye contact or avoiding it. Which was the one that meant you weren’t showing fear to wild animals again? Ugh, she was so tired.
The coffee’s abrupt and welcome. Elisa would have told the waitress to just leave the pot if she’d been more quickly cognisant of her surroundings but as it was by the time she had the thought it the woman was off to another table. Elisa immediately brought the mug to her lips without bothering to add anything. The coffee was hot and nearly burned her lips and tongue but Elisa powered through it. Caffeine was going to be her very good friend for the next few hours.
The question was one that Elisa would not have expected from Fox but it was definitely one that gave Elisa some pause.
“I hadn’t really thought about it,” Elisa said finally before trying to ingest more of the “still a little too hot” coffee. “I guess there hasn’t been a huge change here specifically. Every time I see someone walking down the street in outdated clothes or some sort of futuristic thing flying around I have to remind myself that things are different. I’m probably dealing with the circumstances better than others but it’s still an adjustment. Crime hasn’t skyrocketed or anything but I guess we are a little bit busier with patrols and security since all this started. I mean, New York always was a melting pot for interesting characters,” Elisa noted.

Fox tested the heat of the coffee with her lips while Elisa began to answer. It was a hair too hot, so she thoughtfully thumbed through the ceramic vessel of sweeteners and accompanying dish of additives. Fox was mentally bracing herself. She was aware that having spent the majority of her recent time in the Eyrie Building, where everything was gourmet and sublime, would make this cup of coffee alone... a different experience.
Smug as she was with her expensive lifestyle, Fox wasn't a slave to it. She'd spent time behind bars, after all, and nothing yet (before or after) compared to the slop and living conditions she went through there. Fox selected a simple sugar packet and a cap of cream. Stirring the contents into her cup, Fox looked sidelong at Elisa, who was finishing her answer.
Hearing that the transition into Rohandor hadn't really had monumental ramifications in Elisa's line of work was interesting to Fox. She had gathered from her own research on the various Isles and then lengthy discussions with David that many denizens of Rohandor were content to remain in their homelands or realms. There were a fair share that were crossing borders and tourist trades had exploded and would continue to explode. Fox guessed that, just as in their former worlds few people had the time, funds or inclination to travel, that extended to Rohandor.
"I heard a statistic," Fox said, sipping her coffee, "that New York Town is among the top five hot spots for visitors in Rohandor." She neglected to mention those statistics were drawn up by Xanatos Enterprises for advertisement exploiting purposes. "Nice to see that some things don't change, even with this... move. The sky's still blue and New York still smells like a sewer."

Elisa hadn’t managed to get through much of her coffee yet but not for lack of trying. She blew on the hot liquid a few times and then tried again. Her tongue had started to tolerate the heat a little bit more but whether that was because the coffee was starting to cool or her mouth was just starting to go numb, there was no way to know. It amounted to the same result though and she took another sip. It tasted bitter and rather un-delicious in its black state, but sometimes the end justified the means and one had to endure trials for the greater good.
As Fox spoke Elisa directed her attention off toward the window for a moment and, as if on cue, a pack of anthropomorphic ducks went gaggling by. No matter how long she lived here in Rohandor, Elisa was never going to get used to that. There were still days when the idea of walking talking flying gargoyles still seemed fantastic at times. Elisa chuckled inaudibly, and directed her attention back to her companion, “Yeah. It’s still a little hard to believe sometimes.”
She took another mouthful of her coffee then paused, staring into her cup as though the remaining liquid might have some important revelation hidden near the bottom. Now that Elisa was thinking about it, things had been getting busier around the precinct, more random violence and petty crime, but whether that was because of the Forever Stone situation or something else entirely she didn’t know. Or maybe things were just a little busier because it was a Tuesday and she was just being paranoid. It was probably nothing. But now that the thought had entered her mind, Elisa couldn’t shake it. She had thought that there would be some big evil battles to signify that those freed from the stone were around. Something big that she would notice but... maybe things would start small. There was no way to know. Whether there was any truth to these thoughts or not, telling Fox and inadvertently Xanatos any “inside” information about the situation probably wasn’t wise anyway, truce or not.
“But I guess stranger things have happened.” Elisa noted, smirking slightly at present company. If someone had told her that she’d ever voluntarily be sharing a meal with Mrs. Xanatos, Elisa would have laughed in their face. “So tell me, Fox, Elisa observed in her dry humor almost as if to prove her point about strange occurrences, "How are things up in the ivory tower? Your husband get you anymore cursed jewelry lately?”
OOC: I rereading my previous responses it occurs to me that they didn’t really make sense/work. And that they were mostly awful. *sigh* Sorry I’m the worst. I’ll try to do better!

Elisa responded distractedly. Then her eyes turned toward the ceramic mug she was nursing and Fox saw the subtle change in her expression; in the focus of her gaze. Elisa was thinking about something, or many things. Whichever the case, they were making her more introspective than usual - Fox had a hard time reading Elisa, because the detective was so guarded in her company, so that she could detect the reverie at all emphasized its depth.
While Fox peered over her own cup as Elisa stared, dazed into her own, the redhead's eyes gleamed with an almost carnal cunning. She was very deeply curious what Elisa was thinking, and wished that she could know. Was it anything to do with the interaction that Fox had witnessed in secret atop the Eyrie Building so recently, which had spawned this whole unexpected breakfast date in the first place? Fox hoped so.
Then, quickly as it had come, the air of contemplation over Ms Maza folded closed. When Elisa looked back to Fox, she was staring distractedly at their surroundings, quite the opposite of the hungry stare she'd had a microsecond previously. "So tell me, Fox, how are things up in the ivory tower? Your husband get you anymore cursed jewelry lately?”
Fox's gaze flicked back to Elisa's. She lounged back in her seat and propped an arm up on the back of the booth while she smirked crookedly at her date. "Not yet, no," she answered silkily. "But otherwise Rohandor has greatly benefited from David's company. As strange, unexpected and ultimately helpful an arrangement as the one between our... families."
