Jane was still puzzling over the trouble of freeing Basil when he pointed out the torches on the wall, referencing Archimedes.
"Of course!" she exclaimed, smiling brightly at his words. "We'll have you out of there in no time, Basil!" And without further ado, she rushed to the wall that held the torches, pulled one from its support, and doused it in dirt to extinguish it.
The Englishwoman made her way back to where Basil was still currently shackled to the altar, pausing in her endeavors to listen to his ... apology, it appeared to be. A smile slipped onto her face when he'd finished, and she waved a hand, dismissing any reason he had for apologizing, though she appreciated it.
"Oh, think nothing of it, dear Basil; there was no harm done." Truth be told, she was rather used to people underestimating her, mostly because she was a young woman. Generally, they didn't see how intelligent and capable she was, at first, but she often showed people wrong, and quite quickly, at that. That was honestly one of the first things that Tarzan hadn't done when they first met, one of the things that had drawn him to her; he hadn't judged her.
But now wasn't the time to think about the past; right now, she had to free Basil. While Jane wasn't generally the most vengeful person, Basil's idea was on the right track. If they depleted La's supply of her "Jewels of Opar," they would be able to keep them from getting into the hands of other villains. And since the Forever Stone had been breached, there were many more villains abroad.
"I like your thinking, Basil," Jane smiled. "But first, let's get you out of there, shall we?" With a few swift moves, Jane had used the handle of the torch to pry Basil loose from his shackle. "As soon as we're done, let's get out of here!" They didn't want to be captured again; after escaping, they would surely be executed immediately.

Basil inhaled deeply to make extra room for the torch under the shackle, flinching slightly as the binding was pried loose and tossed across the room. Luckily the noise didn't attract any attention. The detective slid down the altar and landed on the floor, dusting himself off as he headed for the temple exit.
"Excellent application of leverage Miss Porter. Now the sooner we finish our task the sooner we can leave."
The mouse peeked outside into the main city, looking and listening for the leopard guards. Most of the city was deserted except for two main points, a ground level building with guards at the door and a more regal structure up a flight of steps with a crowd of leopards outside it. Suddenly another leopard rushed out, being struck on the back of the head by a thrown goblet. Basil's ears perked up as he heard the distant spoiled whining of Queen La, expressing her dissatisfaction of her drink not being cold enough and demanding more 'competent' servers. The detective put everything he was seeing together to deduce the best path forward.
"It would seem her majesty." He said with barely hidden distaste. "is reassigning all of her forces for her 'relaxation'. That building is the only one besides her palace with guards on it. So it stands to reason that it would be a likely candidate for the jewel stockpile."
A Leopard in more decorative armour stepped out of the palace and barked orders, calling the two guarding the storage building. Apparently La valued her comforts more than the security of the rest of her city. At least her irresponsibility presented opportunity. Basil waste no time in leading the way across to the building, pausing occasionally to hide in the shadows of the arches and statues.
Soon enough he was slipping inside, stopping to marvel at a series of shelves made of branches and tied with vines, displaying rows upon rows of jewels of various colours. They all glowed unnaturally, the mouse had a nagging urge to take a few home with him. For research of course, not for profit or power like the greedy individuals who had smuggled some of these same stones to London. At least that's what he told himself, they were very tempting.
"Each of these jewels could grant astounding abilities or fuel powerful magic. and yet to scientifically minded individual such as us they're nothing more than paperweights or ornaments....so very shiny...anyway. Up for dominos?"
Basil got between the wall and the closets shelf, pushing against each of them and trying to tip the shelf over. Once it collapsed it would knock over the next row, then so on and so forth. Much easier than smashing them one at a time. At least if he could just get the first shelf moving.
"Almost...I can feel it budging." He lied to himself out loud as he continued to exert his tiny form against the shelf.

Before she followed Basil to the doors of the temple, Jane looked around, trying to ascertain whether there was anything that she could take with her for further study. The tapestry was far too large to drag through the jungle, which was quite the pity; it could have provided ever so much useful information about this place!
As Jane was lamenting this fact, she noticed an exact, miniature replica of the tapestry in question near the door out which Basil was heading. It was in direct proportion to the mouse, which meant that he'd be able to read it with as much ease as Jane could the original.
She didn't have time to stop and marvel at this fact (maybe there were talking mice here, too?) as Basil was headed out the door, commenting on Queen La's lack of proper defensive means. It was a good thing she was such a demanding monarch for her poor leopards or they never would have gotten out unnoticed. Still, Jane felt bad for the leopards; they didn't deserve forced servitude like this. They were creatures of the jungle and they should be free to live and die as they pleased!
Quickly rolling up the smaller tapestry and tying it across her shoulders, Jane followed the mouse detective across the grounds, having a much more difficult time of hiding than he did. It was a good thing she'd been living with Tarzan for a while or she never would have been able to make her way across without attracting attention to herself.
As soon as they were inside the hut which contained the "Jewels of Opar," Jane looked around, eyes widening. Goodness, were these the jewels? She was reaching out to touch one when Basil's voice brought her back to herself.
"Right," she said, determination clear in her stance. Moving behind Basil, she covertly helped him push the shelf, hoping that he wouldn't be too miffed that she'd seen fit to assist the Great Mouse Detective.
With a resounding CRASH, the shelf fell over, catapulting into the shelf next to it, which had the desired domino effect on the rest.

Basil watched the shelves collapse into each other and spill the jewels, leaving them in fragments all over the floor. As each jewel burst they seemed to release a large spark of coloured light that floated upwards and burst off the ceiling with a crackling sound. The detective raised an eyebrow at the display.
"Just once I'd like to see some subtle form of magic. That little firework show does nothing for our attempt at stealth. Shall we?"
The detective took a peek outside the doorway, noticing to his dismay that the guards at the Queen's quarters were alerted and looking towards the storehouse. La stepped out barking orders, clearly angered by the damage the intruders were causing. At her command the guards rushed down the steps, one of them hurling a spear that landed point down a few inches next to Basil.
"Well Miss Porter, I think we've overstayed our welcome."
Basil took off as fast as he could manage, looking for an obvious way out of the city. The leopards had the advantage in speed and would catch them again with little trouble, so the obvious solution was to create an obstacle to slow their pursuit. The mouse pointed out a waterway nearby, a bridge doubling as a sluice gate with the mechanism on the far side. Putting all the speed he could muster to keep up with Jane he crossed over and put all his weight into tackling the catch holding the bridge crank. Once the catch was disengaged the crank spun wildly and lowered the sluice, letting a heavy flow of water fill up the canal and leaving the guards roaring and snarling on the other side. The waterway was too wide for them to leap and the current to strong to swim without getting swept away. Basil caught his breath, feeling good about finally having the advantage over the larger animals.
Back at the temple, the lead guard bowed before his Queen. His empty handed return told her that the prisoners had escaped, destroyed her stockpiles of jewels and stolen her tapestry. In response she turned her scepter on the guard, forcing him to strike himself over the head with his staff several times. The other guards flinched at the display, none willing to interfere or object.
"Your Queen isn't happy. The rodent scurrying around my kingdom was bad enough but you've let the English girl escape without paying for her disrespect. Now I'll have to come up with something extra horrible for next time." She swapped out the jewel in her staff for another, staring into it like a scrying device, bringing up images seen from the jewels she'd sent out already. "I might look for help outside my domain. Maleficent has gathered some useful creatures after all."
She laughed as she signaled the guards to pour her another drink, the leopards tripping over themselves to help.
"I'll get you yet Porter, and your little rat too."
ooc: Terrible stuff, sorry. Was stumped on how the characters would be free to get home without leading an army.
David Xanatos: Kat's back. Hope the vacation was fun.
