Character Name: Judy Hopps
Type of Creature: Anthropomorphic Rabbit
Rank: Force of Good
Movie/TV Series: Zootopia
Home Island: Isle of the Beast
Personality: Judy is and always has been a go-getter. From a young age, she knew exactly who she was and what she wanted to be; the type of person who longed to make the world a better place. She's always prepared to put in the hard-work required to get something done, approaching things head on and with a positive attitude. Some people might perceive her as a bit of an airhead because of her wishful thinking and idealist nature, but Judy just believes in making the world into the one you would want to live in.
A confident young lady, it's difficult to convince Judy that she can't do something. If she sets her mind to it, she will find a way to reach her end. Her laser focus can get her into trouble, however, when she fails to see the obvious obstacles in her way and doesn't properly prepare. She can be disruptive in her attempts to achieve her goals, a problem that comes from her focusing on the big picture and failing to notice the smaller things.
She will do everything she can when she sees a person in need-- a fact which had been taken advantage of in the past. Though her caring nature can sometimes strike people as being a bit fake, she is completely sincere in her want to help people. In truth, Judy has a hard time being fake with anyone, which proves itself to be both a strength and a weakness. While she tries her best to be completely honest with people, it can occasionally come across as being a bit offhand and she can say things that easily get her on people's bad sides. She's never afraid to say what she believes, even in a situation where it would probably be best she keeps her mouth shut.
It's risky for one to label Judy as a dumb bunny-- she's actually quite clever and quick to put two-and-two together. She's capable of thinking under pressure and can be quite innovative in even bad conditions. She's dedicated to her job and to doing what is right, and does her best to own her mistakes. With this bunny, what you see is what you get; she won't hide who she is. No matter what someone may think about her attitude and her unique charms, she is always genuine and will always stay true to herself.
Powers, Skills, Strengths, and/or Any Other Abilities:
- Stop in the Name of the Law!: Graduating head of her class at the Zootopia Police Academy, Judy has spent most of her young life working to become a police officer. As such, she is remarkably dedicated to her job and knows it inside and out. Her training lends itself to heightened physical strength and endurance, as well as a knowledge of the law and the legal system in Zootopia. Her position on the force also allows her certain connections others may be lacking, when it comes to tracking someone down or finding out information.
- Sly Bunny: As a rabbit, Judy has certain genetic strengths that she uses to her advantage. While her small stature may come across as a weakness to some, she is able to use it to slip through crowds or to escape from a tight spot. She has a stronger sense of hearing than some others and can track people fairly easily by their sound.
- He's Right About One Thing: Above all her physical abilities, Judy's greatest strength is her determination and resolve. Once she sets her mind to a task, she will do everything in her power to see it through, no matter what is standing in her way. She refuses to believe that she can't be or do something just because of how people perceive her. She doesn't give up just because the odds seem to be against her.
- Ready to Make the World a Better Place?: A positive mindset can be a powerful thing, and this bunny has positivity in spades. With a good outlook on life, Judy makes her way through her day-to-day by doing her best to always look on the bright side of life and face her problems with a good view. She believes in making the world a better place for everyone who lives in it, whether that means by protecting the peace or doing something as simple as helping someone across the street when they need it. A good mindset can make all the difference.
- Plant Husbandry was Kind of a Thing: Having grown up on the family farm, Judy has a good knowledge of plants and gardening. While this may not seem like a very practical skill in a concrete jungle like Zootopia, the other lands in Rohandor are not so predictable. To her, being able to recognize plants and whether or not they are safe could prove to be a great strength when venturing through places such as the Isle of the Jungle. More frequently, however, her knowledge of botany is spent more on helping out her family in Bunnyburrow and sharing plant names in their original Latin.
Weaknesses/Flaws:
- I Really Am Just a Dumb Bunny: One of Judy's biggest weaknesses is something that she has no control over; at the end of the day, she is just a bunny. While she has no shame in what she is, there are certain limits that come with her size and species. She can have trouble in large crowds and tends to be on the smaller side of the mammals in a room. As well, in Rohandor, there are humans who are not likely to handle a talking rabbit as well as some others, which could pose a dangerous risk to her. As her hearing is much more sensitive than that of some other animals, loud or sharp noises can cause her serious pain.
- I Don't Know When to Quit: While resolve and determination can present themselves as a strength, they can also spill over into the weakness category. Judy admits it herself; she doesn't know when to quit, and at times, this can put her in more dangerous situations than she expected or prepared for. As the first rabbit cop in Zootopia, she has something to prove, and can push herself beyond her limits in an attempt to achieve her goals, which risks resulting in injury or worse.
- You're Not Like Them: Despite her intelligence, Judy has a habit of not properly communicating her thoughts. Her thoughts can become jumbled, and she can come across as being much less polite or kind than she truly is. During a press conference that was aired throughout Zootopia, she made it out as if predators were all to be feared, and she managed to offend the one friend she had made in her short time in the city with an offhanded comment about how he wasn't "like them." She says things occasionally without thinking about the outcome.
- You Bunnies, So Emotional: Judy's emotions can get the best of her; she can be easily manipulated with a good sob story, a fact which has been taken advantage of in the past. She wants to believe the best in everybody, which can result in her putting her faith in the wrong mammals. Despite her strong belief in herself, when she becomes disappointed in something she has done, she can give up on herself quite quickly. She thinks with her heart more often than her head, and may take a path that she knows to be more dangerous because she feels it's the right one.
- I Think I Broke It: Judy has a very strong sense of what is right and wrong, and has been known to fight against the people in charge if she feels that what is happening isn't correct. She doesn't always think about the consequences of these actions, which have resulted in her job being threatened and even an attack on herself when she was young. If she were to take on a power greater than herself, she will put herself and occasionally those around her in a position of danger.
Canon History: Born to a large family in Bunnyburrow, Judy always knew that her future wasn't to follow in her family's footsteps as a carrot farmer. From the age of nine, she knew exactly what she wanted to be; the very first bunny police officer. She refused to be discouraged by the fact that no rabbit had ever become a cop before, and believed with certainty that with hard work and determination, she could go to the city of Zootopia to follow her dream. Despite the discouragement around her, Judy worked hard and fifteen years later enrolled into the Zootopia Police Academy. There, she began her arduous training, which taught her how to navigate the different regions of Zootopia, the laws she would be enforcing, and how to better use her natural skills. With hard work and a lot of long nights, Judy was able to graduate head of her class and earned her assignment to Zootopia as part of Mayor Lionheart's Mammal Inclusion Program. The Assistant Mayor, Dawn Bellwether, regarded it as a big day for the little guys.
The morning after her arrival in Zootopia was the first day of her new job. The morning meeting was headed up by her new boss, Bogo, who quickly dove into the days work. Predators were going missing in Zootopia, and it had become priority one to track them down. Despite the fact that there were thirteen missing mammals, Judy was assigned to traffic duty by the chief. Surprised and slightly put out to find that the chief clearly thought so lowly of her, Judy tried to convince Bogo that she could handle one of the missing mammal cases, being the top of her class at the academy. He commented that if that were the case, she would have no trouble filling the quota of a hundred tickets by the end of the day. Never one to turn down a challenge and determined to prove just how good she was, Judy vowed to write two-hundred tickets before noon. Using her sharp hearing and quick speed, she was able to do just that.
During the latter half of her shift, Judy spotted what a sneaky looking fox slipping into an ice cream parlour. Curious about his behaviour, she followed behind him, only to find the fox causing a bit of a hold up while trying to buy an ice cream for his son. The little fox wanted to be an elephant when he grew up, so they had come to the elephant parlour instead of a fox one. Unsure why the elephant was refusing him service, Judy felt the need to step in. It was as easy as pointing out the fact that she was an officer, that there was a major health code violation going on, and offering to ignore it if they promised to clean up and sell the nice fox his 'jumbo pop.' The elephant relented, just in time for the fox to realise that he'd forgotten his wallet. As he and his son began to leave, Judy decided she couldn't stand it and quickly paid for the cool treat. The father thanked her and offered to pay her back, but she refused. He introduced himself as Nicholas Wilde, and before the pair went their separate ways, Judy reminded the younger fox that if he wanted to be an elephant when he grew up, then he could be, because in Zootopia "anyone can be anything."
Judy continued her shift with a skip in her step, up until she spotted the little elephant-fox from the ice cream parlour and realised something was up. She caught the 'Father and son' foxes in the middle of a pawpsicle re-selling scheme, which she had been hustled into. Catching up with Nick, Judy accused him of lying to her. Trailing after him, she threatened to have him arrested for crossing burrow lines with unclaimed merchandise, selling without a permit and false advertisement. He produced his receipt of declared commerce and permit, and informed her that he didn't falsely advertise anything. Frustrated at being fooled, Judy continued to follow after the hustler, who told her that she had nothing on him and that her ideas about Zootopia were wrong. Not all predators and prey get along, and that no matter what she tried to be, she could only be what she was; a dumb bunny. When she objected to being a dumb bunny, he pointed out the wet cement he managed to walk her into. Defeated, Judy gave up her chase and pulled herself out.
Her next day of work was notably less positive than the first. Aside from her own feelings of defeat, it seemed that everyone who was ticketed decided to take it up with her, in less than kind words. She was focusing on just trying to convince herself that she was a real cop when a shop owner ran out of his shop after a robber, shouting at her to do something. Knowing an opportunity when she saw one, Judy took off after the weasel, doing her best to keep anyone from getting hurt and caught the weasel. Dragging the robber back to the ZPD, Judy was surprised to find that she was actually in trouble for what she had done. She objected that she had done her job, stopping the weasel from stealing a large amount of crocus bulbs from the flower shop, but Bogo reminded her that her job was simply to put tickets on cars. The pair were interrupted by the arrival of an otter, who insisted that the ZPD wasn't doing everything in their power to find her husband, one of the thirteen missing mammals. Unable to listen to the pleas being ignored, Judy stepped up and offered to find Mr. Otterton for his wife. She was thanked by the otter, but Bogo excused Mrs. Otterton before informing Judy that she was fired for insubordination. He insisted that she tell Mrs. Otterton that she was a former member of the ZPD, only to find when he opened the door that the assistant mayor, who was quite fond of Judy, had already informed the mayor that the mammal inclusion program must have been working if a rabbit was already taking on such an important case. Stuck, Bogo made Judy a deal; she had 48 hours to track down Mr. Otterton, and if she couldn't, then she would have to resign. Confident in her abilities to track down one missing mammal, she agreed.
At the front desk, Officer Clawhauser retrieved the Mr. Otterton case file for Judy, remarking that it was the smallest case file he'd ever seen, with no leads, no witnesses and no resources due to her not being in the ZPD system yet. Judy inspected the photo of the last known sighting of Mr. Otterton and noticed one tiny detail; he was eating a pawpsicle, the type sold by a certain fox. Driving all around the city, she was able to track down Nick Wilde in order to request his help. When he refused, she had to pull out the big guns; during his boasting about his pawpsicle scheme, Nick had let loose just how much he earned in the little endeavour. But, when Judy had pulled his tax sheets, she found that he'd claimed none of it. With a recording on her favourite carrot pen, it was his word against his if she chose to press charges, which could result in jail time. Being hustled seemed to be enough to get the fox to help her, and he agreed to take her to where he had seen Otterton go.
Arriving at the Mystic Springs Oasis, Judy was stunned to find herself in Zootopia's naturalist club, a place where animals could get back to their naked roots. Uncomfortable but undeterred, Judy was able to get the plate number of the car Otterton was seen entering from the owner. With the plate number, Judy had a new lead. Unfortunately, Judy realised that she couldn't run the plate, as she wasn't in the ZPD system yet. Since the fox had claimed to know everyone, she was fairly certain he would be able to help her with this new bump. Nick claimed to have a friend at the DMV, and the pair rushed over in a hurry. Judy was irritated to find that all the tellers were sloths. Judy tried to get the teller to hurry through getting her the plate information she needed, and despite the distractions from Nick, she was able to get the information about the car and where it came from. By the time they left the DMV and arrived at the limo service in Tundratown, the two found that it was clocked. Sneaking onto the property, they managed to find the correct limo fairly quickly. While Judy searched the front seat, Nick found a rather frightening scene in the back. Joining Nick, Judy observed the claw marks, which she determined to be a clear sign of an attack. Otterton's wallet was on the floor of the limo, affirming that he had been there. While the two tried to understand what would have happened, Nick noticed something in the back that panicked him. He explained that the limo belonged to someone called Mr. Big, and that that mammal did not like him. Judy refused to leave her crime scene, despite Nick's insistence. The decision was made for the both of them when a pair of polar bears found the two in the limo and nabbed them, sticking them in the back of their own limo and driving them off.
Judy refused to stay silent when meeting Mr. Big, telling him that she knew Otterton had been in his car and that she wouldn't be going anywhere until she got some answers. The crime boss was all too happy to get rid of both of them, when he was interrupted by his young daughter who was angered to find out that her father was doing this on her wedding day. The younger shrew recognised Judy, stopping her father from hurting her when she realised Judy had saved her life in Little Rodentia the day before, from being crushed by the weasel-robber. Mr. Big realised that he owed Judy quite a debt, and let both her and Nick go free. After his daughter's wedding, he explained why Otterton had been in his car. Otterton, Mr. Big's florist, had said he needed to speak with him, but had attacked Mr. Big's driver on the way. He said that if Nick and Judy wanted to find out what really happened, they would need to speak to him. Fortunately, it was fairly easy to track down Mr. Manchas. They explained to the terrified jaguar that they only wanted to know what had happened to Mr. Otterton, but Manchas opened the door to reveal that he was the one who had been hurt in the encounter. He explained that Otterton had gone savage, yelling about "night howlers." Nick and Judy tried to coax Manchas to let them in by promising that if he told them what he knew, they would tell him what they knew. Before Manchas was able to, he became savage himself and chased the pair through the District. Judy quickly radioed for backup while pair ran towards the sky tram, and were cut off by Mr. Manchas. Before he was able to attack them, the pair slipped off the overhead, catching themselves on vines just before hitting the pavement.
When backup arrived, Judy lead them back up to the sky tram landing, explaining what she had discovered. While Bogo seemed doubtful, Judy was sure he would believe her when he saw Mr. Manchas. However, they were shocked to find that Manchas was no longer on the landing. Stating that Judy had had her chances, Bogo demanded her badge. With no defence in her mind, Judy was ready to hand it over when Nick backed her up, reminding them that she still had ten hours to solve the case. Before Judy could get a word in edgewise, Nick lead her off to the sky tram, and the pair left. Judy thanked Nick for standing up for her, and he finally opened up about himself to her. He explained that he'd had an awful experience as a child, and he had long since decided that if people were going to think you could only ever be one thing, then there was no point in trying to try and be anything else. Before they could dwell on the moment, Nick had the idea to check the traffic cams, which would have had footage of where Manchas had gone. While they wouldn't be able to get into the ZPD system, it occurred to Judy that she had a friend in city hall who just might have been able to help. In City Hall, Judy and Nick tracked down Bellwether, who seemed happy to help out with Judy's investigation. She patched them into the system, before hurrying off. Judy was able to use the traffic cams to find where they had left Manchas, and the pair was surprised to find that a pair of timber wolves had captured Manchas, putting him in a van and driving off with them. With Nick's knowledge of routes people may take when trying not to be caught, they were able to track the van to the cliff side.
Hurrying to where the van had gone, Judy and Nick found a large building guarded by a dozen wolves. Judy, thinking on her feet to keep them from getting caught, used the wolves natural instinct to respond to a howl against them, and the pair were quick to sneak into the building. They discovered what seemed to be an abandoned hospital, but one room had all new, running equipment. Nick spotted claw marks on the floor, and a hall of glass walled cells. Inside the cells, they discovered not only Mr. Manchas and Mr. Otterton, but all of the mammals that had gone missing. Before the pair had a chance to figure out what was wrong with the mammals, the door to the hall opened, and Nick and Judy dove into one of the empty cells to hide. They were surprised to find Mayor Lionheart discussing the state of the mammals with a doctor, who was saying they had to consider the biology of the mammals, since all of them were predators. Lionheart, being a lion, refused to let anyone know that what was happening to the mammals could be caused by their DNA. Recording all of the conversation on her phone, Judy gave themselves away when her parents called her, her ringtone loud enough to alert the doctor and the Mayor. The doctor initiated a lock down, effectively trapping Nick and Judy in the room. While Nick panicked, Judy put her phone in an evidence bag and lead Nick to the only way she could see out-- flushing themselves down the toilet. They emerged from the plumbing unharmed and dropped into the water below. Calling the ZPD, Judy provided Bogo with her phone to use as evidence against the Mayor and the Doctor, who were promptly arrested. The missing predators were taken into custody, though no one was certain exactly how to get them out of their savage state of mind.
A few days later, Judy had been asked to give a press conference about the missing mammals by acting Mayor Bellwether. Judy told Nick that had been thinking she wouldn't mind a partner, passing him an application for the ZPD along with the carrot pen that had his incriminating recording on it before going for her press conference. She explained the case from her perspective, mentioning that, while they weren't certain what was causing what was happening, it only seemed to be effecting predators, and that citizens had to be vigilant and careful. Judy caught up with Nick afterwards, unsure why he was suddenly acting so cold to her. As it turned out, her answers during the press conference had sounded, to him, as though she were accusing predators of being more dangerous than prey mammals. Nick asked if she was afraid of him, afraid that he might go savage, and she wasn't able to answer; when he bared his claws at her, her instinct kicked in and she moved into a defensive posturing, reaching for the fox repellent that was still in her belt. Before she could explain herself, Nick left and she was cut off from catching up with him by the reporters from the press conference.
The next week saw more mammals around Zootopia going savage, resulting in the city being greatly on edge. Judy, seeing the result of what she had exposed, chose to leave the ZPD. She packed her things up and took the train back to Bunnyburrow, wanting to leave everything behind in Zootopia. Working on the carrot farm, Judy discovered that because of her, her parents had been willing to give Gideon Grey a second chance, and it turned out the boy had changed a lot in the past fifteen years. Coming face to face with her old bully, Judy was surprised when he actually apologised for his behaviour when they were children. The four were catching up when Judy's father shouted at a few of the kids to not run through the midnicampum holicithias flowers. Gideon mentioned that his family had called the flowers night howlers, a phrase which stuck out in Judy's memory. Her parents explained that the flowers were used on the farms to keep bugs off the produce, but the flowers were actually very dangerous. Her Uncle Terry had eaten one as a child and gone savage. With the knowledge that night howlers had never meant wolves, Judy realised her mistake and hurriedly took her parents truck, hurrying for Zootopia.
Judy tracked down Nick, explaining to him her discovery. Finding him barely even willing to talk to her, she launched into her apology, telling him that she needed his help, but if he still hated her when everything was done, that she wouldn't blame him since she had been such a "dumb bunny." She was surprised, a second later, to hear her own voice insulting her again, and saw Nick grinning back at her with the carrot pen that she had left with him in his hand. Their friendship mended, the pair hurried off to make their plan. Judy remembered the weasel who she had caught stealing crocus bulbs, and Nick knew exactly where to find the weasel. When he refused to tell them why he had stolen the bulbs, they had Mr. Big help them get a confession. Duke told them that he was offered money by a ram named Doug to steal the bulbs, and that they could find the ram in an abandoned train car underground. Tracking down the ram, they found the train car and were able to sneak inside. The car was filled with night howler flowers, a chemistry set being used to make bullet-like pellets. Doug, on the phone and talking to his boss, confessed to shooting Otterton. Using a knock on the door to her advantage, Judy kicked Doug out of the car, insisting they get all of the evidence to the ZPD, including the train car itself. Heading into the conductor's seat, Judy was able to get the car moving on the track. The rams tried to stop Judy and Nick, resulting in the pair crashing the train car and the pair barely managing to get out. The car exploded, and Judy was sure they had lost all the evidence, but Nick had managed to swipe the case with the gun and night howler pellet inside when jumping out.
Glad that something had survived, Judy chose to take a short cut through the natural history museum to the ZPD. They were surprised to be found by Mayor Bellwether, and Judy almost handed the case over to her before it occurred to her that something was strange. Realising that Bellwether was the one orchestrating everything, the pair tried to escape the museum. Judy was injured in the attempt, Nick stopping to wrap her leg. Judy insisted he take the case to Bogo, but he refused to leave her behind. Quickly, the pair had to make a plan; Nick realised that the night howler serum looked remarkably like the blueberries he had brought along, and he swapped the serum out for a handful of blueberries in the gun while they made a plan to make Bellwether confess to everything she had done. When the pair tried once again to escape, they were knocked into a display pit. Bellwether bragged about her plan when Judy prodded her, stating that if prey were united against a common fear of predators, then Bellwether would be able to stay in power. Nick was shot by what Bellwether believed to be the night howler serum, the sheep calling the police to report that Judy had been attacked by a savage fox. When the sheep had said all they needed, Nick 'attacked' and Judy hammed it up dramatically before the two revealed that they had gotten exactly what they needed; Bellwether's confession, recorded on Judy's carrot pen. Since Bellwether herself had called the police, they were quick to arrive and hear the reveal of Bellwether's plan, taking her into custody.
Thankfully, knowing what had caused the savage behaviour in the mammals, a cure for the night howler serum was quickly developed and they were soon back to themselves. With Zootopia put right once again, Judy was happy to help Nick through his police academy training, and was proud to be the speaker at his commencement. Placed on the force as her partner, Judy and Nick work together to try and make Zootopia a better place.
Game Information: Newly arrived in Rohandor, Judy is quickly trying to figure out the ropes and understand how things are going to work from now on. While she's intimidated by the prospect of seeing humans for the first time and of meeting the animals outside of the comfort of her home, she's excited for all the new adventures she'll be able to take on.
Anything Else: Judy takes serious offence to being called cute. There are only very few people who can actually get away with it, so if you want her to take you seriously, try to avoid it.

"No, actually..." Judy waited to swing back towards her partner, close enough that she should be in earshot, before continuing her thought, "This is... completely... your fault."
Ignoring how ridiculous she must have sounded and looked, the rabbit took a moment to appraise her situation, trying to figure her way out of it, since someone certainly wasn't going to be helpful. She felt ridiculous; she'd been so distracted by the beautiful sights of the Isle of the Jungle (it was like the rainforest district times... hundreds) that she hadn't been watching where she was going and had stepped into some primitive sort of trap. Now, swinging upside down by her ankle, Judy was just trying to figure out how to get down.
"I would have... been paying attention... if you hadn't..." She trailed off, realizing that she was wasting her energy trying to place blame, instead of focusing on just getting out of this mess.
Focusing on muscles she hadn't needed to use in some time, the small bunny curled herself up, taking hold of the rope that was still swinging her back and forth. After a brief moment of shutting her eyes and trying not to be sick from the perpetual motion, she hurried her paws into trying to untie the complex knot that had tightened around her foot.
"You can stop... laughing... any time, now."
Suddenly, through Nick's laughter, Judy's ears could pick up a sound nearby. Something she wasn't entirely familiar with, and she took a moment to shush in the fox's direction, waving her hands at him in an attempt to quiet him. Soon, the only sound between them was the soft creaking of the overhead tree branch which was suspending her, and Judy swivelled her ears about the clearing in an attempt to pinpoint where the sound had come from. Finally, she pointed towards a thicker part of brush, gesturing for the one of them who wasn't stuck in a tree to go and check it out.
