Alice laughed more than ever at Peter's comment regarding the book. "That's just what I said," she informed him, marveling at discovering another point of similarity between them. "How is one ever supposed to imagine what's happening without an idea of what anything looks like?" she declared, with authoritative crossed arms, before obtaining the food for Peter.
Though he seemed to be inclined toward talking with his mouth full, Peter had some encouraging words for Alice on the subject of flying. "Faith, trust, and pixie dust? That shouldn't be difficult to remember at all." Rhymes are helpful like that! And after all the things she'd seen, she shouldn't have any trouble keeping up the faith and trust. As for happy thoughts, there were many possibilities for those. A lot of them involved Dinah. But this particular meeting seemed like it would become among the happiest memories of all.
Especially as Peter agreed to join her in Wonderland! "Thank you very much, Peter," she said happily. She then adopted a cautious tone as she continued. "I should warn you though... I won't exactly be welcome there. I've made the Queen very angry, and I'm afraid that she'll have my head cut off if she catches me in her lands again. Which is why I'm going to be going there in disguise. Mr. Basil of Baker Street helped me with some, but... You wouldn't happen to have any ideas for disguises yourself, would you?" It would always help to get a second opinion about such things, and Peter certainly seemed the adventurous sort- maybe he was the type who would know a good disguise.
Peter finished his sandwich and started in on his apple, smiling when Alice laughed. She talked a lot, but Peter liked her. He was looking forward to showing her Neverland. She was fascinated by nearly everything he said (as she should be) so he knew she would be impressed with his home. He could show her pixie hallow, mermaid lagoon, hangman's tree, the rainbow, the waterfall, skull rock… maybe even take her on treasure hunt or two. If everything worked out, maybe Alice would be the first Lost Girl.
But when she started talking about Wonderland again, Peter cocked his head to the side, listening curiously. "Not welcome there?" he repeated, wrinkling his nose, and then added, "Cut your head off!" He darted up and drew his little knife boldly, tossing it up and catching it again expertly before holding it to his heart. "Not with me around, she won't." He bowed, sweeping his hat off with his free hand. "I'll protect you, Alice. I'm not afraid of any Queens."
Dramatic display now complete, Peter sheathed his knife and straightened, returning his hat to his head. Then he looked down at her curiously.
"But what did you to do make her mad? And what's a… Basilofbakerstreet?"
She asked about disguises but Peter waited for her to answer his questions first before thinking about that. He had to wrap his mind around everything.
Alice was just as excited by Neverland. It seemed to be a magical place that was out-of-the-ordinary enough to be interesting, but not quite as chaotic as Wonderland was, at least as far as she knew. If the other inhabitants were anything like Peter, Alice thought she would probably feel right at home! She smiled appreciatively as Peter showed his bravery; though she was hoping to avoid violence, it was reassuring that he was so willing to defend her from danger. That was, from what she'd been told anyway, much of what boys were for, and at last she'd met one who actually lived up to that!
Peter next wanted to know about why the Queen was after her in the first place. "It wasn't anything I did," she insisted. "It was that troublemaking Cheshire Cat who made her angry, and then put the blame on me! ...and, well, she would get angry at pretty much anything that didn't go her way," she added. "It was mostly luck that I escaped. For a while I thought I'd dreamed the whole thing... but that's where Basil came in. He's a detective living on Baker Street... a mouse detective. And he told me he'd met a former resident of Wonderland as part of a criminal gang. So that's why I want to go back to Wonderland, to bring back proof that it's real and find out why I thought it was a dream in the first place. But I'd prefer to avoid violence, so... as I said, I was hoping to go in disguise," she concluded, finally getting the essentials of her task out of her system.

Alice seemed impressed by his heroism and Peter gradually floated back down to sit on the blanket with her. She began to explain about the Queen and Peter listened with an uncharacteristically high level of interest. So-- Someone else had done something bad and Alice was blamed for it. Peter was starting to see that Alice had trouble standing up for herself.
He was thinking on this when Alice told him Basil was a mouse detective. "That is a good job for a mouse," he mused aloud, "They're small, like fairies. But better at being quiet."
Alice explained her mission to return to Wonderland and get proof, while avoiding violence. This confirmed what Peter had suspected before-- Alice didn't want to fight. But then again, she was a girl. Boys fought. Girls… well, girls told stories.
"Me and the Lost Boys use disguises all the time. Sometimes we're pirates. Sometimes we're trees and bushes. Sometimes we're Indians." He rubbed his chin thoughtfully. "We should be something from Wonderland, so we don't look different from them. Then, they won't notice us."
The trouble was, Pan had never been to Wonderland. So he couldn't begin to guess what kind of disguise would help them fit in there.
Peter was right- a mouse would make a good detective, for human-sized cases at least. Maybe that was a reason why he was so interested in helping her- it was a break from the mouse-sized cases where he was at less of an advantage. He had after all, recently been captured by tiny criminals. It wouldn't be so easy for a human to catch a mouse spying on them- especially if they weren't expecting a mouse that could think like a person!
Peter explained his own use of disguises, which pleased Alice. He'd definitely be of assistance during the trip to Wonderland. "Oh, that will be easy. There's all kinds of things in Wonderland," Alice explained. "Most of them seemed to be animals of some sort, though they wore clothes and lived in houses... most of them anyway. There were also talking flowers... they weren't very nice. And playing cards. And even a few humans! So you see, there's not many things that wouldn't fit in. Basil already gave me a few suggestions, as I said. There was a very nice mouse costume... though I'll only be using that when I'm small enough to be a mouse, of course. I'll have to find one of those mushrooms or cookies that change my size first." Another one of those "you had to be there" details.

Peter Pan listened as Alice explained some of the characters one might find in Wonderland. Animals that wore clothes and slept in houses like people? Mean flowers? Playing cards? Alice wasn't making very much sense.
"When you're small enough to be a mouse?" Peter tilted his head, scoffing. "You have some pretty strange stories, Alice. But I believe you." Based on the conversation so far, Peter gathered that not many people did believe Alice, hence her quest to find proof of her adventure.
Peter lay back and stretched out on the blanket in the sun, tipping his hat to cover his eyes. "Sound's like the Queen's the one we gotta trick. And even if she catches on, we'll just fly away." He gave a cocky grin. "The Queen of Hearts can't fly, can she?" Actually, that gave him an idea. "Maybe we could disguise ourselves as birds. Then, because we can fly, they won't suspect anything else."
Peter was used to outsmarting pirates-- this couldn't be too different. Wonderland sounded like no land Peter had ever been to and he was looking forward to the adventure. Then, after that, he would take Alice to Neverland and show her his home.
