Character Name: Elisa Maza
Gender: Female
Type of Creature: Human
Rank: Force of Good
Movie/TV Series: Gargoyles
Home Island: Isle of the Statue
Personality:
Elisa is a good soul and has an extremely strong will. She is down to earth, kind-hearted, caring, and loyal to her family and anyone that she calls friend. She is a selfless individual always willing to put innocent strangers before even her own well being. She has always had a burning desire to protect those who need protecting which is one of the reasons she bonded with the gargoyles so quickly.
She feels as though it is her job to protect the gargoyles from the harsh realities of the 20th century. For that reason she was initially hesitant to share their existence with anyone for fear that they might be captured or taken advantage of. She also had more selfish motivations, enjoying being able to keep them all to herself to a certain extent. She liked that she was the one human they would always come to. She always tried to make them feel at home in the clock tower bringing them food, supplies, other amenities that they wouldn't have been able to obtain on their own.
Elisa has a thick skin. Though the world claims that it is color blind and though she never suffered any outright discrimination in the actual series, she had to work hard to get to where she was and had to deal with some ridicule as a child because of her mixed heritage. Due to her mixed heritage and multi-cultural upbringing she is very accepting and tolerant of others lifestyles and religions.
If you are her enemy she will do whatever she needs to do to bring them down. Hurting and manipulating those she loves is an excellent way to get bumped up to the top of her list. She can be impulsive at times which has gotten her into trouble every now and again. Elisa is very firm in her beliefs and if you end up on her bad side and lose her trust, it is very difficult to get back into her good graces and earn it back.
Elisa is extremely stubborn. She tends to believe that she can solve any case on her own no matter how difficult if given enough time which has also gotten her into trouble among other issues with her stubbornness. She has a bit of a temper as well.
She has a good sense of humor and is often teasing the gargoyles or others in her life. Though she is sarcastic, she isn't cynical about it. She loves her life and her job.
Powers, Skills, and/or Any Other Abilities:
Police Officer: Elisa is a cop which automatically grants her certain character traits. She is very strong in her belief in the law and the justice system. She is brave and selfless, willing to throw herself into any situation to protect the innocent no matter what the danger to herself. As a police officer she is also a detective and therefore is trying to solve crimes on a daily basis. This makes her clever, quick-witted, resourceful, and very observant. Along the same lines she is also somewhat skeptical, analyzing every scenario from every possible angle until she finds the answer. She also knows her way around many different kinds of firearms.
Athletic/Strength: Though she is by no means He-Man or the Hulk, she is a cop and therefore received certain training and is expected to be in peak physical condition in order to allow her to do her job to the best of her abilities. This makes her stronger than the average female and able to take on men larger than her.
Adaptability: Elisa is extremely adaptable to any situation able to take even the most absurd scenarios in stride. Especially after the world tour that Avalon sent her and her gargoyle friends on she can easily get information and make acquaintances as needed.
Actress/Theatrics: Elisa is a Broadway worthy actress and is a master of disguise. She often has to go undercover for her occupation and does it flawlessly able to act convincingly in any role required of her.
Loyal/Caring: Elisa is extremely loyal to those she calls her friends, particularly the gargoyles. She helped them adapt to the new world they woke up in and find a new home when Xanatos stole their old one. She will do anything and everything to make sure that her friends and family are safe and will do anything and everything for them.
Degree in Psychology/Good judge of character: Elisa is an excellent judge of character. She has degree in psychology and deals with people of different moral ground on a daily basis giving her excellent experience to draw from. She doesn't take anything at face value and was able to see even upon their first meeting that Goliath was someone she could trust and befriend despite his monstrous appearance. Her degree helps her on many levels when analyzing, assessing, or dealing with other people particularly ones of low ethics such as Xanatos.
Weaknesses/Flaws:
Though slightly stronger and more athletic than an average female, Elisa is human and therefore subject to the vulnerabilities and weaknesses that it entails.
Temper/Reckless/Headstrong: Elisa can sometimes be a little single-minded when she has a particular goal she is trying to achieve. When it comes to 'crime bosses' like Tony Dracon she can be brutal, willing to do whatever it takes to bring them in, wanting them off the street so they can't hurt innocent people anymore. Her fellow officers sometimes have to talk her down during the times when she gets extra frustrated with the system and remind her that they have to work within the law or the verdict's won't stick.
Police Officer: Elisa is a police officer and therefore has to work within the confines of the justice system. There have been a few times when Elisa had to stay out of Goliath and the other gargoyle's confrontation because she didn't feel comfortable working outside of the law. She also tends to put herself at risk more often than not trying to protect innocent people.
Canon History:
Elisa was born to Peter and Diane Maza and is the oldest in her family. Her brother Derek is 2 years younger than her and her sister Beth is the youngest of their family and 7 years younger than her. She majored in Psychology at Columbia and then followed her father's footsteps, joining the NYPD and quickly rose to the rank of Detective Second Class in the 23rd Precinct.
She first came in contact with the gargoyles while investigating a disturbance at the Eyrie Building owned by Xanatos. She made her way up to the rooftop where she first met Goliath. She was startled and frightened by both his and Bronx's appearance and in backing away from them accidentally tripped and fell over the wall and off the battlements of Castle Wyvern.
Goliath saved her life and the two of them were fast friends, bonding over their mutual belief in their duty to 'protect and serve.' She was easily convinced that he and the others weren't monsters and even felt an emotional connection and even an attraction to Goliath right away which only grew the more she got to know him better and spent more time with him and his clan. (This attraction was brought to a head when Goliath was briefly changed into a human and Elisa was briefly changed into a gargoyle.)
Elisa was so often with the gargoyles as their closest human friend helping them and assisting them in any way she could. She continued to earn their trust and respect and after a time they made her an honorary member of their clan. Eventually others would come to know of their existence.
She was the one that convinced the gargoyles that it was too dangerous to remain living in Castle Wyvern with Xanatos and to move to the clock tower above the police station and inspired them to their new purpose of protecting the inhabitants of New York.
Elisa has undergone many hardships since meeting the gargoyles as well; Demona, Goliath's ex-mate has it out for her and has been targeted a number of times by the vengeful gargoyle; She was accidentally shot by Broadway and barely survived the surgery that followed; Finally, her complicated feelings towards Goliath have been a big issue for her. Though the two of them finally revealed their feelings to each other, it doesn't make the idea of a relationship between the two of them any easier to deal with. She spent a long time trying to hide her feelings from him but even when she tried to begin a relationship with someone else, Goliath was always in her heart.
She also has a particular hatred for Xanatos and Dr. Sevarius. Xanatos lured her brother Derek into a job with his company and then he and Sevarius conspired to infect Derek with a mutagen that later turned him into Talon, a panther-like humanoid with black leathery wings. Though she tried to warn her brother, he wouldn't listen. They have since made amends but the damage has been done to Derek, solidifying her hatred for Xanatos.
Along with all her issues that were mostly due to her involvement with the gargoyles and their lives, she also has to deal with Tony Dracon, her mobster nemesis from her job on the police force. She's done everything she could to bring him down including going undercover to infiltrate his gang.
Her biggest adventure came when she, Goliath, and Bronx traveled to Avalon. After helping the Avalon clan beat back the Archmage, the trio, along with Goliath's biological daughter with Demona, Angela, took a boat to travel back to Manhattan but instead found themselves on a world tour meeting many different kinds of gargoyles and making friends across the globe on their adventures.
After finally returning home months later much to the relief of her family, friends, and 'clan', Elisa was assigned a new partner, Jason Conover. Elisa found herself enjoying his company and surprisingly attracted to him. This attraction forced to her to finally face her feelings for Goliath finding herself unable to be with Jason when she felt so strongly for Goliath.
It was revealed however that Jason Conover was an alias and that his real name was Jason Canmore, the oldest of three siblings and all hunters that had come to kill the gargoyles. Thankfully and due to a number of events Jason and his sister Robyn decided to give up their mad crusade and make peace with the gargoyles. Their third sibling, Jon, however would not make peace and fled to fight another day.
Game Information:
Though she and Goliath have finally admitted their feelings for each other she struggles with the idea of being in a relationship with him. She wants a family and to have children, something she knows she can never have with him.
She still visits them every day and continues to work her 'day' job as a detective. She is extremely concerned at what the Forever Stone 'breakout' could mean for herself and the gargoyles since no one is sure who exactly had been imprisoned there.
On top of that she is still getting used to not only the gargoyles being in the public eye, but also having moved back into Castle Wyvern owned by Xanatos. She can't help distrusting him despite his seemingly noble motivations.
Anything Else:
She is a member of the NYPD 23 precinct and her badge number is 16123.
Elisa is of a mixed heritage, half-African American on her mother's side and half-Native American(mostly, but not exclusively, Hopi) on her father's.
Elisa was born and bred in New York. She lives with her pet cat Cagney in a top level apartment in SoHo with a balcony and a large window providing easy access for the gargoyles when they visit. She drives a classic red car.
Though she doesn't live with them, she is considered a member of the Manhattan Clan, both by herself and by the gargoyles.

"Angela!" Elisa ran over to the young female gargoyle and reached out to help her sit up. "What happened?"
"I don't know." Angela reached up and touched her head.
Elisa frowned as her eyes flitted over Angela's form. There was a tear in her wing and there were patches of blood on her though Elisa couldn't tell if she was bleeding herself or if she had gotten someone else's blood on her.
"I remember I was flying..." Angela said, her face creasing in thought, "...and I thought I saw a silhouette... another gargoyle. I flew towards him and... he shot me with something." Angela's words were becoming more intense as she spoke, clearly angry that someone had the gall to attack her.
"Did you see who it was?" Elisa pressed.
"I... I actually thought it looked like Goliath but... father would never do anything like that." Angela added that last part as though begging Elisa to confirm that last statement.
"You're right. Goliath would never hurt you." Elisa assured Angela, putting a hand to her chin as she tried to think of what could have happened. She had an uneasy feeling in her stomach. What if something had happened to Goliath? What if he was under someone's control? It had happened before, what was to stop it from happening agai-
Even as that thought crossed her mind something even more disturbing pushed that thought aside. What had that letter said? The 'Forever Stone' had been compromised and that anything that had been contained within was now loose?
Could Thailog have been in there? Yes, Demona had killed him but there were many beings that were thought to be dead that were now 'back on the streets' so to speak. Not wanting to worry Angela in her already frazzled state, she decided to keep the information to herself till she had more time to think of it and something more substantial to go on. "Come on," She said slipping one of Angela's arms around her neck and helping her to her feet, "Let's get you home and cleaned up."
