Character Name: Peter Pan
Gender: Male
Type of Creature: Formerly Human, now mostly Fae.
Rank: Force of Good
Movie/TV Series: Peter Pan
Home Island: Neverland
Personality:
Peter Pan will forever be 12 years old. Because of this, his personality tends to come in extremes. He has the capacity for great love and compassion (“Don't you understand, Tink? You mean more to me than anything in the world!”) but can also be conceited, cocky, and immature, if not cruel. When Wendy was being bullied by the mermaids, Peter joined in their laughter, not fully understanding why Wendy was upset. However, he is also very protective of Wendy and those he loves and will fight to the death to defend them.
Peter is also a fearless warrior and leader. He commands the Lost Boys with confidence and has no hesitations when it comes to fighting Pirates. For all his tough posturing, he is respected and loved by the boys, and he in turn has become a sort of pseudo-father figure for them. He obviously cares for them.
He's used to getting his way. If not, he will either dismiss the entire matter as beneath him or go sulk, depending on his mood at the time. Everything he does is dramatic-- when Tinkerbell tries to hurt Wendy, Peter banishes her. But he does have compassion, and will listen to reason. When Wendy asks for mercy, Peter shorten's Tink's banishment to a week.
Peter is most in his element when he's playing jokes and tricks on Captain Hook and the other silly pirates. While these tricks usually lead to skirmishes and fights between the pirates and the lost boys, the boys never tire of giving Captain Hook trouble. He also likes to show off, reveling in the amazement he inspires from the Lost Boys and the wide-eyed wonder he usually gets from Wendy.
He can also be pretty conceited-- his favorite stories are the ones about himself, after all.
Powers, Skills, and/or Any Other Abilities:
Flight: Peter can fly with great speed and agility as well as hover/float in place. Using this ability, he travels from Neverland to England to visit the Darlings.
Eternal Youth/Immortality: Peter can be killed, but will not die of old age. He will forever be a boy.
Knife Fighting: Peters preferred weapon is a dagger, which he can wield with great skill. Using it he can go toe to toe with Captain Hook and his Pirates. He usually fights while flying, which gives him an edge over men who cannot.
Impersonations: Peter has a knack for impersonating other's voices. He's so good at it he convinced Mr. Smee that he was Hook, and ordered him to free Tiger Lily.
Leadership: Peter is the captain and commander of the Lost Boys. He leads them into battle against pirates and friendly skirmishes against the Indians. He also usually takes charge of games and adventures and settles fights. They rarely question him.
Weaknesses/Flaws:
Pride: Pan is very prideful, and so does not take well at all to being corrected or proven wrong. If his pride is bruised, he will most likely lash out or go sulk. It makes being his friend challenging at times, especially for Wendy.
Temper: Like his pride, Peter's temper makes him a difficult character to love. Usually he is playful and easy going, but look out if his mood darkens.
Disconnect with "reality" - Peter's life is one long adventure. And that adventure is a game in which Peter Pan makes up his own rules. He lives his life as he pleases and does whatever brings him happiness and pleasure in that moment. He rarely thinks about the repercussions of his actions. When doing battle with Pirates, for example, Peter will taunt them and show off and laugh, despite the very real threat of being stabbed or smashed with a canon ball. When playing these games, Peter can get carried away, becoming violent and vicious. He did cut off Hook's hand in the heat of battle, and to make it worse, he threw that hand to the crocodile. The crocodile got a taste for Hook's flesh, and from then on stalked the terrified Pirate. To add insult to injury, Peter fed the crocodile a clock to terrorize Hook even more whenever it was near.
"Never Growing Up": The subject of his parents (or any parents at all, really) is a tough one for Peter. The story of how he came to be an orphan is one he has never shared with anyone, except perhaps Tink, and it weighed upon him so much that he vowed never to grow up. He generally distrusts and hates adults.
His Friends: Peter will do anything to protect those he loves. When Tinkerbell saves his life, he fearlessly digs through the wreckage of Hangman's Tree to find her. When Wendy and the Lost Boys are kidnapped by Pirates, Peter rushes to save them, even though it is one against many. Hook recognized that Tinkerbell and Wendy were Pan's greatest weaknesses, and uses that against Pan to try and gain the upper hand.
Canon History:
When Peter was a small child, he left his parents to go play with the fairies. When he returned, he saw that the window to his bedroom was closed and a new child was in his bed. Believing his parents no longer wanted him, he left them for good, and went to live in Neverland forever. Now and then, Peter would travel back from Neverland to England. If he found a lost boy, he would offer to take them with him to Neverland. These boys became known as The Lost Boys.
While living in Neverland, Peter befriended the fairies and the mermaids. Peter and the Lost Boys play war games with the Indians, but this is all in good fun and those captured are always released. Peter's true enemies in Neverland are the Pirates-- specifically Captain James Hook. When the Lost Boys and the Pirates clash, the danger is very real. Hook would love nothing more than to see Pan dead. During one battle, Pan cut off Hook's hand and threw it to the crocodile. After that, Peter fed the crocodile a clock, so Hook would always know when it was near. Because of this, Hook's bloodthirsty lust for revenge knows no end. Despite all of this, however, Pan doesn't really take the Pirates seriously. Peter believes he would win no matter what they tried, so any of their schemes are met with equal ferocity and the mischievousness of a boy playing a game. The pirates make his life more adventurous, and every time he wins it just confirms how wonderful he is.
One night while exploring London, he found the home of the Darlings. While listening outside the window, he heard Wendy telling her brothers a story about himself. He liked this very much, and returned the next night, and the night after that, to hear more. He would take Wendy's stories back to Neverland and share them with the Lost Boys.
One night, their dog, Nana, got hold of Peter's shadow and he was forced to leave it behind. When he returned to fetch it, he was happy to see that Nana was chained up outside. Without the dog there, he entered the nursery and started looking for his missing shadow. He found it in a drawer, but woke Wendy up while trying to catch it.
Wendy was very happy to meet him, although Peter was somewhat bewildered by the girl. She talked too much, but was able to sew his shadow back in place. Upon learning that it was Wendy's last night in the nursery and the stories would end, Peter vowed to keep that from happening. He asked her to come with him to Neverland so she would never grow up and would be able to tell her stories to him and the lost boys forever. With some reluctant help from Tinkerbell, Peter led the Darlings out of their window, to the second star to the right, and on to Neverland.
While in Neverland, the Darlings, the Lost Boys, and Peter Pan had a number of adventures. Peter saved Wendy from falling to her death after Tinkerbell tricked the Lost Boys into shooting her down. While the boys went off to track Indians, Peter took Wendy to see Mermaid Lagoon, which wasn't at all what she expected. While at the lagoon, Peter and Wendy discovered that Captain Hook and Mr. Smee had kidnapped the Indian Princess, Tiger Lily. Peter used trickery to rescue her, and the children attended a grand celebration with the Indian tribe. While there, Peter danced with Tiger Lily, but of course had no idea that he had upset Wendy by doing so.
That night, Peter realized that Wendy was ready to return home. To Peter's great dismay, the Lost Boys wanted to go with her, to have real mothers of their own. Peter took this personally, and told them that once they left and grew up, they could never return. When they left, Peter told himself that they'd be back, and waited smugly for their return. However, the pirates were waiting, and captured all the Lost Boys and the Darlings when they left Hangman's Tree.
Ready to be rid of Peter Pan once and for all, Hook lowered a bomb into Hangman's tree, disguised as a gift from Wendy. Hook's trick would have worked, had Tinkerbell not arrived just in time to save Pan's life. Pan found Tink in the debris and saved her first, telling her that he loved her more than anything, before going off to rescue Wendy and the Boys.
Together, Peter and Tink flew to the Jolly Roger and do battle with the pirates. The Boys are freed and join the fight. Peter and Hook fought, and Peter clearly had the upper hand until Hook called him a coward for using his power of flight in battle. Peter took the bait, and promised to beat Hook without flying. The two fought once again, and this time Peter just barely managed to win. Hook fell from the mast of the ship and he and his men were chased away into the sunset by the crocodile.
After the pirates were defeated, Tink covered the Jolly Roger with pixie dust and Peter took command of the ship, sailing it to London to take the Darling's home. The Lost Boys and Peter Pan then returned to Neverland.
Game Information:
Time is different in Neverland, so Peter was somewhat used to seeing drastic changes happen in and around London between his visits. But this was different. London was completely gone, and a world entirely new to Peter was in its place. First, he tried to find the Darlings. In doing so, he saw many people, places, and things that he had only heard stories about before. He mostly stayed in the shadows, watching and listening, and took these new stories back to the Lost Boys. Every time he traveled through the Second Star, he seemed to end up someplace new.
He didn't understand what was happening, but Pan's adventurous spirit never really needed to understand the facts. Instead, he accepted it for what it was: a new adventure. He still hopes to find the Darlings, but in the mean time, he is curious to see what else this new world has in store.
Anything Else:
Peter plays a "pan flute."
..:: Sample Post ::..
Peter was in a foul mood. Reclining in his animal-skin hammock, he kicked himself into motion every now and then with the bottom of his heel. The tune he played on his pan flute was not the usual happy melody he played, but something else he'd heard a long time ago-- a sad lullaby.
The helping hand that guides you along, whether your'e right, whether you're wrong… your mother and mine...
The Lost Boys were giving him lots of space. They knew he was thinking about Wendy. Even Tinkerbell, who usually had the least amount of patience for this, had left him alone. It wasn't so much that he wanted Wendy to be there, he knew she didn't belong in Neverland, but with each trip to London-that-was-not-London, he became more aggravated. Surely if they had moved, she would have left him a note. What if she had left in a hurry? What if something else had happened to them? Something bad?
He sat up then, the thought having occurred to him for the first time. Maybe they were in trouble, and needed his help?
Well, there was only one way to find out. Striding from his room, he crossed his arms, pleased to see the Lost Boys jump to attention and form a line, awaiting orders.
"Alright, Men," he began, his voice authoritative and firm. "I'm going to look for Wendy, Jon, and Michael. While I'm gone, Slightly is in command." The blond, skinny boy in the fox skin gave a smug grin while Cubby, the boy in the bear skin, stifled a groan. "… Unless Tinkerbell is around," Pan corrected, "She out-ranks all of you."
The boys all nodded vigorously and saluted. Needing to give no more direction, Peter Pan flew up and out through one of Hangman-Tree's many newly-repaired exits. He didn't stop, climbing higher and higher into Neverland's blue sky until he broke through the clouds.
In the distance, the Second Star winked at him.
Without anyone to escort and without Tinkerbell following along, Peter could travel at top speed. This time, when he got back to London, he wouldn't just listen and watch. He was going to find someone and get some answers.
