Now that Facilier was living in Andalasia, he had to make good on the rumors some of the villains had heard about the former queen, Narissa, and where she might be hiding. He'd promised both sides that he'd get them information, but first, he wanted to investigate, to see if there was any truth to the rumors.
After all, the woman was the current king's stepmother; he would want to know whether or not she was back in Andalasia.
If she was, Facilier was going to have to decide what he wanted to do: should he go to the king and inform him that what he dreaded was going to happen, that his stepmother was going to try to take back the kingdom?
Or should he stay silent, to see what happened, to let the former queen's plans come to fruition?
Well, since he'd given Princess Aurora the information he had, it made sense to just wait it out, to see what happened. That way, each side would be on relatively equal footing, at least when it came to the information he had passed.
He couldn't really make a decision, though, until he knew what he was dealing with.
While he'd been thinking about all of this, he had come to the place where rumor said the queen was living. He hadn't taken a horse; he'd gone on foot, the way he usually travelled. Facilier couldn't afford a horse and he wasn't about to steal one for something like this.
Approaching the mouth of the cave, Facilier raised an eyebrow, glancing over at his shadow, which shrugged. It certainly didn't think a queen would resign herself to staying in a cave, but there was only one way to find out.
Facilier's cane appeared as if from nowhere, and the globe situated at the top of it blazed into life, lighting up the mouth of the cave in a purple glow.
The Creole man headed inside, hoping that the woman, if she was there, would ask questions first, shoot magic later.

((OOC: I took the liberty of starting a thread for you, dearest! Let me know if it's all right!))
At the very back of the cave, hidden from any outside view, Narissa sat poring over a map of the kingdom in dim candlelight. She was still disoriented after her sudden return, and couldn't figure out where in the kingdom she was.
She had taken some blankets from a house in the woods nearby, where she had found the map, and the cloth was all spread out over the floor of the cave. It was far from an ideal situation, but she had nowhere else to go. Once she found where she was, it would be easy to locate her old family estate, which she knew had been abandoned years ago.
The sound of footsteps in the cave brought the former queen's attention back to the present, and she stood abruptly. She snuffed out the candle with a small wave of her hand, mentally preparing to fight off the intruder if necessary.
Narissa was about to summon a fireball, but hesitated. She knew it would be risky to announce her presence right away. If whoever it was brought the news back to Edward, any chance she'd had of preparing for a battle for the throne would be lost. Fighting her stepson in the weakened state she was in would result in a painful loss, and if she chose to run instead she'd have to run far and fast to disappear from Edward's view.
The footsteps had gotten louder. There was a glimmer of purple light not too far ahead. A magic-user. Narissa was definitely at a disadvantage. Her magic was still recovering from the strain of maintaining her dragon form for so long, though it had replenished significantly by now. Still, she had strength enough to fight, if it came to that.
She summoned a small fireball and held it in a gloved hand, far enough away from her face that the interloper could not see her clearly--or so she hoped. She wasted no time in breaking the silence after revealing her presence, letting her voice drop to a low, slightly menacing tone as it echoed through the cave.
"I wouldn't come too close, if I were you..."

Facilier was close to giving up, to looking elsewhere when a ball of fire blazed into existence before his very eyes. Now, this Narissa had actual magic; she didn't deal in the realm of illusions and tricks the way he did. He was going to have to proceed carefully.
"I wouldn't dream of doing anything that might make you uncomfortable," he said, half smiling in the dim light. "I merely came to see if the rumors were true, to see if the true Queen had returned to Andalasia."
Of course, the Shadow Man didn't particularly think one way or the other about the current rulers, nor was he certain this woman could really be referred to as "the rightful queen." But he had to get her to trust him somehow, and since he couldn't see her, he couldn't read her. Which meant that he had to go on what he knew of her background. And playing on her vanity seemed like it would do the trick.
If it didn't, though, he was going to have to be prepared for something else. It would help if he could see her; he might be able to get some sort of read on her, then. As it was, he was just going to have to trust his instincts.
Even as Facilier was pondering all of this, his Shadow was poking into the corners of the cave, seeing what it could find. So far, nothing interesting had turned up, and it returned to its Master, acting the way a regular shadow should. Hopefully, the woman hadn't seen the unusual movement; she was holding a ball of fire, after all, which didn't do much for the eyes.
Looking around, hand still on his glowing cane, Facilier commented, "You seem like you could use some of the .... comforts of home. If you truly are the woman I'm seeking, I can bring you some ... necessities."
'True Queen'? Oh, Narissaliked the sound of that very much. It seemed she'd found herself a possible ally, though of course she wasn't about to let her guard down just yet.
"Where exactly did you hear these rumors, hmm?" Better not to flat-out reveal her identity. No, it was far better to test the man first, make sure he would tell her the truth when she asked--or find out how good of a liar he was.
Narissa knew exactly who would have initially spread the word about her return. Some people-and some creatures-had far too little sense to keep their mouths shut. It had been a mistake to try and contact anyone that soon, but her sudden reawakening had left her in a dizzy and desperate state in those first few days.
She was in full possession of her wits now, however, and she wasn't going to be thrown off her game by this smooth-talking magician's careful flattery.
Yet, his offer was incredibly tempting. She had no idea how long she'd have to stay here, so why not make the place more comfortable? The sorceress let the flame in her hand dim slightly, but kept her arm raised at face level. One could never be too careful, especially not in her position.
"All right, let's say I am the woman you're looking for. How do I know you'll deliver on your promises?"

Facilier couldn't help but smirk at the woman's question. If he was right about her, she would be thinking he'd heard the rumors from the trolls, which was not, in fact, the case. He'd heard the rumors of her return from a much more ... reliable source, though he wasn't going to reveal his connections quite yet.
"Let's just say a little birdie told me," he said, leaning on his cane. In a place like Andalasia, it wasn't impossible that that had been the case. There were more talking animals here than he'd ever encountered elsewhere, even when he'd made a habit of turning people into things like frogs.
Glancing over her rather meager furnishings, he raised an eyebrow at her question. "Well, Your Majesty, you don't know I'll deliver on my promise, but right now, there's really not much you can do except believe me. Unless you want to waste your precious magic on things like a comfortable bed," he added, smirk slipping onto his face. He wasn't that familiar with true magic to be certain, but he'd studied it, and he thought that she might still be recovering from some magical ordeal. Otherwise, she would have used her magic on him in some capacity, whether to force him to tell her the truth or simply to incinerate him. Which made him think that she didn't have her full powers quite yet.
He hoped that she did end up believing him; this whole "gathering information" thing he was doing could be potentially a lot more difficult if people didn't believe him.
"Besides," he added, enhancing the light pooling from the top of his cane, "do I look like the sort of person your enemies would trust?"
She narrowed her eyes at him, cursing her luck. The man seemed much cleverer than she'd bargained for. Then again, she hadn't expected anyone to find her in the first place--not until she was good and ready, at least. But since he had forced her hand, it was only fair to return the favour. A plan was beginning to take shape, something even this smart alec wouldn't be able to see coming until it was too late. Or so she hoped.
"I hate to admit it, but you make a good point." Her nose wrinkled slightly at the reminder of her dismal surroundings, and of her lack of power. He didn't know for certain that she was still recovering her magic, but it was clear from the way he was sizing her up that he suspected as much. She had to gain the upper hand, and fast, and that meant stalling for time while the plan she had been forming took its full shape.
"I'd kill for a decent bed." She said coolly, locking eyes with the man over the flame she still held to mask her face. A little intimidation could go a long way to helping her come out of this on top, but it was difficult to judge the success of her efforts in this dim light. "And what I wouldn't do for a fully stocked wardrobe--well, I'm sure you get the point."
Narissa nearly laughed at his question--all it had done was made him seem even more suspicious--but settled for raising an eyebrow at him in condescension. She gave him a once-over, gaze lingering slightly on the cane he held. It seemed to be the source of his power, though she couldn't be too sure of that. She was dealing with a tricky one, she reminded herself, and he may well have intended for it to look that way to throw enemies off the scent. After another moment of deliberation, she spoke. "No, I suppose you don't. But--" She held up her free hand to cut him off before he could reply. "You don't look like the sort of person I'd trust, either. I'll only accept your offer if you're willing to prove yourself trustworthy."

What little actual magic Facilier had once had had vanished with his Friends on the Other Side. He was back to relying on tricks and illusions (and his shadow) when he needed to at least appear to wield magic. The truth was, if Narissa took it into her head, she could very easily defeat him, without much effort. If she used magic, anyway.
Which was why he had to rely on wits and guile, when it came to wriggling out of potentially unpleasant situations. He needed to keep his wits about him; he was sure that the woman called Narissa was sizing him up, trying to figure out how much of a threat he was. Because if he'd been in her position, he would have been doing the same. Her wording showed him that he was correct. She'd kill for a decent bed.
"Well, Your Majesty, it won't have to come to that," he said smoothly. "Besides, you wouldn't want to kill anyone right now; it would raise suspicions. And I'm sure you want to keep dear, dull Edward from knowing you're around until you're ready to make your move."
Facilier watched the woman carefully, trying to gauge her reaction in the dim light. Was he on the right track or would he have to change tactics?
"And as for a decent wardrobe, well, that can be easily managed." Truth was, though he didn't have magic, he'd been studying. And he thought he could at least manage to get her a bed and clothes, even if he had to buy them. But he wasn't planning on that sort of thing. The King of this place seemed to enjoy his company; if he asked, he was sure he could obtain the things Narissa needed.
And if not, he could attempt to conjure them on his own.
((OOC: I kind of got lost in the middle. Let me know if you need more to work with.))
The flame in her hand flared up at the mention of her stepson's name. Narissa kept it burning high, gritting her teeth at the realization that if she hadn't given herself away yet, she surely had now. Whoever he was, this man wasn't stupid.
"Speaking of suspicion," She hissed. "You still haven't said or done anything to prove your honesty, and if you keep dodging the question, well--" Narissa gestured with the hand that still held the flame. "You can draw your own conclusions, I think."
Though she didn't have too much of a problem with the thought of dispatching the man here and now, she hoped he wouldn't call her bluff. She wanted that bed, and those clothes, and she wanted them as soon as possible. Being out in nature was nice, once in a while, but right now the natural world was far too close to her for comfort. Besides, if he had the power to bring her decent furnishings, he may well possess power enough to defend himself, and she wasn't about to let an enemy escape her alive in her current position.
Of course, there was no need to make an enemy of him at the moment. Hadn't she unwittingly pushed Nathaniel away from her with such tactics? And hadn't that led to her downfall? She let the flame grow dim once more. Narissa sighed. "My problem with your offer is that I don't understand what your reasons for helping me are. I mean, what are you getting out of this deal? I find it hard to believe you're just doing this out of the goodness of your heart."

The Shadow Man watched the former Queen, keeping alert for anything that might give him the upper hand in this situation. Right now, whether she knew it or not, Narissa had more power. She was the one with true magic; all he had to rely on were a magician's tricks. But if she didn't know that, he could keep the illusion that he was the one in command of their current situation.
The flame in her hand flared as he mentioned Edward. It was clear to him that that was a sore subject. Hmm, perhaps he would stay away from that topic for now. It could be a good card to have in his deck for later, but for now, he'd stick to other things. Like how much she wanted the material possessions she'd once had.
"Easy there, Your Majesty," he said, putting his hands up to show that he wasn't planning anything against her. "I'm on your side, darlin'," he added, taking a step backward to give her more space and the illusion that she frightened him, even just a little bit.
A smirk slipped onto his face at her question; he couldn't help it. "Well, Majesty, as I'm sure you can tell just by looking at me, I'm not exactly one of the 'good guys.' I've seen what you're capable of and I admire your power. Plus, with you in charge instead of Mr. Goody Goody, I stand a much better chance of being allowed to live in peace. Or perhaps, something more than just peace." He was gambling now, but he thought he was on the right track.
She couldn't help but sneer slightly at his attempt to appease her. 'Darlin' was certainly not a proper term to address a queen, or even a former monarch. Still, there did appear to be a touch of honesty to his display of fear and awe. He did seem genuinely interested in helping her.
And his argument made sense. She knew now how it felt to be powerless, under the thumb of the 'heroes' of Rohandor. She was willing to do whatever it took to change the balance of power, why wouldn't a fellow so-called villain want to aid in her efforts?
It couldn't do any real harm to accept his offer, anyway, not when she had plans to find herself a new hideout. If he did have plans to betray her somehow, the worst he could really do would be to continue to spread the rumours of her return that were apparently already flying through the kingdom.
Narissa sighed, and dimmed the flame in her hand back to a less threatening level. "All right. As much as I despise asking for help, I would appreciate your assistance in this. But that's all I'll require of you--I can and will take care of the rest myself."
It was a big enough risk allowing him to help her with this--even if he did prove trustworthy, Narissa wasn't about to let him in on her plans for reconquering Andalasia. If there was anything she'd learned from Nathaniel's betrayal, it was that even someone you thought was completely loyal could turn on you at any moment if you let the opportunity present itself and didn't keep them in check well enough.

Though he wasn't afraid of her, Facilier watched Narissa warily, keeping an eye on the flames she held in her hand. At the moment, that was the biggest threat. He was human; he wasn't exactly fireproof. But he hoped that he'd been able to get her to trust him, at least for now.
And apparently, it had worked, for the moment; she lowered the flames to a more .... comfortable level.
"Oh, I don't doubt that you can more than handle anything that might come your way, Majesty," Facilier said with a small smirk and a laugh. "And I know you don't need my help; I just want to try to make your comeback easier."
He watched her as he spoke, trying to figure out her next move. It was clear that she didn't want his help, but it was equally as clear that she did need help right now, much as she didn't want it. She'd even said as much, though he doubted he would be able to get any sort of admission from her again.
Facilier was slightly surprised that she'd agreed to his help, and he didn't expect her to share anything else. After all, she was a Queen without a country, one who would do anything to get her throne back. Why should she tell him anything? He was just here to observe and report, not that she knew that last part, of course.
"Where would you like me to have your things delivered, Majesty?" he asked, glancing around the cave once more, "Knowing your impeccable tastes, I have a hard time believing that you'll be here for very much longer."
The more he spoke, the less she trusted him. Not that she needed to trust him, exactly, as she didn't intend on dealing with him again, but it would have been better for her plans. Now she'd have to figure out a way to gain the upper hand once more. She wouldn't be surprised if upon his return he attempted to blackmail her, and she wanted to be ready for any eventuality.
At least she likely wouldn't have to worry about him running off to snitch to someone like Edward--even that idiot boy should be able to spot someone with less-than-pure intentions. Except, of course, he'd never suspected her...
She ignored his compliments--by now it was obvious that he was only trying to butter her up so she would let down her guard, but why, she couldn't say. Instead, she focused on the question he'd asked. "I'll meet you a few leagues east of here, in this clearing." She made a motion with her hand, and the fire swirled into an image of a small glade surrounded by trees. "After sunset tomorrow. A bed, and clothes, and a few candles should be all I need."
Narissa navigated around the underlying question about the permanence of her lodgings. Yes, if she had her way, she'd find another, more comfortable hiding spot--and if her new 'friend' here told anyone where she was, she'd have to find it fast--but he didn't need to know that. However, there was still one thing she needed to know before she let him leave. "I don't believe I caught your name..." It would be easy for him to give her a fake name, but she was confident she'd be able to tell if he did--and if he did lie about his name, that would tell her much, much more.
