When the world is rearranged and dozens of new royal figures turn up, it's just common sense to forge alliances between them in case of need later. David Xanatos, who might be one of the closest things Manhattan had for royalty, intended to get straight to forging. His first major incursion into the Isle of the Dragon hadn't gone exactly has planned, what with the accidental unleashing of an insane frost dragon intent on wiping out everything in sight. Despite the very corruptable Chi Fu trying to mend things over the Emperor was hesitant to have the billionare carrying out any more archeological digs anytime soon. Which led to a change of tactics in Andalasia.
David walked through a small village in the kingdom flanked by his bodyguards, a pair of Steel Clan robots which the locals took as knights in armour. His researchers had found that, before the formation of Rohandor, Andalasia had it's own crossover with modern day New York via magic, a temporal rift of a weakening between dimensions. Whatever the reason both locations had a strong link, even more so thanks to the marriage between Prince Edward and Nancy Tremaine so the kingdom was ripe for an alliance of some kind. A messenger had been sent a week ago offering to meet within the town and discuss matters. The town was chosen because A) the home territory would make them at ease and B) If things went south it would be easier than trying to fight past the royal guards from inside a castle (not that going south was intended but it was wise to plan ahead)
Finding a bench near the meeting point Xanatos sat down to admire the setting, signalling his robots to step back so as not to spook the crowd. Andalasia was indeed colourful compared to Manhattan, plus it was a change of pace working in daylight rather than the night work he'd been doing with Goliath and his clan. Taking a personal approach certainly had its advantages. Now it was just a matter of waiting to see who they'd send to negotiate.
ooc: Ugh, stupid stupid title. Hopefully the thread content will make up for it
Truthfully, Nancy had zero problems with dealing with the diplomatic portion of being a royal. It wasn't that she thought Edward was incapable, not at all. It was simply that she enjoyed feeling useful. Since her arrival in Andalasia, every handmaiden she had tried to train her to remember her place.
A Queen's job is too look good on her husband's arm. Bah.
Admittedly, her blending into Andalasian society had not been going so well. The women thought her odd for wearing pants when in the comfort of her own room, refused to allow her to keep her hair down and unstyled, and if that didn't make her stand out, her speech certainly did the job. As happy as Nancy was of her new life, lately she felt perfectly useless.
So, when Edward had found himself too busy to take care of their guest, a business man coming from Nancy's own NYC, she was more than happy to fill in. She wasn't sure exactly what the man was interested in discussing, or even how he had come to be in Andalasia. He was the first such visitor-- despite Andalasia being connected to other worlds, they and their people kept very much to themselves.
Finally content with her appearance and silencing the chatter from her chambermaids, Nancy made her way out to the gardens where they were set to meet, her dress pulled up around her calves to hurry her movement.
"I think that's the first suit I've seen since I've come to Andalasia. You must feel out of place."

It wasn't a long wait before David was greeted by the Queen herself. Nancy Tremaine, a former boutique owner who caught the eye of Prince Edward and began a quite literal fairytale romance while leaving her old life behind. She would be a good negotiator for any potential trade agreements, maybe she was even looking to introduce some familiar luxuries to her kingdom.
"We're both powerful people your Highness. Though a tailored suit works better for me than a crown and a cloak."
Xanantos stood up and bowed politely, giving the Queen her due respect.
"David Xanatos, head of Xanatos Enterprises. I've come from Manhattan, now located the Isle of Stone. As my message said I was hoping to negotiate trade between our lands."
He was prepared to provide a lot to meet the demands of Andalasia, a successful arrangement would bode well when creating other relationships with the other Isles. Not that David was intending to modernise everything with cars, televisions and other wasteful pursuits. If he changed things too much he'd risk damaging any magical balance within the kingdoms and that would be his immortality plans down the drain. He did have many branches to his company however and could meet most requests provided he could gain access to powerful magic in return. Sitting back down the billionaire began his pitch.
"You were from Manhattan too weren't you? Must have been quite the adjustment."
Watching as the man lowered into a bow, the Queen held up a hand to, hopefully, still the motion. She still wasn't used to people treating her like royalty-- It made her uncomfortable. Like they were secretly waiting to see her mess it up somehow. For a short moment, she allowed her gaze to flick over to the man's bodyguards, who she knew well enough to be more than what they seemed. They only served to enhance her discomfort.
"Oh, save the formalities for my husband. Just Nancy will be fine, really. I'm glad to see you made it here all right."
Nancy had only briefly read over the letter that had come from this man, truthfully. In hindsight, she really should have been paying more attention, but the idea of talking to someone who would say more than 'yes, your highness' was so appealing that she really hadn't stopped to think.
"It's been an interesting adjustment, but nothing too difficult. I'll admit, though, it's nice to hear that familiar accent." Pausing a moment, Nancy pushed her hair back behind her ear, looking the man over before smiling once again, "You said you're interested in trade? Tell me, what could Andalasia possibly have to offer a big business man like yourself? Unless you've got a sudden interest in talking chipmunks..."

Xanatos stopped when Nancy held her hand up, apparently not too keen on his attempt at formality. He raised up again and settled into his usual relaxed manner, turning to the Steel robots and waving them off. The drones took the message and walking off to a less imposing distance. If any danger presented itself they could jet back fast enough. For now David returned to his seat on the bench and continued with his offer.
"You'd be suprised how many of the isles have talking animals. Even some parts of Manhattan. No, my interest is in magic. I've spent my life working with technology and science but this is a new world with new rules. Adapt or perish as they say. New York is so different from the other isles. I want to create a balance, help the city and its people adjust to the change."
He didn't deem it necessary to mention his other objective. By trading for various other sources of magic from around Rohandor he could perfect his attempts at gaining immortality. Some would call it a fear, having spent his life building up a business empire and still having no idea of what comes afterwards. Xanatos just saw it as another mountain to conquer in his life story. He'd mastered everything as a man, so why not raise the bar for some godlike challenges.
"In return I'm willing to provide whatever Xanatos Enterprises can provide. While New York is trying to adjust we should help our neighbours do the same. I could offer your kingdom the modern conveniences you grew up with. "
The word was heavy in her mouth, and Nancy did her best to keep her expression light. Oh, Edward was not going to be pleased about this. They knew the dangers magic could hold; Edward's own step-mother had used magic and it had been the end of her. It seemed to be the thing that corrupted so many over Rohandor's isles.
"Magic is learned, Xanatos, as I'm sure you're well aware. Magical items, dangerous. And, truthfully, Edward keeps a fairly tight reign on anything with magical signifigance. Protection, y'know?"
Oh, her accent was coming through in the presence of another New Yorker, and she winced internally. Not very princess-ly.
"He just doesn't want anyone getting hurt."
Scratching at the back of her head a moment, the Queen tugged on her curls before clearing her throat, "Besides. I don't think Andalasia would really benefit from those...'modern conveniences'. I mean, hey, I'd love to have a...a hair dryer again or something like that, but really...I can't think about silliness like that."

"Of course. I understand your husbands concern over safety. Let me tell you a story."
Xanatos was no fool regarding the knowledge required with magic. Everything had a cost and if you made a mistake the task required to undo it could require a miracle. It wasn't always as easy as Tolkien where you just brought in a female fighter when the monster boasted that 'no man could best him'. Sometimes you needed to move a mountain or part an ocean.
"The year nine thirty eight. Goliath, the leader of a mighty race protected a castle of his human allies from harm until he was betrayed and lost most of his clan. Even then he, along with the few survivors, tried to protect humans, rescuing a Princess from a Viking leader. Unfortunatly a powerful but impulsive sorceror known as the Magus misinterpreted their actions and cursed them to an eternity in stone. Even when he realised his mistake he was to late, to remove the curse required the castle they called home to be moved until it was above the clouds."
Reaching into his pocket Xanatos pulled out a photograph, not the original copy of course but one he decided to bring with him as part of an alternative trade offer. A photo of his wedding day to Fox with the Clan in view. David handed it over to Nancy.
"That's Goliath there, my best man. I purchased the castle years back and moved it on top of my building. Right above the clouds, fulfilling the terms of the deal. Can you imagine how many curses have been used in Andalasia alone? How dangerous entities hide behind such contracts? All you'd have to do is send me a message and I'll have the resources of my company ready to meet their terms."
That was the kind of offer that got interest. Like Nancy said, she wasn't going to hand dangerous items over for mod-cons. Though maybe he could start casual to build a better foundation.
"Though if you still miss the New York lifestyle we could always talk property development instead. Build you and your kingdom an embassy in Manhattan, make visiting home a little easier?"
ooc: No problem, difficult is good. I'd worry if she accepted to easily.
Nancy continued to watch Xanatos with a wary eye as he shared his story-- she wasn't entirely sure she understood the reasoning behind such a strange tale. If anything, he seemed to be highlighting her fears the royals had of letting magic out of Andalasia.
Instead of interrupting, she took the offered photo, looking over the figures in the photograph-- certainly not human. As David continued to speak, she looked over the different people in the picture, a smile playing softly on her lips.
"The last Queen of Andalasia..." She started slowly, passing the photo back to the business man, "Ruled through magic. Anyone who got in her way would be subject to whatever wicked little...insanity that her mind could come up with. You broke that curse. You think that you'd be able to...break others?"
Really, she shouldn't even be thinking about talking about Narissa. She had betrayed Edward's innocent trust, and lately-- though, she was certain the King thought his bride hadn't noticed-- he seemed to be more afraid of her return.
Fairy tale remedies could only do so much, she knew. And if her psychotic mother-in-law was at risk of returning, Nancy needed to be certain they would be...safe.
{This reply is bad and I feel bad. Let me know if you need more to go from. D:}

"You know someone who needs help."
Davids expression dropped into concern as Nancy spoke. He didn't expect his offer, while fully intended as honest, to come into play quite so soon. This Narissa sounded like a bit of a bullying tyrant, apparently using magic to torture on a whim. It seemed a lot of the Isles had witches or dark queens in their history.
"Tell me more. I'll see what I can do."
Hopefully he could provide some help with what he had on hand. Even if just to make a good impression. The Clan robots he brought with him not only had iron in their build, good against magic, but were capable of many impressive feats. Even if all he got was the gratitude of the person he helped, Xanatos thought that would be good enough. At least a good foundation to build on.
"No, no, it's nothing so urgent. It's not that...I know someone who needs help. It's more..."
Nancy trailed off shortly, wondering exactly how she wanted to phrase her next statement. She didn't want to give the man any advantage over her, didn't want to let Andalasia appear helpless. But truthfully, everything involving Narissa made the royal couple feel weak.
"It's more that I know there must be someone out there who does."
The Queen laced her fingers together and bit down hard on the inside of her cheek. Andalasia was absolutely capable of breaking these curses...if only they knew what they were. She was certain, yes, certain.
"We have no reference of what spells she had cast, or on whom-- who. Whatever. And, ah, it's not like she left a magic book laying around for just anyone to find-- I saw her do it, it was totally all from memory. We thought, when she was imprisoned, that her magic would be cut off from Andalasia but...it doesn't seem like it."

"But you're not sure how the rules of magic might have changed with the Isles forming? Now that New York and Andalasia are easier to travel between you worry for both of your homes."
From what he learned before coming to this meeting, Nancy was a reasonably successful business woman, so she knew about planning ahead for a rainy day. Xanatos himself knew how that was, given his encounters of fae, monsters, cyborgs and mutates he had a fair number of resources dedicated to developing countermeasures. Dealing with human foes was occasionally a relief. Still, this Narissa seemed to have the young Queen worried.
"I have a few research groups putting together histories of the Isles. Occasionally they manage to put together some information about how magic works on each of them. Local mythology and supernatural creatures, things like that. If you'd like I could send for a team to put together a report for you. Or in the meantime..."
David signalled with his hand, calling over one of the Clan robots who then stood in front of the two at attention.
"I could give you one of these for protection in case Narissa shows up. They're magic resistant and one hundred percent loyal. Don't need food or sleep, they even make good decor when you aren't using them."
Nancy was surprised at how easily David managed to understand exactly what she'd been fretting about.
"Yes, exactly that. It's not that I doubt we can't protect ourselves, it's just that..." She paused, clasping her hands together, "If anything does happen...it would fall on me."
She wasn't used to having so much weight on her shoulders. Most of her life, the only person she'd had to be responsible for was herself, and she liked it that way. Now, there was so much pressure, so much...fear.
The giant metal robot standing there admittedly didn't decrease her fear any, either.
"Research seems more...our speed; I don't think that these would go over so well on the locals." Hell, she'd seen high-tech gadgets and the like before, and these weren't going over well with her. "I'm fairly certain if I allowed these anywhere near the King, he would...well, it wouldn't go over well, I fear."
{wow, you waited that long for this crappy reply. :/ Let me know if you need more!}

She was either very cunning or very noble, possibly both. Xanatos was fast exhausting all his options to gain a foothold in a magic heavy kingdom, bargaining and trade, even offering one of his inventions as a mole. It was so much easier in the old world, countries would pay through the nose for his robots and technology, unknowingly setting up an automated intelligence network feeding everything back to David who could then exploit any knowledge he found for later use. Nancy however had made it clear that they didn't really need anything he could provide. There were a few isles with cities and towns requiring technology that Xanatos Enterprises could provide but to build a need with the rest of the Kingdoms he'd have to change his gameplan. It was going to be fun.
"My people are at your disposal anytime your Highness."
He waved the Clan robot away, letting it march back to the other drone.
"Just for future reference you ever see a gargoyle that looks exactly like that except purple? That's Goliath and he's the real thing."
Seemed there was little else he could do. Any trust would have to be built up over the long term, luckily David knew all about long term.
"There is one other thing while I'm here. My wife Fox and I are planning a get together in Manhattan soon, a bit of a meet and greet. We'd be honoured if you and your husband could attend."
"I'm fairly certain, Xanatos, that if I ever see a Gargoyle in Andalasia, my first thought won't be asking it's name. I would probably be the one panicking."
It was a joke, really, a silly statement but when she paused to look at the sheer size of the robot, she suddenly wasn't so sure that wasn't an accurate sum up of her reaction. She was used to seeing the little gargoyles that sat on the old banks and corporate buildings in the city, the ones that were only about the size of a garden gnome. They weren't scary. But coming face to face with a creature so aptly named Goliath...?
Turning her gaze and her thoughts back to David, she returned her smile to her lips, twisting a curl around one of her fingers before nodding, "Well, I'll...definitely bring it up with him. I'd love to come, but Edward...had a really...unique experience the last time he was in New York. Might take a little convincing."
The possibility of seeing giant stone creatures was probably not going to convince him.
