Character Name: Queen Elsa of Arendelle
Gender: Female
Type of Creature: Human
Rank: Force of Good
Movie/TV Series: Frozen
Home Island: Isle of the Mountain
Personality: Elsa always had a heart very open to love and joy but because of her powers, combined with her upbringing, she was forced to deny herself reasons to feel either of those things. It left a scar within her and she often finds it difficult to express her emotions appropriately even to this day. In an effort to learn to keep her powers in check, and to keep her sister, family, and people safe, the majority of her life was spent trying to keep herself away from others and try to keep from feeling any sort of emotion at all. Even just through that act alone Elsa demonstrated her selfless way, putting the entire kingdom's safety above her own happiness.
Her isolation left her feeling sad and lonely but she was able to justify it to herself because so long as she was locked away, no one around her would get hurt and she was more than willing to sacrifice anything to keep everyone safe from her abilities. She was a dutiful and obedient daughter trying her best to do everything her parents, specifically her father, asked of her. She was the eldest daughter and understood that she would have responsibilities. She was always ready and willing to learn and tried to be best at everything that was thrown her way. Her studies gave her something substantial to focus on and at least a false sense of control when her mystical abilities continued to be chaotic.
From a very young age Elsa has felt emotions very strongly, perhaps more strongly than most people do, which made it all the more difficult to try and follow her father's instructions and keep her emotions suppressed. Now that she finally knows that she does in fact have the ability to thaw her own ice, Elsa feels like a large weight has been lifted from her and she doesn't fear her abilities the way she used to and is far better able to control them. She even allows herself limited physical contact with other which almost feels unnatural and strange to her after so many years spent hiding from the world.
Elsa's good heart has continued to burn inside her chest even after all this time however, Elsa has absolutely no tolerance for those that would judge or oppress her for her abilities. She cut off trade with all of Weselton, their closest trade partner, because of the Duke's harsh and drastic actions towards her. For any number of reasons Elsa does not have a forgiving nature though whether it is because of her years spent in isolation, because she can't afford to look weak in the eyes of her people, because she can't trust outsiders to understand that she isn't dangerous, or a combination of all Elsa herself isn't sure.
Regardless the new queen intends to be a kind, fair, and just ruler, willing to do whatever it takes to keep her sister and kingdom safe from any threat.
Powers, Skills, and/or Any Other Abilities:
Magical Cold Weather Manipulation Abilities: Elsa has been shown to perform any number of magical feats with her icy powers. Though she doesn't yet know the limits of her abilities, she has used her magic excessively and has never shown any sign of fatigue. The ice and snow she conjures also seems to be more mystical than normal ice and snow since it seems to continue to grow and spread without any conscious effort on Elsa's part. Though she was born with the ability to conjure winter it is a supernatural ability and not an average ability a normal human would have. There is no scientific explanation for her powers.
- Ice Conjuring: When Elsa stomps her foot, she can generate ice that spreads quickly across an area. This can either freeze the floor or a room or the entire fjord. Water will freeze on contact with her feet even through a shoe when consciously using this ability, allowing her to run at full speed across a body of water. The ice that Elsa conjures is very solid. The dress she created held together even when her ice chandelier shattered and she was knocked to the ground.
- Snow Generation and Manipulation: Just by thinking it Elsa can create magical snow that manifests from her hands. She can create a winter wonderland in a small room or an intense blizzard that spreads across the entire kingdom. When she blasts her magic snow at an icy ground she can propel herself across it at incredible speeds. She can also manipulate existing snow with her powers.
- Ability to create a winter storm both elaborate and contained: Elsa has the ability not only to generate ice and snow but also to actually summon up a winter storm covering the land in gray snow-producing clouds. She can also conjure up a contained cloud that generates enough cold and snow to keep ice from melting so long as it remains beneath the flurry. These small clouds can be tethered to a moving being like one of her animated snow creatures.
- Ability to create living snow creatures: Twice now Elsa has created sentient 'life' with her abilities. The first was a recreation of Olaf, a snowman built with Anna when they were children, which came to life carrying memories of his time together with the pair of girls. The other was a giant snow creature named Marshmallow she conjured to help protect her. Both creatures were not only brought to life as sentient creatures but also with thoughts and intent Elsa put into them during their creation. Olaf was created when she was reveling in her powers and remember her childhood while Marshmallow was created when she needed someone to protect her and carry out her will.
- Power's Defensive Nature: Elsa's abilities seem to react to her state of mind and when she is under direct assault they can act of their own accord functioning under some sort of primal survival instinct within Elsa to protect her and keep her alive.
- Immunity to the Cold: Cold temperatures don't affect Elsa in the same way they affect others. She can exist in sub zero temperatures, even wearing a dress made completely of ice, without any sort repercussions or discomfort.
- Offensive Ice Magic: Elsa's ice powers can be used in offensive ways to gravely injure others. If she hits someone with her ice magic it freezes the individual where it hit them and the victim will slowly turn to ice. It is particularly deadly if one is hit in the heart. Anywhere else on the body it can be healed through magical methods but the heart requires an act of true love to cure.
- Thawing the Cold: Elsa can generate cold, but she has recently discovered that she can also disperse the snow and ice that she creates as well as that which already exists in nature.
Creativity: All the time shut in her room gave Elsa time to explore more inspiring hobbies like reading and art. In application, Elsa's ice powers are only limited by her imagination which seems to be boundless. She has created living snow creatures, an elegant and elaborate ice palace and a functioning dress with intricate and delicate patterns. All of these creations were done in minutes if not seconds.
Queen: Elsa is the queen of Arendelle and with that comes an enormous amount of political power.
Acting: Elsa had to spend her whole life concealing and lying about her abilities. Though she let down her guard with her parents, to the rest of the world she was the picture of elegance and perfection. She never let her emotions get the best of her in public prior to her coronation and she retains the ability to maintain a believable poker face.
Weaknesses/Flaws:
Limited/Stunted Social Skills: Elsa spent the good majority of her life locked away in her bedroom with minimal human contact. Until her parents died, it was only her mother and father, a healer for when she was ill, and an occasional tutor when it was something her father couldn't teach her. Sometimes she shared a kind with the few servants as well during the infrequent occasions she left her room. She doesn't understand how to relate to people on more than a basic child-like level, similar to a development issue of those that are home-schooled. She wasn't able to grow and mature like a normal child and young adult due to her isolation.
Icy Touch: Elsa's ice magic manifests from her hands specifically. When she was less in control she would begin to freeze anything she touched within mere seconds if she wasn't wearing gloves, which seem to stifle her powers. With her fear more under control this is less of a concern but it is still something that could happen if she lost control of herself or wasn't focused. Though it seems like cloth-type gloves do hinder her abilities, metal or other substances that grow brittle when cold, will not be able to stop her for long.
Closed off: Elsa feels most comfortable when she is alone. Though she does enjoy the company of others, it still feels abnormal to her having been hidden away for so long and often stays by herself simply out of habit. For those same reasons Elsa doesn't open up to many people. She spent so long keeping the secret of her powers that 'letting people in' isn't something that feels natural or right to her. Even when it comes to her sister.
Too Open: In complete contrast to the previous weakness, Elsa craves human contact, acceptance, and someone who can understand her. Under the right circumstances someone could potentially take advantage of that. Since she also doesn't necessarily understand what she should and shouldn't keep to herself now, she might give someone information they shouldn't have access to.
Stubborn: Elsa has her beliefs and she will stick to them no matter what. Once she makes up her mind about something and sets a course of action, getting her to change her mind is very difficult.
Anger: Elsa has a deep frustration and anger with the world in general. Though this isn't an active anger, it is there sometimes. Years of her life and even her whole childhood were taken from her and wasted locked away in a bedroom. It wasn't right and it wasn't fair and when put into an extreme situation- people trying to kill her for example- she could potentially lose herself in that anger.
Unknown Power Scope: Though Elsa has a significantly better understanding of the scope of her powers, she does not understand their full range. Her powers have certainly been shown to protect her when she is scared or panicked, however, when she is so out of control, she cannot predict how her powers will react to threats. This could result in more extreme actions taken against her enemies or unintentional injury to allies.
Emotional Connection to Cold Abilities: When Elsa is upset or scared, her powers can manifest without her knowledge spreading ice outward all around her. (Even when she was being carried on a horse she left a trail of ice in her wake.) When she is overwhelmed by grief her abilities seem to suspend in time, everything hovering in an eerie stillness. Also when she is exceptionally upset and pushed to a breaking point, magical ice has been shown to radiate out of her in an almost violent fashion and can strike outward to injure those near her whether they're a friend or foe.
Glass Canon: Though Elsa has enough power to 'freeze the summer' she is ultimately human and therefore subject to all the vulnerabilities and weaknesses that it entails.
Cannot control water: Elsa has only demonstrated control over water in its frozen form and cannot manipulate liquid water or water vapor in the air.
Canon History:
Elsa was born the eldest daughter to the King and Queen of Arendelle. Though in almost every way she seemed an average, healthy, and happy child, she was not what anyone would consider to be 'normal' a fact her parents discovered when she was very young. Unlike either of her parents, Elsa possessed hair that was very light blonde, almost white in color, and even more extraordinary, she was able to generate and manipulate ice and snow. An ability that only grew as she got older.
Elsa could never understand why her parents seemed so wary about her abilities especially when they seemed to delight her baby sister so. There was little in the world Elsa loved more than to see her sister smile and often used her powers in little ways that made her eyes light up with wonder. As her powers grew, so did her displays until the pair found themselves sneaking off into various vacant rooms in the palace in order to create a wintery wonderland in which to play.
At least they did this until the accident. One night the pair snuck down into the Great Hall to build a snowman and play as they had done a number of times before. This time however, Elsa accidentally caught Anna in the eye with her ice magic. Anna cried out... but then didn't move again. Everything happened so fast after that. Elsa had cried for her parents and she remembered vividly rocking Anna back and forth in her arms until they came. Her mother took Anna from her saying she was ice cold. Her father said he knew where they had to go and the next thing Elsa knew, she and Anna were being whisked away into the forest.
It was this night that Elsa made her first and only contact with the trolls of her country. Anna was saved, but at a cost. Anna would no longer remember that Elsa had powers and it had to stay that way for her safety. Before they left, the trolls informed Elsa that her powers would continue to grow. They advised her to learn to control them because though they brought great beauty they could also bring danger and breed fear.
Elsa's life changed significantly after that night. She was moved into her own room, the staff in the castle was decreased, and there were no more visitors to the castle. Elsa didn't like being separated from her sister but the last thing she wanted to do was hurt her again so she quietly accepted her isolation. She did her best to learn to suppress her magical abilities all the while hating that she had to keep pushing Anna further and further away. Her father tried to help her, offering her advice and giving her gloves to wear which seemed to keep the ice at bay. Conceal it, don't feel it. He and her mother also took the time to teach the ways of ruling their country for someday she would be queen and inherit the throne.
That day came much sooner than anyone expected when Elsa's parents were taken from her while traveling across the sea to visit family. Elsa felt even more isolated than ever. With the death of her parents and still unable to share the secret with her sister, Elsa was the only one in the whole world that knew about her abilities. She was left alone to shoulder their burden, a burden that continued to grow stronger. She did her best to try to suppress emotion, but no matter what she did the ice continued to manifest causing the fear she had of her abilities to continue to grow as well.
The day of Elsa's coronation was a day she viewed with nothing but dread. She somehow managed to make it through the ceremony without exposing her abilities, though it was close, but the celebration afterwards was a different story. She and Anna quarreled and her powers were exposed. Horrified at what she had done and fearful of hurting anyone, Elsa fled into the night and across the fjord which froze under her wherever her feet touched. With her secret out and her fear of hurting everyone still strong within her, Elsa decided to stay up in the mountains and leave her past behind. She created a great ice palace on the North Mountain to live in and for the first time felt as though she could relax and be herself without hurting anyone.
To her surprise, Anna showed up and tried to convince her to come back with her to Arendelle. Elsa refused and Anna went on to explain that their home was frozen over in an eternal winter. This was too much for Elsa to handle and while she had felt so free and calm only moments before the weight of her curse crashed down on her with such levity the swirling storm of fear manifested in a blizzard all around her. With the help of Marshmallow she sent Anna and her companions away in a futile attempt to keep them safe from her uncontrollable powers unknowing that she'd already dealt Anna a death sentence.
Elsa paced frantically about her palace trying to calm herself and get her powers under control watching as her ice palace of bright and warm colors faded to dark and foreboding hues with her mood only serving to upset her more.
Not long after Anna had left, Elsa found herself under attack. The two men that had come with the Duke of Weselton broke into her ice palace in an attempt to kill her. At first her powers instinctively protected her, but as the men continued their assault, a fury like Elsa had never known consumed her. She fought back, using her powers offensively for the first time. She'd spent her whole life afraid and upset but she was not going to take it anymore. So caught up was she in her feelings of anger that it took Anna's supposed fiancé, Hans, calling out to her to bring her back to herself. "Don't be the monster they fear you are!" Time seemed to stop for a moment before a bolt from a crossbow cut the giant chandelier of ice above her head free and it came crashing down. Elsa managed to get out of the way but not fast enough and was knocked unconscious.
When she woke, Elsa was back in Arendelle but she was now imprisoned in the dungeon, her hands completely bound in metal shackles. Hans pleaded with her to stop the winter and Elsa explained again that she could not. Fearing for her life, the kingdom's safety, and the safety of her sister still apparently in the mountains somewhere, Elsa used her magic to break free of her restraints and escaped, fleeing once more across the fjord. This time however she was intercepted by Hans and was told that Anna had died, turned to ice because of her. Her worst fears had been realized and she was completely and utterly alone. Elsa collapsed to the ground and the blizzard that had been swirling around her stalled, everything going eerily still.
In the midst of her already substantial grief, Elsa thought she heard her sister cry out. When she turned to look, there was Anna, frozen into a statue of solid ice. Elsa continued to grieve, clutching tightly at her sister when all of a sudden Anna began to thaw out, somehow miraculously restored to life. Olaf explained that Anna's act of true love- throwing herself in front of Elsa to save her life- had melted the ice and healed her. Elsa was filled with a wonder and hope. There WAS a way to stop the winter. No longer afraid that her magic would continue to spread without a way to stop it, and consumed with love and joy at being reunited with her sister, Elsa was finally able to lift the ice and snow from Arendelle and restore the summer weather to the way it was meant to be.
No longer living in fear, Elsa resumed her role as Queen of Arendelle working to repair her relationship with her sister and prove herself a worthy ruler to follow in her parents footsteps.
Game Information:
Elsa's life has turned completely upside-down in the recent days. She's gone from a frightened shut-in, to a stately queen, her secret ice powers exposed and no longer a secret. If that wasn't enough, a few days later reports of a mysterious mist encircling the entire kingdom began to roll in and soon it could be seen from the palace covering them like a dome. Unsure what to do Elsa kept everyone inside while she decided but before she had to, the mist exploded in a rainbow of prismatic snow. She was under the impression that things were fine again but reports started rolling in that the land around them had changed. As if their kingdom had been picked up and placed somewhere else. In an attempt to figure out what is happening Elsa is planning to venture out and seek council from the trolls and see if they have any idea of what happened or how that can get back 'home.' Obviously the Ambassador will explain things to her, but for now everyone in the kingdom is confused and looking to her for answers she doesn't have.
I plan for Elsa to eventually learn the source of her powers. Though Elsa now knows how to 'shut off' her winter powers, she is a long way from understanding them. I'd like to have a thread where Kristoff takes Elsa to visit the trolls since they seem to be the only ones who know anything about her abilities. From there she might journey elsewhere for answers.
I was thinking of having Maleficent approach Elsa and tell her that if she and Arendelle stay out of the coming fight, Maleficent and the others will leave Arendelle alone. Whatever she decides it will impact her relationship with both sides of the fight. And probably Anna.
I'd like to eventually write Elsa into some sort of romantic relationship or at least find her some other friends because I think she is someone that craves human contact and people that understand her as much as she can't help trying to keep herself aloof and separate from others. I just feel like Elsa will love very very deeply.
Anything Else:
Elsa's father is brother to Queen Primrose of Corona making Rapunzel the cousin of both Elsa and Anna.

As the oldest sister, Elsa has one braid in her hair, while her younger sister Anna, has two.
It is stated in the book A Sister More Like Me that Elsa loves geometry. This is shown when she uses her knowledge of geometry to create her ice castle.

Elsa's body shuddered, startling her awake. Her eyes flew open and Elsa bolted into an upright position in her ornate bed. She clutched at the blankets with trembling hands as her eyes darted about the room. She let out a long shaky breath and felt the tension drain out of her body. She ran a hand through her hair which hung loose and wild around her shoulders. A dream. It was just a dream. She looked down and abruptly dropped the blankets. Ice had begun to collect along the edges of the comforter where her hands touched it and she felt her stomach twist.
Since she didn't get cold, she didn't need the blankets but the weight and shelter of them were oddly comforting when she tried to sleep. Of course, she didn't feel very comforted just then. Elsa stared at her hands, something she felt like she did a lot. She curled her fingers inward and took a deep breath, squeezing her fists tightly for a moment before opening them again, "Relax. It was just a dream." She parroted her thoughts out loud in an attempt to calm herself. She didn't like that nightmares could trigger her powers, even in such a minor way. She supposed it made sense though, when you were in a dream things felt so real and were just as frightening as when you were awake. This one had felt a little too real.
It had probably felt even more real because it had to do with the attack on her ice castle. She'd managed to subdue the first attacker that had made it into her sanctuary and was shoving another towards her balcony and the long drop below. In the dream, she did push him. She heard his cry as he fell and she felt... justified. Smug even. There was no guilt or remorse. It served him right for invading her domain. This was her palace her safe place and he had trespassed. In the dream she'd turned to deal with the other intruder when Hans and the others had arrived. She fought them back as easily as she breathed, reveling in the power she wielded. Others were pinned to the walls or clutching parts of their body where her ice magic had hit them and they were slowly freezing. Suddenly there was a sword at her throat though she had no idea how Hans had snuck up on her. Time seemed to skip and she was on the ground looking up at him, sword still uncomfortably close. "I guess you are a monster." The sword cut through the air and Elsa had woken.
Reaching down Elsa brushed away the ice from the blankets and sheets and delicately slid her legs over the side of the bed to stand up. The idea of going back to sleep just then was not in any way appealing. She walked to the window, unlatched it, and pushed it open letting the night air spill into her bedroom. It was warm and wrapped around her like the tousled blankets piled on her bed. The landscape of Arendelle opened up in front of her, slowly illuminating in the light of the rising sun. In the distance she could see the mountains and she felt a small smile on her lips, remembering her palace of ice situated up there somewhere nearby. Just having the knowledge that it was there soothed her. A place all her own that she could return to if she ever felt the need to get away for a while.
Elsa's stomach twisted again and she wrapped her arms around herself as visions from her nightmare flickered across her mind's eye. She didn't know what upset her more, the fact that she had been killed in the dream, or the fact that she had been responsible for the deaths of others. And had enjoyed it. Elsa looked away from the mountain. She knew she could never bring herself to harm anyone on purpose but at the same time hurting those men for trying to hurt her during the actual attack had pushed her past her limits. If Hans hadn't shown up when he did she honestly didn't know what would have happened.
Closing and relatching the window, Elsa cast a glance at her bed before heading towards the bedroom door and letting herself out. She still felt shaky and unnerved as she closed the door behind her and made her way down the hall. She didn't know what she expected Anna to do to make her feel better but in that moment she just didn't want to be alone. It was still very early and she doubted her sister would be up yet but she very gingerly knocked on the door and called out in a voice barely above a whisper, "Anna? Are you awake?" She paused a wry feeling welling up inside her as the irony of the situation struck her. She released an amused breath from her nose, "Do you- Do you wanna build a snowman?"
