Kim had hoped that the image of a gloomy, perpetually raining London was an exaggeration, a mere stereotype. Unfortunately for her hair, this hadn't been the case so far. She hefted the umbrella she'd just bought once more, trying to balance it on her shoulder in one hand while she called Wade on the Kimmunicator in the other.
"Hey, Wade. Tell me I'm in the right place?"
"As far as I know." He took a long slurp from the soft drink beside his computer. "This Basil guy was tricky to track down. It's like he's living in a cave or something."
"It doesn't look like one..." Kim frowned up at the door to the building. She was, for once, feeling nervous about a mission. She had no clue what she was getting into asking Basil for help, since Wade had found next to no information on the detective.
"Well, I'll let you be the judge on this one, Kim. Good luck!" The screen winked out as Wade ended the call.
As she moved to put the device away, Kim's umbrella overbalanced, and in her struggle to catch it before it fell, the Kimmunicator slipped out of her grasp. She crouched down and snatched it up again. A quick swipe of her thumb over the screen revealed no obvious damage. Kim was just about to straighten up when something caught her eye.
There was a small door just beside the front steps, and a tiny window to match.
"Maybe it's not a cave, Wade." She muttered. "Maybe it's a mouse hole..."
Tentatively, she shuffled closer, and reached out to tap on the door.

Inside the mouse hole, Basil was in the process of cataloging the papers relating to his last few cases. Events such as his excursions to the Jungle, New Orleans and Arendelle. As he held down the cover of an overstuffed binder the detective was alerted by knocking at the door, louder than usual.
"Good lord that's loud. Dawson?...Mrs Judson?"
Basil looked around for someone to take over his task while he answered the door. Finding no help coming the mouse stretched across the desk to grab a few heavy books, dropping them on the binder to keep the contents from getting loose. Sighing in relief he rushed for the door, grabbing his brown coat and deerstalker as he heard the light rain.
"Good evening, I..ah!" Basil flinched as he opened the door to face a large human hand in the middle of knocking. Seeing he wasn't about to be hit he tried to recover his professional manner. "I mean...ahem...Basil of Baker Street, Agent of the Crown at your service."
The detective gave the visitor a once over, learning what he could. Female, athletic, middle to late teens, the usual confused expression of someone who came seeking Basil and was unaware of his species plus the discomfort of someone unused with the weather. Aside from the (wisely chosen) umbrella she also carried a strange electronic device, some kind of small box with a glass segment and buttons. Perhaps it was one of those 'mobile telephones' they had in the more advanced areas of the Statue Isles that were once America.
"So. Congratulations on finding the right door. Most visitors usually go for the human building first. I'd invite you in but.." He let the obvious problem with that solution dangle. "Cafe perhaps? Or the library down the road?"
Leading the way with a brisk sprint to keep ahead of the taller visitor, Basil found the desired meeting area and crawled up on the table to get to eye level with her.
"So. How can I help?"
ooc: Your call on the meeting place. Wasn't sure what you'd prefer, sorry.
The door opened without warning, and Kim jerked her hand back to avoid hitting the mouse that emerged, nearly losing her balance in the process. She had to strain a bit to hear him, but the message came across loud and clear. "Nice to meet you. I'm Kim Possible. Free agent in the 'saving-the-world' business. At yours." The teen heroine said, trying to keep her voice low for fear of damaging Basil's eardrums--hopefully her knocking hadn't been too loud for the mouse already.
"Yeah." She laughed. "Kind of a stroke of luck, actually." She wondered, briefly, what would have happened had she tried the large door first. It would have been quite embarrassing, most likely. Thank goodness she'd avoided that awkward conversation with whoever was living there. "Ooh, the cafe, definitely. I could really go for a coffee right now." She stood, and stepped aside to let Basil lead. It was a little strange, trying to keep sight of the mouse in the rain while making sure she didn't walk too fast and accidentally pass him or step on him, but Kim managed it all right. She had been in stranger situations, hadn't she? Besides, she'd followed Rufus around places in Middleton several times, and he was only slightly bigger than Basil.
She settled into her chair, taking a brief glance around to see if anyone would notice an American girl talking to a mouse in a suit. "I'm on a mission to protect the crown jewels. I have it on good authority that Falsetto Jones is going to attempt to steal them in two days. I either have to find and capture him before then, or catch him in the act. Hold on a sec..."
Kim paused in her briefing to catch the attention of a nearby waiter, and she quickly hid Basil from the man's view with a strategically placed napkin while she ordered. The waiter left, and Kim turned her attention back to the mouse.
"Sorry about that. Anyway, I've been told that Jones is capturing mice. I think he's planning on using them to steal the jewels somehow. This is where I need your help the most. If you can help me pinpoint the main area that the mice have been disappearing in, then together we can find Jones' hideout and stop him before he can even get close to the jewels."

So the uniquely named Kim Possible was a free agent, similar to Basil. Well he was mostly a freelance detective unless affairs of national or international urgency required a leader of one of the kingdoms to call on his aid unless one of the many other rodent heroes were more suited, but he could count those on one hand and still have five digits extra.
This particular case, given the information laid out, was pretty much made for Basils involvement. The crown jewels were at risk again, apparently from a man named or nicknamed Falsetto. A singer perhaps? It would be a good time to steal them again given that the entire collection had just been put back together from Ratigans stash of ill gotten items, the criminal mastermind apparently having stolen a very select list of jewels over a period of time so that noone noticed until he'd amassed an impressive haul.
"Your enemy sounds like he's in it for the prestige or the challenge Miss Possible. Priceless as the crown jewels are there are very few fences willing to purchase them and risk the inevitable sword of justice to strike them down." Basil put together a profile from what Kim had told him so far. "The novices who try to steal the jewels for financial gain...they don't make it too far. Not to mention the urmph!"
For a few seconds the detective was smothered under a napkin, quickly getting the hint to quiet down. Unfortunatly the mouse was not yet welcome in most human dining establishments, at least he assumed that was the situation given that his fellow investigator showed no sign of embarassment of being seen with him. After the waiter left Basil crawled out from under the cloth to resume the conversation.
"Capturing mice. I see why you sought me out." Basil closed his eyes to put together recent street gossip, local crime and rumor into tangible leads. "Come to think of it there have been a rash of migranes and sleeplessness among otherwise healthy mice. I assisted Dr Dawson with a few patients recently and I believe it may be caused by some kind of high frequency sound inaudible to humans. The most common afflicted areas are Whitechapel and Limehouse."
Basil didn't see the need to mention that Dawson had removed him from the surgery after he tried to make guinea pigs out of the patients rather than help treat them. In any case he had narrowed down all potential locations of the criminals down to two within reasonable distance of the Tower of London where the Crown Jewels were under lock, key and armed guard. Whitechapel was closer but Limestone had easy access to the Thames for an escape by water.
"I've been tinkering with a device back at the flat to pick up where the sound is coming from. Perhaps this Falsetto individual is behind this epidemic to attract mice in large amounts for his plot. We'll depart when you're ready Miss Possible."
ooc: I'm kinda glad you didn't pick Senior Senior Senor as a villain. I don't look forward to typing that over and over XD. Just threw out some ideas for sleuthing locations to cover bases for whatever you plan (technically we don't even need Basils device if Wade is on the ball, poor guy is going to have to work extra hard not to be upstaged in his home city)
Kim nodded. She'd faced Falsetto Jones once before, and knew Basil was on the right track about his motivations. "Yeah, I'd say he's the type to try and boost his reputation as a thief by pulling an insane stunt like this." After he'd been put in jail, the notorious thief had quickly become yesterday's news, and Kim thought he was exactly the kind of person who valued their reputation before anything else. She could only hope Jones' pride would lead to his downfall, and quickly. "He's fresh out of prison, so he might be desperate. Possibly slightly unhinged. Definitely crazy enough to kidnap mice in a plot to steal the crown jewels."
She raised an eyebrow at his next comment. "What do you think the noise is for? Is it coming from whatever device Falsetto's using on the mice he's captured, or is the noise itself his weapon?" The redheaded heroine hated to admit it, but she was at a severe disadvantage with this case. Unlike many of the other villains she'd faced, she wasn't able to pinpoint Jones' methods, as he changed his M.O. so frequently. What she wouldn't give to be facing someone relatively predictable, like Drakken...
The waiter reappeared suddenly with her drink, and she moved to shield Basil from his view once more, this time surreptitiously sliding a salt shaker in front of the mouse. She wasn't sure if talking mice showing up on cafe tables would be considered a common occurrence here, but she knew that back home, even the most intelligent of rodents' presence in any restaurant would be looked down upon as a health code violation waiting to happen. She'd certainly had more than enough experience with that sort of thing thanks to Ron and Rufus. Once the waiter had left once more, she quickly put the salt shaker back in its place.
"Once again, I'm so sorry about that. I just want to make sure we don't attract any unwanted attention, you know?" Kim was sure she was blushing. She knew that it was still rude of her to interrupt Basil like that, but she hoped the mouse would understand. She took a few sips of her coffee to distract her, letting it burn her tongue slightly.
"Just give me a moment and I'll be good to go." After taking one last gulp of her drink, she pulled out a few coins from her jacket pocket and set them on the table to cover the cost of the drink plus a small tip. Thank goodness she'd kept a few British coins and bills from her last few trips, she thought. She stood, and picked up her umbrella. "All right. After you, Mr. Basil."
((OOC: Ha, I had thought about having Senor as the NPC villain, but then I realized how much convoluted typing that would entail =P Wade doesn't seem to have much info on the mouse world, so I think for now Kim's good to let Basil do his thing.))

"Animals such as mice are sensitive to noises that are inaudible to humans. There have been ideas on how to use such sounds as a pest repellent." Basil explained, unaware that such devices would be common in the twentieth/twenty first century setting in Kims Isle.
"There are quite a few possibilities until we gather more information. From that information we connect the facts, eliminate the impossible and are left with the truth."
The detective froze again when the waiter returned, letting Kim make her covering motions once more. Her actions were well practised, nearly a reflex. Basil assumed that her free agent world saving had her well trained in hiding something from prying eyes and enemy attention, there was something else to it though. As the waiter left and Kim finished her drink he put together some theories from his observations.
"You have a pet. Small animal or some kind of rodent. Bit of a troublemaker that you have to cover for in public. I'd hazard that he or she enjoys going after other peoples food?"
Showing off again, it remained to be seen if Miss Possible would be impressed or irritated by his deductions. As she paid the bill and gathered her belongings Basil was climbing down the table leg and at the door to exit with her, leading the way back to 221 Baker Street.
Once back in the flat Basil rushed inside, scavenging through his table of half finished projects to find the gadget he'd been working on. Once he found it and gathered a few more investigation tools before heading back out to meet with Kim. He held up the device to show it off, a wooden box with a circle of glass in one side and two metal antennae on the top, a green liquid under the glass sloshed around on the interior.
"A little something I mixed up with the chemistry set, still need a name for it. The liquid inside reacts to ultrasonic sound at long distances. I just need to turn the aerial around until I find the right direction then.." The liquid inside started bubbling as the detective got a lead. "There we go, just follow it to the source."
Despite his haste Basil was aware that he would be affected by the ultrasonics once they got close enough, but his ego told him that he'd be able to overcome that problem when it presented itself. Plus his partner on this case seemed capable. He walked on confidently, readjusting the aerials every so often to double check his direction.
"So. What kind of world saving do you get up to Miss Possible?"
Kim bit back a grin. Basil had no idea what technology was really capable of on her Isle. It was almost cute. But then it dawned on her that most of the other Isles were like this, and her spirits fell. Wade was, arguably, a technological genius, but his computer wizardry could only go so far on the truly low-tech Isles. She tuned out the rest of Basil's response until he mentioned her having a pet.
"Oh!" She blinked at him, a faint blush creeping onto her cheeks. "I, um, I guess you could call Rufus my pet, in a way. He's really my, um, my friend's pet." She didn't want to tell him any more than that--not because she was embarrassed by Ron, but because there were simply some aspects of her private life she wanted to stay private, for once. If the mouse detective could tell that much about her personal life just from a few of her actions, he'd surely pick up on that fact.
The walk back seemed to go much faster, perhaps because the rain was finally letting up. Still, Kim kept her umbrella open as she waited in front of Basil's flat for the mouse to reemerge. It was awkward, standing on the pavement with no apparent rhyme or reason, and she kept glancing around her and back at the windows of the human dwelling to make sure no-one was staring. Which, she soon realized, would only make her look more suspicious to anyone watching.
Once Basil was back outside, Kim knelt down to squint at the device he'd brought. It was much more low-tech than what she was used to, but it appeared to be working so far. Perhaps less advanced technology wasn't so bad after all. In theory, it should even be easier to use, which was definitely a good thing in Kim's book. She didn't bother to ask for a further explanation--as long as it did its job, Kim was content to live in ignorance in this case. The teen simply straightened up and started after Basil.
"Oh, y'know, stopping evil geniuses bent on either total domination or destruction, catching big-time thieves, tracking down dangerous escaped criminals, whatever the police or whoever's been on the case don't have the abilities or resources for. No big. I never work alone, so it's nothing I can't handle." She tried to play it off as casually as she could. Kim didn't want Basil to be intimidated or dazzled by her achievements, especially when she'd had so much help accomplishing all those things. "So, uh, what about you?"

"Impressive." Basil nodded his approval, he knew too well how much progress could be made when you weren't tied to any one law enforcement group.
He also mused on her mention of a friends pet named Rufus, wondering if he was named after the author Rufus Wilmot Griswald, the Supreme Court Justice Rufus Wheeler Peckman or the son of William the Conqueror. Latin for redhead (possibly the friend had some kind of admiration for the redheaded Kim and named their pet in kind). Then Kim asked him about his work.
"Oh me?" He fiddled with the device to check their direction. "I'm a freelance detective, but after the formation of Rohandor I was called in by our Queen, saved her life a while back, along with the rescue aid society, the rescue rangers and sundry other small adventurers to be counted among a series of agents the world over. Any of the royalty can call on me as a detective, spy, bodyguard, explorer or whatever they require. I usually work with my good friend Doctor Dawson, he's been collecting our case files for some sort of book recently." Basil bumped into someone as he looked back at his device. "Oh, excuse me...Good Lord."
It was another mouse in scruffy factory worker clothing, along with dozens of others walking in a daze down the street. Basil walked alongside them, making a quick inspection as best he could.
"Slack expression, dilated pupils, ears up. I'd say they're in some kind of trance. Heading towards Whitechapel, one of our initial leads." He adjusted the device again, flinching slightly at the ringing that was starting in his ears. "and directly following the source of the sound...the sound."
Basils arms dropped, letting the device hit the ground. The detectives ears perked up and his eyes went blank before he joined the procession of hypnotised mice. At the very least, he was still following the intended route towards the source of the ultrasound and presumably the villains behind it.
Kim had no idea who the Rescue Aid Society or the Rescue Rangers were--probably mice, like Basil, and thus under Wade's radar--but she had the distinct feeling that she should be impressed. And she had to admit, even without knowing much about the people Basil had worked for, his work did sound quite impressive. Especially considering that he was apparently having a book written about him. She was just about to say so when she noticed the other mice around them. The realization made her stop in her tracks, stumbling slightly in an attempt to avoid stepping on any of the rodents.
"Yeesh. Talk about rush hour." She mumbled as she gingerly stepped over and around the hordes of hypnotized mice. "Well, at least we can find out exactly where Jones is now..." She glanced over at her companion when she heard the device fall to the pavement, and immediately realized the gaping flaw in their plan.
"Shoot. I should've known the device would affect you too! Basil?" She picked her way over to where he had joined the procession, not entirely sure what she was hoping to accomplish. "Basil, if you can hear me, look up. C'mon, you can fight this."
Briefly, she considered shaking or grabbing him, but quickly reconsidered and came to a full stop. The last thing she wanted to do was hurt him while trying to help. "Okay, new plan." She muttered to herself, letting the last of the mouse mob brush past her feet. Once they were a safe distance ahead of her, she started to follow them again, this time more carefully, conscious that her enemy could be watching for his latest shipment of rodent minions nearby. She didn't want to raise Jones' alarms just yet if she could help it. Ideally, of course, she didn't want to raise his alarms at all, but missions seldom went exactly the way she wanted them to. Though she'd rather hope for the best, she knew it was smarter to plan for the worst.

Basil marched with the rest of the mesmerised crowd through the main and sidestreets until they ended up at a large derelict warehouse. Up on the rooftop a small broadcast tower beamed the ultrasonic lure across the city. On reaching the front of the building the doors were opened by human workers, two large well dressed men in expensive suits, sunglasses and earpiece radios. The mice marched in and assembled in an enclosure built into the middle of the warehouse floor, a several inch high wall keeping them in while not hindering the henchmen milling around.
"Alright, turn the device off and we'll start processing this batch." One of the guards spoke into his headset.
The workers and henchmen gathered the still dazed mice and took them to several different parts of the building. Some were taken to a small laboratory area where a few scientists put them through various tests such as mazes, basic problem solving or carrying various types of weights. While the rodents were confused about how they'd ended up in the lab they were quickly placated by the food that was handed out for successful completion of their tasks.
Basil was one of the mice set aside to wait their turn, each of them locked in a stack of cages taking up one of the warehouse walls. Sawdust floors, wire doors, bowl of water and a small padlock on the latch. As the guards got back to their other duties Basil drifted back to consciousness.
"So we just follow them and....Oh what the blazes?"
After his adventure in the lost city of Opar, Basil was sick and tired of mind control. Checking his pocketwatch he found that he had blacked out for several minutes, frustratingly his sharp mind didn't give him any immunity to the ultrasound and left him as helpless as the other mice. Still though, he was free to think now and had no intention to stand around doing nothing.
Reaching into his coat he pulled out a small toolbelt, taking a pair of wires and starting to work at the padlock. At his size he could easily reach into the keyhole and work directly at the mechanism.
"Hmm, the Centurion model Six. Secure enough unless you know about that due to cheap materials it only requires a little pressure on the spring and that equals freedom."
The lock clicked open and dropped to the floor, leaving Basil free to open the latch and push the cage door open. Unfortunatly the lock clattering attracted attention. White fur, thirty two inches from nose to tail and gnashing teeth kind of attention. Basil quickly shut the door again to prevent the animal from mauling him.
"Wolf hounds. No thank you." The detective muttered when his heart stopped pounding. One of the suited henchmen came to see what the problem was, taking one look at Basils handiwork before resecuring the cage and lifting it from the stack.
"We got a smart one, almost broke out. Get this, he talks too. I'll take him upstairs. Mister Jones will want to see this."
Basil kept quiet for once, settling for a defiant glare at the guard carrying his cage and the hound following. Apparently showing more of his intelligence would just get him more unwanted attention. As they passed the lab area and headed towards a stairwell the detective noted that they were picking out the smarter or stronger mice and sorting them away from the rejects, Basil having apparently met their criteria. Hopefully Kim was having better luck on her side.
Kim ducked into a nearby alley when she spotted the guards, hoping desperately that they hadn't seen her. There were no shouts of recognition, nothing that indicated the men were aware of her presence. She breathed a sigh of relief, and peeked around the corner. As they turned their backs, she fired her grappling hook up to the roof of the building she was hiding behind, and scaled the wall, leaving her umbrella in the alley.
Once at the top, Kim was able to take note of the security measures Jones had in place. There were definitely cameras, which looked quite out of place in this setting. Crouching low to avoid being seen, the teen pulled out her Kimmunicator and called Wade. Soon enough, he picked up. "S'up, Kim?"
"Wade. Jones has security cameras on his building. It's the building directly across the street from my coordinates. Think you can put 'em on a loop or something so I can get in without raising alarms?" He shrugged, grinning. "No problem. Just give me a moment..." He turned his attention to his computer screen, and there was less than a minute of frantic typing before he flashed a thumbs up. "There you go. I unlocked the roof entrance for you, too. And don't worry about the electronic security inside the building. All they've got is password-protected locks. Piece of cake."
Kim nodded, grinning back at him. "You're the best, Wade. Thanks." With that, she tucked the Kimmunicator back into her pocket, then took a running leap off the building to the roof of Jones' hideout. She rolled as she hit the roof, somersaulting into a crouched position. Thankfully, there was no-one else on the roof, so Kim slipped through the hatch Wade had unlocked into the building.
It was something of a dance, trying to avoid Jones' minions while searching the building for Basil and the other mice, but Kim had years of gymnastics training to help her. While hanging from the ceiling in yet another evasive maneuver, a part of her wondered if it wouldn't be smarter to be looking for Jones instead of going to retrieve Basil. But finding Basil likely meant finding the other mice, and setting them free would mean not only foiling Jones' plan and regaining her partner in this operation, but possibly gaining a small army of rodent allies as well.
She was just about to let herself drop back to the floor when she saw a guard walking her way, carrying a cage with a familiar mouse inside. She'd found Basil. After the man had passed, Kim let herself drop to the floor, landing without a sound. As stealthily as she could, the redhead followed behind, catching Basil's eye and putting a finger to her lips in the universal gesture for 'quiet'. She hoped that wherever the guard was taking the detective would lead them both to something they could use to stop Jones' scheme.

Basil caught sight of Kim as she dropped from the ceiling, relieved but not reacting in any manner that would give her away. He nodded his understanding of her message as the guard carried his cage upstairs towards a small office. On opening the door Basil picked out the top of a mans head from behind a high back, swivel chair behind a desk. The detective steadied himself as his cage was dropped onto the desk, the guard stepping back and folding his arms while the wolf hound curled up in the corner. The chair turned revealing a man in a purple monogrammed suit, tie with an expensive clip, slicked back hair and a thin moustache. This must be the infamous Falsetto Jones.
"We've been expecting you Rufus...wait you aren't Rufus." Jones spoke in an absurdly high pitched voice that had Basil pulling his ears down.
"Good lord. So that's why they call you Falsetto. and who is this Rufus?" Basil put together that if Jones was one of Kim's rogues then he'd probably know her friends pet. Naturally he'd keep what information he knew close rather than give anything away.
"Well, you'll have to excuse me. When my men told me of a rodent trying to escape and sneaking around I kind of assumed.....you haven't seen a Naked Mole Rat around?"
"In London? I think you're a few continents off. They're indigenous to Africa."
"I know that but...never mind. Who are you exactly?" Jones leaned closer to inspect Basil. "You're not like the others we've lured in. I'm actually impressed by your near escape and I'd like to give you a very important place in one of my business ventures. I've been seeking talented members of your species and you seem to have a lot of talent."
"Just Basil will do. and thanks but no thanks. I'm not in the habit of taking offers from the inside of a confined space."
Basil was putting on a neutral face, but Jones voice was getting to him. Almost as bad as the ultrasonic device. From what he'd put together so far Falsetto needed specific abilities for stealing the Crown Jewels aside from just sending in a legion of mice to carry them out. Basil's lockpicking was apparently on his list. From his offer it seemed that he couldn't just use the device to force Basil to work for him, perhaps being in a trance would dull his reactions too much for the task.
"I'm afraid No isn't an option little fella. I'd hate to have to resort to drastic measures of coercion."
"Worse than this conversation? I've met a lot of villains who love to hear themselves talk but at least they stuck with a lower pitch."
Jones drummed his fingers for a second before rifling through his desk drawer, eventually presenting a dictionary. Basil rolled his eyes as Jones flicked the book open. Torture by high note of all things. Still, at least it would give Kim some time to finish what she was doing. By the time he reached B she could have gathered all the evidence she needed, took a brisk walk down the street and phoned the police with time to stop for a late lunch.
"A, Aardvark, Aback, Abacus..."
Okay, maybe it was getting a little unbearable.
ooc: PM me if you need something changed. Not sure where I was going with this XD
Kim nearly cursed out loud when she realized what she was walking into--a sealed box containing Jones, his buff security guard, and a fairly ferocious-looking dog. She shadowed the guard as best she could, and the instant his attention was diverted to placing Basil on the desk, she dove underneath, hoping there wasn't a second dog at Jones' feet.
Fortunately, there wasn't, although the sudden sound of the master criminal's grating voice nearly jarred her into giving herself away. Gritting her teeth and wishing she'd thought to bring earplugs, she set to work. First, she tied Jones' shoes together. An old trick, and admittedly a corny one, but it almost always worked. She was about to reach for a desk drawer to see if anything useful could be found when Jones reached for the same drawer. In a panic, she drew her hand back, trying not to overbalance and roll out from under the desk.
As soon as Jones started reading, Kim knew it was the opportune moment to act. Sneaking a hand around, she opened the desk drawer, awkwardly feeling around for a remote or something similar. Jones wasn't the type to leave all the work to his underlings--after all, if you wanted something done right, you had to do it yourself. No, she knew he would have some kind of master key to the whole operation somewhere. Hopefully it was in his drawer and not his pocket.
Finally, her hand closed around something oblong, and she snatched it away for a closer look. It certainly looked like a means of control for either the device or his security system, but without a label, it was hard to tell. Then again, with a label, it would seem like a fake. She'd simply have to trust her instincts on this one and hope for the best. Deciding she'd had enough of Jones' squeaking, Kim rolled out from under the desk, swiping her leg at the guard and causing him to fall. Quickly, the teen righted herself, whipping out her knockout lip balm case to neutralize the guard further, and holding the remote so that Jones could see.
"The jig's up, Jones. You're going back to prison, and I'm going to personally escort you there."
The villain laughed, a sound which was somehow more annoying than his reading from the dictionary. "Oh, please! What're you going to do with my TV remote?" Kim's heart felt as though it had dropped into her stomach. Trusting her instincts hadn't been the best course of action after all. Now she would be locked up too, and any hope of stopping Falsetto before he'd stolen the jewels would fly right out the window.
Kim's melancholy thoughts were interrupted by the man's high-pitched voice. He was reaching for a button set into the wood of his desk, that would presumably summon extra security. Meanwhile, the guard from before was groggily getting to his feet. "Now, if you're quite finished, I have a scheme to a--" An idea popped into Kim's head. She leaned on the desk with a smug smile, carefully blocking the button from his reach and placing the knockout lip balm near Basil's cage. "The scheme where you brainwash a bunch of innocent mice into stealing the crown jewels for you? Yeah, we figured that one out already. Next?"
If she could just keep him talking, not only could she gather all the details of Jones' plan, she'd also give Basil time to get out of his cage and help her with her new Plan B. She could only hope he'd figure out how to use the knockout gas without being hit with its effects himself.

Basil was honestly impressed with Kim's skill nearly invisible entry into the room and neutralisation of the guard with martial arts and some kind of gas firing device. Soon she was confronting Jones and holding one of his contraptions as leverage, which unfortunately turned out to be less than vital to his plans. Jones smirked as she laid out her current knowledge on his plan.
"You don't know the half of it Miss Possible."
"Actually you're about seventy five percent there." Basil cut in as he got to work on the cage lock again. The door was soon sprung once more and he walked out onto the desk. "He's also picking out specially talented individuals for the delicate parts of his plan. These individuals can't be under the control of the device as they require full mental clarity so he intends application of the carrot or the stick as he needs it. Was there anything else?"
Suddenly the wolf hound poked his head over the edge of the table, snapping at the detective. Basil sprang back, grabbing the lip balm that Kim had put down and struggled to get it working. Eventually working out the mechanism the dog slumped over as his head was engulfed in a small cloud of sedative chemical.
"Hmm. Do they make these in a smaller size? Most useful." He turned back towards Jones. "Hold it. He's trying to..never mind. Impressive foresight Miss Possible."
Kim's preparedness had come in useful as Jones made to run for the door, only to trip over his own tied laces and end up on the floor. Basil crawled down the desk into the open drawer and started searching for something useful, eventually coming out with a small ball of string and climbing back up to start unraveling it.
"Now I suppose we should restrain Mister Falsetto here, find a telephone and alert the proper authorities to.."
A ringing in his ears cut into his train of thought. Then things went blank for a second. When he came to Basil was putting the finishing touches on a well tied knot.
"to this location. What just happened?"
"You just took two minutes to finish that sentence for one thing. Of course for you it probably felt like a second." Jones said, suddenly sitting back in his chair and showing one of his cufflinks. "Personal override for the device."
Basil, having an uneasy feeling as he guessed where this was going, turned to find that in his entranced state he'd use the string to bind his partner in this endeavor rather than the villain. Before he could rush to undo his error Jones grabbed his tail and held him in mid air, gently tapping the security button with the other hand. The detective attempted several punches at the criminal, who easily held him at a safe distance to render his resistance moot.
"You were right about talented individuals. Keeping the carrot and stick in mind, how about this. You work fast getting my team into the tower and if you get back here fast enough Kim might yet survive whatever nasty fate I think up. Heck, this factory as a lot of nice stuff. You'll get a head start while I decide what to use."
The very minute the detective worked a way out of this mess he'd spend the next few nights at the worktable developing reliable earplugs.
ooc: Sorry, working off spy movie formula. I'll redo the whole thing if you can't work with it, don't worry about asking if that is the case.
Kim's gaze flickered between Basil and Jones, wanting to take in all the information Basil had but not wanting to give Jones a chance to pull some sort of trick. The master criminal, meanwhile, glared at them both from behind his desk. The dog's brief assault on Basil startled her, and while her attention was elsewhere Jones had evidently tried to stand and make a break for it. Fortunately his tangled shoelaces tripped him up, just as Kim had hoped they would.
And yet, even with his plans nearly foiled, Jones was grinning. Too late, Kim spotted the button on his cufflink. "Basil, I--oh, not again." She turned to see that the mouse's eyes had glazed over. Jones was snickering from his spot on the floor. Kim glared back at him, moving to take the remote and wrest control of Basil's mind away from the villain, but before she could take another step, she toppled to the ground. Basil was at her feet, binding her ankles with the length of string he'd taken from Jones' desk. He made quick work of tying her up completely, though Jones did absolutely nothing to help. The thief extraordinaire was busy working at the knot she'd created in his shoelaces.
He finally untangled the laces and stood up, dusting himself off. Basil started speaking again, obviously freed from the hold Falsetto Jones' device had on him moments ago. While Jones gloated, Kim shifted position on the floor, attempting to gain access to the laser ring she was wearing under her glove. She knew she had to move quickly--Jones had likely summoned security by now, and he'd made Basil an offer that was difficult to refuse. Kim had to admit, he was a smarter opponent than most of the supervillains she usually faced. How she wished she was facing someone easier to outwit, like Junior or Duff Killigan.
But there was no time to dwell on that, not when she'd succeeded in freeing her hand and removing her glove. She activated the laser and cut through the string binding her feet just as the door to Jones' office opened. Kim sprang to her feet as the string fell away, using her free hand to knock Basil out of Jones' grasp and back onto the desk. She clawed at the villain's cufflink, hoping to at least get it away from him, but had no way of knowing whether it had worked, as her attention was quickly taken up by the three guards that had entered the room. "Basil, use the knockout lip balm on Jones and try to find a way to disable the device. I'll take care of these guys." With that, she leaped into action, taking down the first guard with a snap-kick to the chin. She ducked to avoid the next guard's right hook, using the man's momentum to guide him to the floor while lashing out at the third of Jones' minions with her free arm.
