Character Name: Hades
Gender: Male
Type of Creature: God
Rank: Elite
Movie/TV Series: Hercules
Home Island: Isle of the Mountain
Personality:
As the ruler of the Underworld with authority over the dead, Hades tends to be one of the more solitary Gods of Olympus though that is not by any means his choice. When the Gods were being handed out their assignments, Hades was dealt the Underworld, realm of the dead. He lives there generally secluded from the others in his full time gig beneath the Earth's surface instead of enjoying the 'easy' life up on the peak of Mount Olympus.
This alone has made Hades more than a little jealous, bitter and vengeful towards Zeus who put him in that position, longing to usurp his throne. Though he has shown no active anger towards the other Gods, it is acceptable to say that he views them as acceptable collateral damage in his pursuit of vengeance against his brother.
He is extremely short and hot-tempered, easily angered, as often demonstrated outwardly by a fiery aura. The angrier he gets the more fire appears around him and when he is at his angriest, the fire even changes color to be a more typical orange color.
Hades has a very unusual demeanor as far as Disney Villains go. He tends to be very comical, cynical, and sarcastic as well as a very fast talker. He is a shrewd bargainer, always ready to wheel and deal. When he is trying to get something he is very persuasive and can come off very charming and reasonable. When he does take part in deals with others he tends to always come out on the better end of it.
As a God, Hades views time differently than mortals since he has an unlimited supply of it. He can use that time in order to create involved and complex schemes not having to worry necessarily how long they will take to play out. He is also extremely ruthless when he has to be, only looking out for himself for the most part.
Powers, Skills, and/or Any Other Abilities:
The extent of Hades powers is not ultimately known though it is clear from the events that took place in Hercules that he is not all powerful. The other Gods could easily come together and overpower him if they had to which is why he had to wait until specific events would make it possible for him to take over. It is possible that he has more powers than he has demonstrated in the movie.
Immortality: As a God of Olympus, Hades will live forever and cannot be killed.
Teleportation: Hades can disappear and reappear in different places both near or far instantaneously without becoming fatigued.
Creating Basic Objects: He can create permanent inanimate objects that are solid and substantial such as the 'sucker' he created for baby Hercules.
Create Illusions: Hades can create illusions to help him in his bargaining decisions. Much like when he was trying to manipulate Meg into helping him and showing her the past with the man she had traded her soul to save.
Power over the Dead: As the Lord of the Underworld and Dead, Hades seems to have control and responsibility to tend the souls of those that have passed on. They become his property and he has the ability to restore those to life, as demonstrated with Megara, though he doesn't do that without reason as to avoid upsetting the balance.
Bargainer: Hades is big on wheeling and dealing. If he can give a little to get a lot, he is willing to do so, although most of the time those making the bargain with him end up on the short end of the stick as he tends to stack the deck in his favor.
Weaknesses/Flaws:
Though Hades is powerful, he is certainly not 'all powerful.' Any of the other gods or goddesses would be a potential challenger for him and if they all banded together, they would easily overcome him.
It is also possible that a powerful magic user or magic users could bind him or his powers. Or find a way to summon or channel his powers.
Hades also has a HUGE temper that if he's not careful can cause him to behave in a manner that is not beneficial for him and make debilitating mistakes.
Hades LOVES a good bargain. He likes to wheel and deal in order to trick mortals into giving him their souls or even just running errands for him. He is very good at making deals that are only beneficial to him but he certainly has made his share of mistakes. (Like when Megara got hurt and Hercules got his strength back causing him to lose the battle against the Olympians.)
Full-time job: Hades is in charge of the souls of the afterlife. He has to be around to monitor and keep an eye on things so he doesn't have the freedom the other gods do.
Canon History:
Hades is one of the Greek Gods of Olympus. Unlike the other Gods and Goddesses in his pantheon, Hades does not call Mount Olympus home. Instead, as Lord of the Dead, he rules over the underworld caring for the spirits and souls of those mortals that have passed on over the centuries.
His occupation was not one that he would have chosen for himself. He always felt slighted and cheated at not being able to lounge about on the peak of Mount Olympus like his fellow Gods and Goddesses. Particularly his brother, Zeus the King of the Gods, who had been the one to designate Hades to be the caretaker to the underworld.
Long had he spent plotting and planning his revenge and takeover of Olympus and then the rest of the world and anything else. He had never accepted his fate, always feeling that he had been dealt an unfair hand and had sworn that someday he would have all that he felt entitled to.
Hades hated Hercules before he was even born. Now if something happened to Zeus, rule of the Gods and their domain would fall to the child and not to him or one of his and Zeus's brothers. He attended the party that was thrown for Hercules wanting to size up the new threat.
After that, he returned home where he had a meeting with the fates. They told him:
"In eighteen years precisely, The planets will align ever so nicely.
The time to act will be at hand. Unleash the Titans, your monstrous band.
Then once-proud Zeus will finally fall and you, Hades, will rule all!
A word of caution to this tale... Should Hercules fight, you will fail."
Hades knew then that he had to get Hercules out of the picture. He sent his minions Pain and Panic to kidnap Hercules and use a potion to take away his immortality and then dispatch him. Pain and Panic were able to give him the potion, but Hercules didn't finish drinking the entire vial. Because of that, he ended up retaining his superhuman strength and was able to defeat Pain and Panic even as a baby.
Pain and Panic opted not to tell Hades that they had failed. Hades remained unaware that Hercules hadn't been properly dealt with until the full eighteen years later. When he finally did discover it, he decided to take matters into his own hands. He threw every single terrible and ferocious creature he could recruit at Hercules. They were all defeated and Hades only succeeded in accelerating Hercules 'Hero' status.
Frustrated, he decided to try a different tactic, sending one of his 'minions', Megara, after Hercules to discover his weakness in exchange for her freedom. Hades had taken Megara's soul when she had offered to trade herself to save her boyfriend's life. In the end Hades discovered that it was Megara herself that turned out to be Hercules' greatest weakness.
He exploited Hercules' feelings for her and tricked him into temporarily trading his strength for Meg's safety. Finally feeling that he had solved the problem of Hercules interfering with his plans, Hades released the Titans and attacked Olympus. He even sent the Cyclops to kill Hercules for good measure.
Unfortunately, Megara was injured and therefore the bargain Hades made with Hercules was broken which Hades becomes aware of when Hercules shows up at the battle and saves the Olympians. Hades is furious at this turn of events but he yells to Hercules that he will at least take away a consolation prize.
Hades claimed Megara's soul when she died of her injuries during the battle. Hercules fought his way to Hades in the underworld and offered to trade his own life for Meg's. Hades knew that the deal was too good to be true but it was also too good to pass up.
He told Hercules that as long as he would retrieve her soul himself, he would be allowed to set her free. Swimming through the water caused Hercules to age at a rapid rate, and he was dying even as he swam desperately towards her soul. Hades waited smugly thinking that there was no way Hercules was going to crawl out of there alive.
Unfortunately for Hades, Hercules' selfless sacrifice finally made him a 'true hero' thereby restoring his God-hood. A punch from Hercules sent Hades flying into the River Styx where the souls of the dead began clamoring and pulling at their master.
Game Information: After Hades awoke from his time in the Forever Stone he agreed to band together, joining Maleficent's Vile Society. He has resumed his duties as Lord of the Underworld continuing to plot his revenge on not only those that aided in his failure at the battle for Mt. Olympus but also those who imprisoned him in the Sleep of Ages.
Anything Else:
Hades rules over the largest 'kingdom' that is specifically his.
Hades appears as a blue-gray humanoid with flaming hair and a smoky base.

Opportunity. It was something Hades was always looking for and something he was all too skilled at spotting. Ever since he had victory torn from his grasp by that inconvenient demigod he had been looking for any opportunity to dish out the vengeance on Hercules that he so imminently and desperately deserved.
"Hey there snowflake." Hades leaned casually against a tree as he assessed the white-haired girl who's eyes now searched the surrounding area for the source of his voice, "Aren't you just the little lost lamb." He'd spotted her walking through the forest, staring around as if she'd never seen a tree before, and begun following her. A tiger stalking its prey.
The girl spun around more quickly than Hades had expected, a fierce look on her tanned face and a dagger suddenly in her hand. Hades, though well aware that there was very little the mere mortal could do against him, threw his hands up defensively in front of his body anyway, "Hey hey woah woah woah, easy there, down girl. I come in peace. Parley or... whatever."
The girl's intelligent eyes studied him astutely, her head tilted slightly to the side as she deliberated. She must have decided he wasn't going to pounce on her and lowered the knife slightly and her stance relaxed. Though not very much. She raised her head and stared at him with eyes that were used to getting answers when she asked a question, "Who are you?"
A slow smile spread across his lips and one side of his mouth quirked up, expression thoroughly amused. "Name is Hades, Lord of the Dead, hi, how ya doin?" He shoved his shoulder at the tree he was leaning on to propel himself upright once more moving forward and slightly out of the shadows, black smoke swirling around him.
"The dead?" The girl's expression remained somewhat neutral though her eyes widened warily, "Are you... the god of these strange lands?"
"Something like that." He said casually, tossing the comment away as though it were completely unimportant and irrelevant. "But what matters is that I can help you with your problem." He continued smoothly, not missing a beat. The girl continued to eye him warily though she finally lowered the knife. Hades noted that she didn't put it away just yet.
There was a pause before she responded, her words slow as if she were taking great care in choosing them. "What makes you think I have a problem? You don't even know who I am."
"That's where you're wrong my little snow bunny." Hades held up a hand and began casually ticking off his next words on his fingers, "Your name is Kidagakash. Princess Kidagakash of Atlantis. You have somehow magically been transported to this unknown location- which by the way is Greece- and you have no idea how you are going to get home again. Am I right?"
She again didn't answer right away, instead staring at him as though she could peel away his layers with her eyes to discover his true purpose there. Finally she nodded, "Yes. You are correct."
"Well it is your lucky day princess. I- like so many fairy Godfathers- can make your dreams come true."
"You can send me home?" Kida asked, a note of hope in her still very wary tone.
"Oh absolutely princess," Hades said dramatically, his tone heavy with reassurance. She started to open her mouth but Hades halted her words by continuing his sentence, "But before I can, I'm afraid I have to ask you for a teensy favor first." Hades floated back to her placing his hands on her shoulders speaking over one shoulder and then swooping his head over her other, "A good friend of mine once said 'You can't get something for nothing.'"
Kida's defenses seemed to shoot up again and she jerked away spinning around to face him again. "Thank's anyway but I think I'll figure it out on my own." She told him curtly, resolve suddenly all over her face. She started to turn away.
Hades swooped around in front of her, "Hey hey hey! Now wait just a minute." He placated, "Don't run off so fast. You haven't even heard me out! It's hardly a favor at all. More of a drop off. A delivery. Something of a house call." Hades spoke quickly and smoothly. One thing he had learned over the centuries was that the faster he closed a deal the better. He tried to never give them time to think or weigh the consequences.
Hades pulled out a small vial of bluish liquid and slipped an arm around Kida's shoulders. He could feel her tense at his touch but she didn't pull away. He held the vial in front of her. "I need you to go into that town and find someone named Hercules. Once you find him you need to get him to drink this. He knows what it is so would never drink it out of this vial. Put it in his drink or on his food. It's tasteless so he won't know."
Kida turned her head to look at him incredulously, "Why would I do that? I don't know what it is or what it will do to him. Not to mention I have no idea who he is."
"Herc." Hades said his name melodramatically, like a parent who was fed up with a child's behavior but still loved them, "He's such a macho guy he thinks he can handle anything. Ever since he lifted up Aphrodite's shrine to sweep under it he's been complaining about his back. I concocted this potion which will help him feel better but he refuses to take it. Thinks he's invincible. Now he won't accept anything from me because he thinks that I may have slipped it in there. He doesn't know you so I'm thinking you could figure out a way to get it to him without him knowing."
Kida stared at the vial, clearly turning over the proposition in her mind again and again. "Well..." She said finally reaching out to take the vial, "I suppose I could try." She still looked hesitant but it was no skin off Hades' back if she did it or not. If she did it, he'd send her home as promised and Hercules would once again be without his strength. If she didn't, she'd be stuck here and have to work the problem on her own. There were other ways to get at Hercules, this bargain, if successfully carried out, would just make his life a little easier.
"Fantastic!" He said giving her shoulders a squeeze, "Thanks babe, you're the best." Hades glided to stand in front of her. "After he's drunk it meet me back here and you'll have your one way ticket 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea."
"But... how will you know-"
"I'm a god," He responded as if that were the most ridiculous question she could have asked. Hades turned to go then before pausing to call over his shoulder, "Oh and one more thing, it's probably best you don't mention you talked to me, it might, you know, tip him off. Good luck!" And with that he vanished in a blaze of blue flame.
