"A Gargoyle doesn't whine; he ROARS!"
Post by Goliath on Jan 11, 2014 16:59:29 GMT -5
"Would it not?" Goliath said, his voice a deep rumble. "Or would it solve everything?"
He would be willing to make that sacrifice for Elisa. Goliath didn't want her to have to give up her life in the human world, but why couldn't he join her? It would ... make things remarkably simpler. He would still be able to lead the clan, but he and Elisa could have what she always wanted ..... couldn't they?
Elisa did have a point, though. Gargoyles used the stone sleep to heal from any sort of ailment that might befall them during the night; what would happen if he no longer had the day of healing to fall back on? What would happen if he became ill?
Goliath could honestly say that he did not know. Gargoyles didn't really get sick, thanks to the stone sleep. If he somehow managed to go through with his idea....there would be a lot to learn about his new form.
"Could he not?" Goliath asked, gazing down at Elisa. "Oberon may have limited Puck's powers, but Puck is a trickster; he has figured out ways to have his own way, with magic, before, and I'm certain he could do it again."
But she was right. It wouldn't be fair to ask something like that of Puck, now that he was trapped as Owen, a majority of the time, even if he was a trickster.
Careful of his talons, Goliath put his right hand on Elisa's cheek, knowing that it might be the last time he got to touch her so tenderly.
"I would do .... anything for you," he murmured. "All you need do is ask."
Was there a way for them to be together? Goliath didn't know. All that he knew was that, while he could live his life without Elisa in it, he didn't want to.

Elisa looked up at Goliath with wide-eyes, more shocked than anything else. Not only was he being incredibly persistent about everything but he was actually putting a decision and responsibility for his future and welfare directly in her hands and that notion alone left her initially speechless. She could feel the fear for Goliath's personal safety welling up in her leaving her feeling a little bit nauseated.
If Goliath had been able to decipher the fear which was already masked in her shocked expression, she quickly shoved that feeling deep down and found that it was easily replaced with a sincere anger. She pulled away from him actually putting a solid few feet between them. She would not even allow herself to entertain this idea in any way.
"Goliath, I'm not talking about this anymore. The price of magic is always too high. This isn't an option as far as I'm concerned and it's not the answer! End of discussion!" She finished with a sweep of her hand across her body. She was not under any circumstances going to condone Goliath to make any sort of bargain with Puck or anyone powerful enough to change his physical form. That was asking for trouble.
She shoved her hands into her pockets clenching them into fists, the flare of anger subsiding enough for her to take a deep breath to center herself, "I should get going anyway. I gotta go to work." She added, not meeting his eyes. Her heart ached. She felt the pain spreading through her chest and thought that it might actually consume her. Though her heart was warmed by the idea that Goliath would do anything for her, something she already felt in her gut, she would not allow him to do anything that would bring him or the rest of his- no, THEIR clan harm.

Goliath listened to Elisa's words, though he didn't say anything. What could he say, really? That this could solve all their problems? That he was still considering it, though she had told him she wouldn't choose that for him?
But the more he thought about it, the more magic seemed to be the solution. Yes, it was potentially dangerous, yes, he would have to pay a price, and yes, it would change him forever. But if he wasn't willing to do anything for Elisa.....then he didn't really deserve her to begin with.
Honestly, now that he thought about it, this whole discussion had been very selfish on his part. He should be thinking about the people of Manhattan, not himself.
But at the same time, he couldn't help it. He might not be human, but he still had feelings.
Really, though, she should bid Elisa farewell and go to protect the people of the city.
"Very well," he said, uncaping his wings from around his shoulders. He should take to the skies himself, really, and join the Clan in patrolling the city. They were in a state of emergency, after all, with the Forever Stone having been breached.
"Until tomorrow night?" he said, unsure of whether or not it was a question. He hoped that a new night would help things, but at this point, he wasn't sure. This wasn't something that was going away, and they were going to have to figure it out sooner or later.

The look on Goliath's face made Elisa almost wish she hadn't looked back up into his eyes. She couldn't quite read what she saw there but she was certain she'd hurt him in some way. But she refused to back down. She wouldn't let Goliath risk himself, their clan, their city, on the off chance that maybe they could be together in some real way. Some way that allowed her to walk around on his arm on days other than Halloween without judgement. Some way that allowed them to have a real life together with a home and maybe even children. It just... it wasn't worth the risk to lose him.
The same thought from a moment ago crossed her mind, didn't loving someone mean loving them just as they were? She did love Goliath and she would continue to love him. If nothing else that was what Jason coming into her life had shown. Though she certainly cared for Jason still, her love for Goliath went deeper than anything she could explain. It was something she was still coming to terms with and needed to decide if it was enough.
She was silent for a moment then Elisa felt a small smile spread across her lips at Goliath's words. They loved each other despite all the unfortunate circumstances surrounding them. She exhaled through her nose as she smiled feeling the tension draining out of her. "Tomorrow," She nodded.
Elisa took a few steps towards Goliath and hopped up to wrap her arms around his neck in a tight embrace and bury her face in his hair. She never expected his skin to be as soft as it always was. For a creature that spent a huge portion of their life as a stone statue he was not cold or hard. He was kind and caring and selfless and so much more. She couldn't imagine what her life might have been like if he hadn't dropped into it out of the sky like he had. Releasing him she dropped back to the ground and touched his face, "Be careful out there, big guy."

As Elisa jumped up to be able to wrap her arms around his neck, Goliath's own arms wrapped around her instinctively, making sure she didn't fall.
Usually, his wings would follow suit, but as he was preparing to go on patrol, he kept them unfurled, ready to leap off of the building at a moment's notice.
He felt a sense of loss as Elisa pulled away, almost as though he would never feel her arms around him like that again. Which was ridiculous. Just because they were dealing with a tough issue didn't mean they'd stopped caring for each other. It just meant they had some things to figure out.
He pulled a smile onto his face at Elisa's words, reaching up to touch her cheek as carefully as possible with one talon.
"You, too, Elisa," he said, the three simple words carrying so much more weight and meaning than the words themselves implied.
Without another word, without allowing himself time to do or say something they might regret, Goliath turned, climbed onto the parapet, and leapt off the tower, wings outspread, going to join his clan in patrolling the city they now called home.

Elisa could still feel the ghost of Goliath's arms around her even after she had let go. Something she'd never really felt with anyone before, except maybe with Jason. Of course, by the time he'd come into her life her feelings for Goliath had grown to the point that she wasn't able to let herself love him. She still cared about him, Jason that is, but she didn't feel the way about him that she felt about Goliath.
She'd never stopped to wonder if there was something 'wrong' with her or 'wrong' with loving Goliath. Her feelings for him had just happened and she'd never questioned them until now. Was that what was happening? Was she ashamed to love a being that wasn't exactly human? In the ways that counted Goliath was probably more human than she was. It was only his physical form that wasn't. Was that enough to throw away everything? And what was it that was bothering her? Was it that Goliath was a gargoyle? Or was it that other people would judge or persecute her for being in such an.... unconventional situation.
She didn't have the answers and neither did Goliath. Heck, she couldn't even bring herself to truly admit to herself whether she loved him or not, let alone to him.
Elisa felt herself involuntarily take in a breath at Goliath's touch and she smiled warmly at his words. It probably wasn't the healthiest thing in the world to wonder if she'd ever see someone again every time they left her sight but particularly with Goliath that was how it always was. Maybe it was because of her upbringing. Her father had been a cop and with him she had never known if he would come back safe, or at all.
She sighed a little wistfully as she watched Goliath go, leaping from the building and gliding off into the night. As much as she didn't think she could have handled the transition into being a gargoyle and giving up her human life, she remembered gliding. It was almost euphoric. Thrilling. In brief moments she thought of her brother. If he had handled the change, maybe it wouldn't be so bad. But then she remembered all the things she would lose. Her apartment. Her job. Her human life. Gone.
It was not only a weighty trade but she would be giving it up for Goliath. While he might be worth every moment, she wouldn't be the same person anymore. And it wasn't fair. How much pressure would he be under knowing that she had literally given up everything to be with him? Another sigh. As soon as Goliath was out of sight Elisa turned back towards the stairs that would lead her back to the Eyrie building below and the elevator that would take her back to the streets. She was glad that she had work to distract her because it was an understatement to say she had a lot on her mind.
