"Thanks for the directions Cinnamon, this is actually my first time in London. So what exactly does a hansom cab do?" Tarzan asked his new friend.
"Well son, it provides safe and rapid transportation for anyone looking to get around the city. It's a decent living and good exercise. You should look into it, strong young fella like yourself."
The conversation came to a halt as a tug on the reins caught Cinnamon's attention, the driver on the back of the cab finally having gotten over the shock of watching Tarzan not only talk to his horse but carry on a conversation in neighs, whinnies and snorts. Cinnamon clopped his front hooves as he got ready to move.
"Sorry son. I'd best get back on duty before this fella starts thinking he's in charge again. Enjoy your visit."
"Thanks. I'll see you later maybe."
At least this horse was more sociable than Daredevil. A short while back the Headless Horseman had turned up in the Jungle and had began rampaging around trying to burn everything. Tarzan had managed to repel him with the help of the young girl Alice, as well as Terk and Tantor, but the Porter's camp had taken a bit of a beating. The trading post had some supplies but it was short stocked given the panic that the rider had caused, not to mention that it didn't even stock certain items. Given the ferry system and the ease of travelling these days, Jane had talked Tarzan into coming with her to London to pick up some essentials while assuring him that the Jungle could take care of itself for a short while.
So here he was, fully dressed in his suit (polite society didn't appreciate bare chested jungle warriors apparently) and taking in the sights and sounds of Jane's original homelands. There was plenty to get used to. Like the fact that you had to follow the streets and roads to get anywhere and that climbing onto the rooftops for a shortcut was frowned upon, not that the smooth walls allowed for a good climbing surface anyway. At least the people were friendly and there were plenty of animals to make the transition a little more comfortable. Between the dogs, horses and pigeons Tarzan was getting a feel of the city already. He turned back to Jane as Cinnamon trotted off pulling his cab.

With everything that Tarzan had told her about what happened with the Headless Horseman, Jane was both glad and a little bit upset that she'd been far away, camping out with Daddy, when everything had occurred. She might have been able to help, after all! But she knew that Tarzan was an excellent fighter, when he needed to be; she would have just gotten in the way. And she knew that. But she could have at least helped tend his wounds.
....maybe it was a good thing she hadn't been there, after all; it would have just worried her, seeing her husband fight such a creature. But, with the creature's appearance in the jungle, with all the destruction that had happened, that meant that the Porters needed to replenish their supplies.
Dumont didn't have everything at the trading post, but it was so much easier to travel between the jungle and London, let alone to other realms here in Rohandor; Jane had managed to convince Tarzan that the jungle would be all right without him for a few days, that they could board the next ferry that came into port, be off to London to get more supplies, and be back home within the week. Besides, the whole trip meant she could finally show him the city in which she'd grown up!
Daddy had insisted that Tarzan don the suit that the late Lord Greystoke had left for his son; it wouldn't do for his son-in-law to wander about London in nothing but a loincloth, even if that was his everyday apparel. Jane didn't mind either way, but she had to admit that Daddy had a point; it wouldn't be nearly as easy to go to the shops and get what they needed if Tarzan made the shopkeepers uneasy.
Jane thought Tarzan looked rather dashing in his suit, really, but they weren't here for that. They were here to see London and to gather up what they needed. Thankfully, their bank still had all of the Porters' accounts. Jane had gone in to take out some funds, and when she returned, Tarzan was conversing with a horse.
A smile slipped onto Jane's face as she watched him. Tarzan would make a new friend wherever he went, as long as there were animals somewhere. As she was watching him, the horse and cabbie moved off, no doubt to get back to work, shuttling the London masses from place to place.
The young Englishwoman moved to stand beside her husband, slipping her hand into the crook of his arm and smiling up at him.
"Make a new friend, did we?" she asked with a smile. It was one of the things she loved about Tarzan.
((OOC: If I didn't give you enough to work with or if you don't like anything, let me know. <3))
Tarzan took the offered arm with a smile, thankful that Jane was patient with how distracted he could get when he met a new animal to talk with. He'd given her some help with ape and elephant speak so she could talk with Terk, Tantor and the others back home, so she could be closer to his family just as she'd invited him into hers. Now that she was back from the bank it was time for him to get to work, carrying all the supplies he could manage.
"Yes. His name was Cinnamon, he said that he takes people around London. So where are we going next?"
Now that he was finally in London, despite his initial concerns, Tarzan was enjoying the scenery. It helped to find similarities to the Jungle rather than focusing on the differences. Both were densely packed, one with buildings and the other with trees. They were both heavily populated, here with people and their vehicles rather than large and small animals. Finally both lands had an expert to help their other out. Tarzan had helped out Jane when she first turned up in the Jungle and now she was showing him the ropes. Thankfully there was no equivalent to a crowd of angry baboons just yet, unless..
"Jane. Does London have a lot of these black and white, spotty dogs?" Tarzan lifted a leg to let one of them run underfoot and past him. "I've seen twenty seven of them since we arrived."
Were these the angry baboons? Tarzan reminded himself to just hand over what they wanted if they suddenly turned hostile. Maybe those posts with the lanterns on top would make a good place to avoid them.
ooc: Sorry, didn't know what else to add. Terrible/short post is short/terrible.

Jane smiled at Tarzan's words about his new friend, though she doubted, sadly, that they'd run into that particular horse and cabbie again during this trip. It wasn't impossible, certainly, but it was unlikely, given the sheer number of hansom cabs in London.
But then Tarzan asked her where they were going to go next and Jane was distracted from her momentary melancholy thought. They had plenty that they needed to do, yes, but she wanted to show Tarzan around a bit, first! Before she could voice this and offer a suggestion of one of the popular sights in London, a Dalmatian puppy ran by, prompting Tarzan to ask another question.
"I shouldn't think there's an abnormal amount of them here," Jane said, following the puppy with her gaze. "Though that does seem to be rather a lot in such a short time." Perhaps they'd had a population boom recently; she'd have to look into that if they had time. It could be quite an interesting subject to research, though she was much more familiar with jungle animals (namely gorillas) and their habits.
But she was allowing herself to get distracted. Shaking her head with a laugh, Jane turned her attention back to Tarzan, smiling up at him.
"Shall we see a few sights first or shall we get right down to business?" she asked, trying to figure out what the nearest attraction was, if they chose to be tourists first. She wanted to show him some of her favorite places, the way he'd done with her, when they'd first started getting to know one another and spending time with one another.
((OOC: Your post was neither short nor terrible. Mine, on the other hand, is decidedly both.))

Well, apparently the small dogs were non hostile, though even Jane seemed confused by the amount of them around London. Still, if they were nothing to be concerned about otherwise..
"What kind of sights?" Tarzan answered.
It wasn't that he was lazy or work shy by any means, but Tarzan tended to be easily distracted by new experiences or anything that sounded fun. With the ease that they could now travel back and forth between Isles and Kingdoms there was a lot more to see and hopefully enough time to see it all. Still, he was here to help out with some important work, especially considering he'd used some of the camp furniture to strike the Horseman on several occasions during the fight.
Temptation and responsibility were tugging him in either direction, resupplying or sights. Suddenly the shirt collar and tie seemed a lot more restrictive, causing Tarzan to tug on them slightly. At least Jane could help keep him on track, she was the smarter of the couple and he could always count on her guidance when things got confusing.
"I'd like to do the one that you want to do first."
A booming series of chimes sounded in the distance, coming from a large tower like building with a clock on it. By reflex Tarzan jumped between Jane and the direction of the tower in a 'ready to ponce' stance, up until he noticed everyone acting normally despite the sounds, at least the ones not staring at him. He rubbed the back of his head embarrassed as he stood upright again.

"Oh, there are all sorts of things to see in London!" Jane exclaimed, lighting up at the question. "There's Buckingham Palace, which is where the Queen lives; St. Paul's Cathedral, which is a beautiful, old church; oh, I have take you to Hyde Park!" she said, excited at the idea. London was a very metropolitan area, but it still had its sections of greenery, Hyde Park being a prime example.
Jane smiled at Tarzan as he pulled at his shirt and tie. She reached up and loosened both of them so that he was more comfortable, giving him a quick kiss on the cheek before she took his arm again. Apparently, they were going to do some sight-seeing first; the young woman was quite excited to be back in her home city, and she wanted Tarzan to be able to experience that same sort of excitement.
It was at that point that the clock known as Big Ben chimed the hour, which resulted in Tarzan leaping in front of her, to protect her from whatever it was that was happening. He stood straight up and apologized, looking sheepish for leaping to Jane's protection.
"It's all right, love," she murmured, taking his hand. "Come on; I want to show you the city before we're completely laden down with supplies," Jane decided, leading him in the direction of the first of many popular tourist destinations. London was rich with history and she wanted to share that with Tarzan.
((OOC: I keep typing "Jan." XD Let me know if this is okay, and feel free to elaborate or skip as much of the sight-seeing as you like!))
At least Jane was patient with Tarzan. He tended to react to any unknown sight or sound as a potential attack and leap to her protection. A whistling teapot, a car horn, a flickering lantern, or any strange animal. She always managed to reduce the humiliation he felt each time.
"They all sound good. How about the palace?"
When Jane, the Professor and Clayton first convinced Tarzan to leave the Jungle after he thought he was drifting apart from his gorilla family, they told him that he might get to meet all sorts of important people like the Queen. Probably not likely now, especially unannounced when she could be out doing...Queen things, but it wouldn't hurt to see her house.
and what a house it was. A massive gate in front of an even larger building with a lot of space around it. Having lived most of his life being happy enough with just a good treetop to sleep in, Tarzan couldn't imagine having to live in a palace. The Queen must get lost just trying to find her way around. Briefly the jungle man thought he saw a smaller version of the building with a well dressed mouse running inside, but was quickly distracted when he noticed the two men standing next to the gates in bright red coats and large black, furry hats.
"Hello." No response. "This is Jane and I'm Tarzan." Still nothing. "Did you come to see the palace too?"
Tarzan looked between the two men for a minute straight before turning back to Jane and shrugging.
"I don't think they can hear me. Maybe those hats are blocking their ears?"
St Paul's cathedral next, almost as big as the palace but the public were able to get closer to this one. Tarzan looked upwards awestruck at the pillars reaching all the way up to a pair of towers and a dome on the top of the building. Luckily he remembered his manners enough to ask a very important question first.
"I'm...not allowed to climb this am I?"
ooc: Jane, Jan, two Jen's. Was bound to happen XD I can add more to this if you like. Hopefully get Tarzan reactions for every tour sight.

Upon Tarzan's selection of the palace, Jane smiled brilliantly, leading the way to one of London's most historic landmarks. She'd gone by the palace a few times, but she'd never stopped to really appreciate the structure. It was truly massive; there were so many rooms that Jane thought she'd get lost just looking at it.
While she'd lived in a fairly decent sized home when she'd lived in London, Jane was quite content with her tree-top home; she didn't need luxuries, just the people she loved around her. They walked around the palace, taking in the breathtaking sight. Jane was quite curious about everything inside the palace, but the Queen was at home, and the gate was as far as they would be getting.
As they were headed out to see another site, Tarzan's attention was caught by the Palace guards. He tried to speak to them, to get them to reply to him, puzzled by the fact that they were simply ignoring him. Tarzan came to the conclusion that maybe the hats blocked their ears.
"Oh! They're the Buckingham Palace guards; they're not supposed to respond to anything, unless it's a legitimate threat," she said by way of explanation. "Apparently, people will come right up to them and say terribly rude things, just to see if they can get a reaction. Or make the best joke they know, in the hopes that the gentlemen will lose their composure." She couldn't imagine having that sort of job; she tended to laugh at the worst of jokes.
Since the Queen was home, though, there wasn't much point in sticking around the Palace; they'd seen what they could of the place. And now it was time to move on, to St. Paul's Cathedral.
This structure was open to the public, and it was one of Jane's favorite buildings in London. The architecture was amazing, and the sanctuary gave such a feeling of peace. Whenever she'd been having trouble dealing with the males that told her she couldn't help her father, she'd come here, just to sit, to bask in the peace that she felt.
Jane was quite pleased with Tarzan's reaction; she had been hoping that he would like St. Paul's as much as she did, and apparently, she'd been right. He wanted to climb the cathedral, which showed that he appreciated it.
"Sadly, probably not," she murmured. "If it were up to me, I'd allow you to climb whatever you liked," Jane laughed. "Do you want to go inside, love? See the rest?"
Seeing more new things with Jane was better than climbing any day. Tarzan followed eagerly, almost dropping into his all fours walk in his haste but managing to resist. If anything, the inside of St Paul's was even more impressive, it actually seemed bigger on the inside if that was possible. The jungle man walked slowly, trying to keep his steps within the black squares making up the pattern on the floor. Meanwhile he marveled at the, Jane had taught him this, mosaics? The pictures on the ceiling in any case. Candles around the building flickered lightly and a pipe organ at the far side of the cathedral was being played with a solemn song.
Tarzan didn't know much about religion, but he did like how peaceful St Paul's was. He didn't want to climb the building anymore, now he wouldn't mind just sitting down on the floor and enjoying the music a little. For now though he just followed Jane, trusting her guidance on where to go. The underside of the dome practically glittered, causing the apeman to squint slightly as he looked up at it.
"I think I see why you like this building." He smiled lightly at Jane. "Can we meet Saint Paul while we're here? Maybe he could visit our home some time."
Well, he wasn't perfectly up to date on history, but at least he was taking an interest.

Jane led the way into the cathedral, any worries she might have felt about leaving their jungle home without Tarzan's protection soothed by the high ceilings and the peace that emanated from the building itself. They made their way into the sanctuary and Jane looked around, a small smile slipping onto her face at the familiar sight. Towards the altar, an organ played, filling the space with solemn, beautiful music.
Taking Tarzan's hand, she led him through the structure, pointing out items of interest in hushed, reverent tones. She tried to explain everything as best she could, knowing that Tarzan would want as much information about what she was telling him as possible.
"I knew you would," Jane smiled in response to Tarzan's statement that he could see why she liked the building. "There's just something peaceful about it," she added, glancing around the structure once more. Perhaps it was because it was imbued with the worship of thousands of people that had been here before, perhaps it was because of the sheer size and reverence that people offered when they set foot in the place, but it was one of Jane's favorite places, regardless of the "whys."
It was at that point that Tarzan asked if they could meet Saint Paul. Jane smiled and shook her head, continuing their tour through the building. "St. Paul lived a very long time ago, love," she explained softly. "They named the church after him, to honor his importance." There was more to it than that, but that was the simplest explanation.
Well, Tarzan once again felt silly not knowing that St Paul wasn't around anymore. Hopefully it wasn't a bad ending like his parents of Kerchek. He did like the idea that someone could be so liked for what they did for others that people named a building after them.
"Someone should name a building after you Jane."
Another of his simple, yet sincere, statements. Jane had done a lot for Tarzan since they first met in the Jungle. She's taught him all kinds of things about the world outside the Jungle, showed him that he wasn't the only person like himself in the world and most of all returned the love he had for her in kind. If anyone deserved something named after her it was Jane.
Next was Hyde Park. Tarzan had seen a few other kinds of trees outside of the ones in the Jungle, such as the ones near where Narissa had dragged him to, or the burnt out ones that the Horseman had in his part of the world, but for once tall and vineless trees were more welcoming. He had to resist the urge to try climbing these ones, again assuming that Londoners didn't take kindly on climbing things in their city unless there was a good reason for it. The small lakes were also interesting, the ones with the strange pipes in the middle that spewed water into the air. Then there were the massive stone arches.
"Are they building a house here? It has a lot of doors on it."
Books only got Tarzan's knowledge of the world so far. Hopefully Jane wouldn't tire of his endless questions and misinterpretations of almost everything.

The young Englishwoman was still gazing around the cathedral when she heard what her husband said to her. A bright smile slipped onto her face as she slipped her hand into the crook of his elbow, enjoying the simple closeness. For anyone else, the statement Tarzan had just made wouldn't really make any sense, but Jane knew that it was his way of telling her that he appreciated her.
"That's a terribly sweet thing of you to say, my darling," she murmured, resting her head against his shoulder as they walked. Tarzan's words were simple, but they were sincere, and she adored him all the more for them. It had taken a little while, but she had fallen in love with him for things like that. He was one of the best men she'd ever met, and she loved him with all her being.
They made their way to Hyde Park, and Jane was more than content to simply stroll down the street to the legendary park, pressed close to Tarzan's side as they walked. Was this what life would have been like if he'd come with them back to England instead? It was certainly interesting to consider, but she wouldn't give up the life she currently had for anything in the world. Tarzan was at home in the jungle; he would have been ridiculously unhappy in the city. Yes, it had taken Jane and her father a bit of time to get used to living somewhere other than the city, but with Tarzan by her side, Jane felt like she could do anything.
A smile slipped onto her face at Tarzan's question and Jane shook her head. "There would be entirely too many doors," she agreed. "No, the arches aren't part of any building; they're often just for decoration, though in this case, there's more to it than that." She knew that Tarzan tended to worry about asking her too many questions, but quite frankly, Jane loved explaining things. Tarzan loved to learn, and she would be more than happy to help him in that endeavour.
As astounding as the sights were, Tarzan and Jane had to get back to business. It wasn't so bad though, they could come back anytime and it wouldn't do any good to see everything in one trip and be left with nothing new to see the next time.
The book store was first on the agenda, Alice had used a few thankfully replacable books as weapons against the Horseman to impressive effect. As Jane and the shop clerk picked out the tomes and volumes Tarzan followed behind carrying an ever increasing stack. Thankfully he could manage given his experience with balancing fruit while travelling through the jungle, but it did feel odd carrying the stacks in even piles while remaining grounded.
Eventually everything was replaced, paid for and the couple stepped outside to look for the next establishment on their agenda, only for a man to bump into Tarzan on the street.
"Oh, pardon me."
"No problem mate." The man took one look at Tarzan and Jane, then pulled his cap down to cover his eyes as much as he could before grabbing Jane's purse and running across the road.
"Hold this please!" Tarzan tossed the bag of books to the clerk as he took off after the thief.
A few carriages and cars that had skidded to avoid the first man now served as stepping stones for Tarzan to gain some height. By the time he reached the opposite street he was perched on a lamp post and searching for his target among the crowds. A familiar hat in the distance marked the prey, Tarzan let loose his trademark battle call as he jumped to a series of shop awnings to try and close the distance from above. He found it a little trickier to move in his suit and harder to navigate the unfamiliar streets compared to the trees back home, but Tarzan was tenacious if he was anything.
The chase continued down a back street, the thief stumbled over bins and loose rubbish whilst Tarzan bounded between window ledges. One pounce later and he had the culprit pinned, turning him over to growl right in his face for the insult he'd committed against Jane.

Their stroll through Hyde Park was lovely; it made Jane realize how desperately she'd wanted to show this city to Tarzan. She'd grown up here; she'd spent qutie a few afternoons just walking the city, finding good places to curl up and sketch. Not to mention spending time with her friends, though most of her free time was spent helping her Daddy with his research.
And that had turned out quite well for both of them. Daddy was completely in his element, even though the rest of the scientific community wouldn't really be able to appreciate his efforts, and Jane couldn't be happier. Yes, she occasionally wished for something she could only get back home, but it was so simple to obtain such things, now.
Which reminded her, they had to go get their supplies! Unfortunately, they couldn't spend all their time in Hyde Park; they had come here for a reason, after all. It wouldn't do to be unprepared, should another threat enter Rohandor. And with the Forever Stone breached, it was really only a matter of time before something reached their little corner of the jungle.
The book store was first. It wouldn't do to be without the knowledge they provided, especially if it was an area in which neither Jane nor her Daddy knew much. And there were plenty of those areas, after all.
When they reached the bookstore, Jane was in heaven. She loved living in the jungle with Tarzan, she really did, but she did miss books. Oh, of course, she and her Daddy had those they'd brought with them, but it wasn't the same, being able to go to the library or to a bookstore to find virtually any book she wanted.
While they were gathering all the books her Daddy needed, Jane added a couple of novels, just in case. One never knew when one would need a bit of leisure reading, after all.
Even though she wanted to spend much more time in the store, Jane knew that they had other things to do, things to see. And she reluctantly made her way to the front counter to pay for their selections.
"I think Daddy will be quite pleased by what we managed to pick up for him," Jane said with a smile, glancing down at the list she'd scribbled out that morning. "We got everything on his list, and a couple of new books that I know he'll simply adore."
She was going on about the particulars of each of her new books when a man bumped into them. "I beg your pardon," Jane said, not sure whether or not the man had bumped into them on purpose, but still, it was best to be polite.
Before she could turn to be on her way, the man snatched her bag (which contained all their money) and started running! Quick as a flash, Tarzan had dropped the books he'd been carrying and started off after the man.
"Tarzan!" Jane called after him, rushing to follow him. It was difficult, in these skirts, but she'd dealt with much worse.
"Excuse me, pardon me, let me through!" she shouted into the crowd, which eventually parted before her franticness. But she didn't know which way they'd gone. "The man in a suit, with quite long hair, probably running," she said, and quite a few people pointed her in the right direction.
"Thank you!" she called, running after them. It shouldn't be too difficult to find the two of them; she knew how Tarzan thought, after all. But she had to ask two more times before she came across them, quite out of breath.
Tarzan seemed to be fine, as usual, of course, but the thief was pinned, looking up at the wild man, completely terrified.
"Why are you stealing from Jane?" Tarzan demanded as the thief cowered under him.
"Let him go banana boy." Came a gruffer voice.
The distraction gave the thief enough time to slip out and hide behind his rescuers, two large brothers that practically towered over everyone else in the backstreet. The thief felt more courageous from his place behind his cohorts and pointed a finger at his pursuers. By reflex Tarzan stood between the gang and Jane.
"Now you're in trouble! I just wanted Professor Porter's work that you were carrying."
"The Professors work?"
"Yeah! Why else would he have spent so much time living in the jungle if he didn't have something really big to boast about when he got back? CLEARLY you two are sneaking it into London for him."
This was getting confusing for Tarzan. Not so confusing that he would let it go on longer though. The thief was searching through the stolen bag while the larger men stepped forwards to restrain or search Tarzan and Jane. Tarzan swung a punch into the stomach of his opponent, feeling a slight tremor but not doing much to stop the advance. After ducking under the counter attack he grabbed onto the thick arm and used it to scale the criminal, eventually hanging onto his back and gripping on for all he was worth as the man spun trying to reach or dislodge the ape man.
