Kim made an interesting counter to the offer set out by Jones, namely through disarming him of both the control device in his cufflink and Basil in one strike. As Basil landed on the desk he dove for the spray device and doused Jones with a heavy spray. The criminal slumped face down on the desk.
"Well that's him down but he might have.." Basil turned to see Kim in the middle of a brutal melee with the guards. "You know what. Never mind."
For now Basil got to work on the cufflink, pulling it open to look over the interior mechanism. He got the in's and out's pretty quick despite his limited experience with micro circuitry, but his intelligence and size in relation helped. Suddenly a fist slammed down on the desk next to him, belonging to one of the suited guards. Putting his pent up frustration to use Basil grabbed the cufflink with his tail and ran up the guards sleeve.
"It's in my jacket, get it out getitout getitout!"
In an act that wasn't beneficial to his demands for aid, the guard flailed around trying to remove Basil and ended up punching out another two guards as they entered the office. The detective's next move was to pop out of the jacket collar and dangle from the guards sunglasses, provoking him to unthinkingly swing his fist towards his own face. Basil jumped off his opponent as he dropped like a sack, landing on Kim's shoulder to relay his progress with the device. As impressive as her talents were so far, he didn't want to put all his eggs in the 'let her fight an entire building of thugs' basket.
"I think I can adjust the frequency of the sound put out by the device to something more useful for us. The problem is twofold, first I'll need to work on the device itself and secondly you might need to hold off security until it's ready." The sound of reinforcements came from the stairwell, including a second hound from the sound of it. "Which sounds like a lot. Seriously do they get a bonus for recruiting three friends?"
Kim couldn't quite suppress the triumphant smirk that crept onto her face. Despite the inauspicious start to their mission of infiltrating Falsetto Jones' London hideout, Kim felt like she was definitely in the zone now. Still, she was grateful for Basil's intervention with the guards, as it gave her a bit of a breather. All she had to do was keep out of the way as the guard Basil had targeted dispatched his coworkers. The mouse was starting to remind her more and more of Rufus in his resourcefulness and intelligence, if not his ability for speech.
"Got it. I can fight them off." The redhead's lips twisted into a frown briefly at the realization that Jones had likely hired a large number of minions to guard such a large building, and that they were likely all aware of her presence there. She reached up to her shoulder to set Basil down on the desk. "On second thought, let's make fighting them our backup plan. I think we can find another way to keep them away from us."
She grabbed Jones' chair out from under him and dragged it to the door, which she shut before propping the chair underneath the doorknob. "If you need anything from Jones' desk, grab it now. We've gotta get out of here before they break down the door." Kim called to her rodent companion as she strode to the one window in the room, right behind the desk. Pushing the window open, she stuck her head and shoulders out and squinted upwards, pulling out her grappling hook gun as she did so.
Outside the room, someone banged on the door, nearly shattering Kim's concentration. She took a deep breath and carefully aimed the device at the roof and pulled the trigger. The hook caught on the edge of the roof, and Kim grinned. The teenage heroine ducked back into the room to check on Basil's progress. "Whenever you're ready, Basil." She stretched her free arm to the desk. "Grab on, and hold on tight. We're going up!"

Basil didn't really know what to expect from the device, so he just grabbed several items from the desk that seemed useful. Staples, rubber bands, paperclips and other basic conductors and insulators. Meanwhile he noticed Kim pulling out yet another gadget, a grappling hook launcher that she quickly launched at the rooftop. Inwardly he was slightly envious and made a mental note to design his own after this case. After gathering enough stationary he coiled his tail around them and the cufflink control before holding on to Kim's gloved finger.
"Ready when you are..one moment." Basil used his other hand to hold his deerstalker in place, having learned the hard way about headwear and aerial travel during his jungle expedition with Jane Porter some time back. "Alright, ready."
Thankfully this trip was a little shorter than travelling by vine swinging, though it was no less a strain on the detective. At least his human companion seemed to have it down to a reflexive action as she carried the both of them to the rooftop and landed with the athletic grace similar to her fighting style. Basil dropped off her hand and ran towards the most obvious culprit for the transmission device, a small antenna tower with a control box at the base. The mouse scurried up the panel and pried it open to work on the internals.
"This shouldn't take more than a minute. Activating it is a simple task but I'll need to adjust the outgoing signal first. Oh come on now!"
As the box swung open Basil growled in frustration as he saw the workings were a bundle of disorganised wires criss crossing, tangling and obscuring everything. The device worked well but clearly it was put together hastily and presumably intended to be abandoned after the Tower robbery. Basil rolled up his sleeves and dove on in to find what he needed to adjust the signal.
"Maybe two minutes. You'll know when I'm finished."
As he crawled through the web of wires Basil put his mind to working out the right frequency that would affect the guards but not Kim. Though both were beneficial outcomes to ending any hostilities it probably wouldn't do to hypnotise his case partner as well.
The ascension and landing were as easy as breathing--Kim's gymnastic training had really paid off, though definitely not in the way she or her parents had initially expected. She nodded to Basil as he explained his plan. The teen left him to his work as she went to the edge of the roof to check whether the guards had broken through the door yet and discovered they were missing.
She hadn't brought her regular compact mirror along--it was at the hotel, probably still in her suitcase--so she settled for just barely peering over the edge. She ducked back as soon as she saw a man stick his head out the window, hoping she had been fast enough to avoid detection.
"Hey! I think I saw something on the roof!"
Kim winced, but knew she couldn't dwell on her mistake. She pulled herself up and away from the roof's edge to make a dash for the door, ready to brace herself against it. "Basil, I don't mean to rush you or distract you or anything, but security's on their way up and I don't know how long I can keep this door closed." As if on cue, the doorknob turned. Kim let the door open a few inches before slamming it closed, knocking out the first guard through the door and--she hoped--incapacitating the others nearest him for a little while.
She put her back to the door and leaned heavily on it, sighing. Someone banged on the door, making her jump slightly, but she held firm enough to stop the door from opening more than a crack. "Basil, please hurry..." She muttered to herself as the guards continued to assault the door.

"Almost ready."
Basil continued working with the machine even as he heard the commotion out on the roof from Kim trying to hold back the guards. His current concern was the range of the device. Without the proper adjustments he could wind up broadcasting all over London, so he put his mind to work approximating the broadcast distance to hopefully cover no further than the warehouse.
Next, after crawling through another web of wires, came adjusting the frequency. Using two paperclips Basil began tuning the machine to find the best sound to project. "Okay, human auditory range is between twenty hertz and twenty kilo hertz. Adjust for the differences between adult males and teenage females." Basil muttered the next part. "Even if I'm wrong, which I almost never am, this should work almost perfectly."
Finishing his adjustments, Basil crawled out and retrieved the cufflink control, pressing down on it with all his weight. A small shower of sparks burst from the control panel as the hasty modifications took effect. A low hum came from the rooftop emitters and spread over the building as it increased in pitch. Basil's ears perked up again but only due to mild annoyance at the noise. The pounding on the doorway slowed, then stopped as the human staff were overcame by their own weapon. The detective, looking satisfied with himself, crossed the rooftop to check with his partner.
"Well that worked well, wouldn't you say Miss Possible?"
His expression dropped as a lingering doubt in his calculations kicked in. In all the excitement and near electrocution he may or may not have forgotten to short a few parts while tuning the device.
More banging on the door nearly knocked Kim off balance, but she held firm, digging her heels in. As irritatingly determined as these guards were, Kim was grateful they didn't appear to have the brains to have thought of scaling the outside of the building. At least, she desperately hoped that they hadn't figured that out, and weren't using the guards at the door as a distraction while the others climbed up to take her by surprise.
It seemed the guards had found or fashioned some sort of battering ram, because the next push from behind the door was so strong it finally did cause Kim to stumble. The door was flung open, and it knocked the teen heroine to the ground.
Kim sprang up, twisting to face the doorway in a battle-ready stance. The guards, however, were standing stock still, their expressions blank. They looked just like Basil had when he was under the effects of Jones' device. Basil called her name, and she realized she hadn't moved. Hastily, she straightened up, giving Basil a quick smile before turning her attention back to the guards.
"Sorry. I'm fine. Just a bit, um, dazed, I guess. Whatever you did, it definitely worked."

"Oh, good. Thought that you were...I'd better sort this lot out." Basil turned to the hypnotised guards. Briefly he was tempted to spend some time enjoying the reversal of fortune after what they'd put him through, but his sense of duty won out.
"Alright, all of you listen very carefully. Go downstairs and free all the mice, then lay out all the evidence of your robbery plan. Then I want you to gather rope or chains and the like and restrain yourselves, then the last one call Scotland Yard and explain everything before locking yourself in a cupboard or the like. When you're all finished yell out all together so I know when to turn the device off. Now get to it."
Falsetto's crew turned on the spot collectively and marched back downstairs to carry out their orders as Basil clambered up on a ledge to converse with Kim on an equal level. He sat down and turned the cufflink over in his hands, waiting for the signal so he could shut the signal down rather than have the police fall under control as well. The device was an astounding piece of technology, with a sinister purpose surely but the work put into it would have amazing potential in many other situations. and apparently Miss Possible was used to such technology where she came from.
"So, your line of work must be interesting. Hopefully not always like this but...what was that other contraption of yours?" He indicated her phone/computer hanging from her belt. Not that he knew what it was. "I didn't see you use that one."
The work was still going on downstairs, so unless anything unforeseen happened then the secret agent and the detective might as well compare notes until they could leave. Admittedly they worked together well, they doubled their efficiency when using similar skills while having just enough differences to cover each others handicaps. Again he noticed how she seemed to have reflexive responses during the case when working with the much smaller mouse, presumably learned behaviour from this Rufus she mentioned. Plus he finally had a case not involving confusing elements like magic (though the newer advanced technology needed looking into before it became just as troublesome). "and I'm sorry about the whole tying you up part." Basil's ears dropped as he looked aside awkwardly. Mind control was becoming an irritant for him, especially when he was forced to work against his allies.
Kim stood back and let Basil do his thing. Every once in a while during his short speech, she raised her eyebrows, still not entirely believing that the device had worked on the guards, and worked so effectively that they were now going to take orders from a mouse. She had to admit, the whole thing was quite impressive, especially given how detailed Basil's instructions were. He had everything covered, it seemed.
It was odd, watching Jones' goons depart without protest. And how ironic that the very people Kim and Basil had been fighting just a few minutes ago were now about to essentially do their jobs for them. "Nicely done." Kim said to her rodent companion after all the guards had gone. She leaned on the door frame, crossing her arms.
"It is, yeah. But I'm sure your work is just as interesting. From what I've seen and heard today, it seems to be pretty similar to what I do. Well, most of the time, anyway, it's kinda like this." She glanced down at her Kimmunicator. "This?" She held it up for him to see better. "I call it a Kimmunicator. I can call people on it, take pictures, get maps or blueprints or other stuff from my tech guy Wade... It's got a bunch of functions, I can't always keep track of them." She laughed. "Sorry, some of this must sound like gibberish to you. I know there isn't really technology like this on this Isle."
She stared at the blank screen of the device for a moment, then tucked it into her pocket. Kim knew she was smart, but she still felt dumb when faced with certain subjects--operating complicated technology the way Basil had rewired Jones' cufflink device, for example. She couldn't possibly explain how her Kimmunicator worked or what it could do in a way that Basil would understand. Such a task was best left to Wade, or her father.
Kim was just contemplating calling Wade to let him speak to the mouse when said mouse spoke again. "Hey, you don't have to apologize. It wasn't your fault." She smiled at him, shrugging. She'd had worse 'betrayals', though she wasn't about to recount the incident with 'Eric' today. Or ever, ideally.

"Thank you very much." Basil replied as Kim showed her approval of his control of the guards. It was nice to be appreciated and with their similar careers she had a good perspective on things. "Unusual occurrences leading into elaborate criminal plots by overly dramatic and egotistical villains? I suppose we do have the same kind of work."
He took a glance at the 'Kimmunicator' as she described the different functions of the device. Most impressive and unlike anything he'd seen in the other Isles the detective had visited so far. A portable, cordless phone with various other features that would certainly prove useful in the field whereas Basil would have to run back to Baker Street if he wanted any information that he didn't keep memorised. He returned a slight laugh as Kim got lost in her explanation, trying to translate it for the 19th century mouse.
"I think I understood everything up until Wade."
Anglo Saxon word for move, in English use meaning crossing water on foot. Clearly this Wade was a well traveled ally of Kim, presumably he was always out field testing the impressive equipment she used. No wonder she needed such an impressive communication method to keep up with him. Then she dismissed the necessity of his apology, apparently mind control was easily forgiven. Still frustrating though, for all his intelligence there was apparently no defense when anyone wanted to use magic or technology to overwrite free will.
"At least I know to bring earplugs next time." From downstairs the guards all gave out a short, sharp shout in unison. Basil took it as a sign to turn the device off so that the police wouldn't fall under control when raiding the building. Afterwards he offered Kim the cufflink. "About time they finished. Do you suppose Wade would like to look this over? It would just gather dust in my flat and I don't want my landlady turning it on again. So what's next?"
ooc: Hope the running joke about Basil's preconceived notions of Kim's team isn't getting old. Gonna be fun if he meets Wade and Rufus though XD.
She laughed softly. "Yeah, especially when you put it that way, it's pretty obvious how much we have in common." She wondered how much time they could spend swapping stories--after all, the only real difference between them, aside from the fact that she was a human and he was a mouse, was the extent that technology had advanced in their respective homes.
"Oh, Wade is the guy who designs and builds pretty much all my gadgets. He made the Kimmunicator, and my grappling-hook... He could probably explain all this better than I could. I could give him a call, if--" She reached for her Kimmunicator, but the guards' shouting signaled that their brief moment of leisure was at an end.
Gingerly, she took the cufflink, tucking it in the pocket that held her Kimmunicator. "Definitely. Thanks, Basil. For everything, I mean." She grinned at him. "We could go find something to eat--I don't know about you, but defeating criminal masterminds can really work up my appetite."

"Maybe next time I could join in on a case at your Isle." Basil mused. "Perhaps meet your coworkers. It's a shame mine were otherwise occupied tonight."
The voices from downstairs grew angrier, apparently the mind control having worn off fully and the criminal occupants of the warehouse noticing the position they were in. Luckily it seemed that they had followed orders to the letter and found difficulty escaping from their self arrest. The ringing of bells from down the streets suggested that the police were on their way leaving the spy and the detective free to hand over the cleanup to Her Majesty's finest.
"Your welcome Miss Possible, but thank you for bringing this incident to my attention." Basil showed some rare humility, considering that Kim could have carried out her mission without seeking him out first. "and certainly. A late meal would be nice. I'll meet you on the ground."
Basil rushed to the edge of the rooftop, finding the guttering and slipping down the drain pipe. He pressed his limbs against the insides of the pipe to slow his descent as he slid downwards. He could have easily gotten a lift from Kim, but after the events of this job he wanted to do some things for himself for a while. As he emerged on the street he gave a quick salute to the passing Bobbies as they rushed into the building, maybe tomorrow he'd drop in at the station and fill in the blanks regarding the events of the night.
"So, any preferences?" Basil offered to lead the way to whatever establishment Kim wanted. "I don't know if you've been to London before but I'd imagine the layout has changed with the Isle formations."
Kim smiled. "Yeah, that'd be cool." The two crime-fighters had made quite the team, so far. She knew she'd found another valuable ally and friend in Basil. Though, she had to admit, she wasn't so sure about introducing him to Ron or Rufus. Too many things could go wrong with that.
She banished the thought from her mind with a slight shake of her head, following Basil to the roof's edge. Lowering herself down so that her feet were touching the window ledge below, Kim clambered down the side of the building with relative ease, using the drainpipe and window ledges--not to mention her gymnastic skills--to her advantage. She met Basil on the ground just as the policemen and mice disappeared into the building.
The teen shrugged. "I think as long as it's not haggis or anything like that, I'll be fine." She joked. "You're right, I've been to London before, but it was way different. I'd really appreciate a tour guide."

"There goes my surprise, what a shame." Basil returned the joke. "Whitechapel Gallery then?"
The trip was reasonably short by Kim's level, but Basil had to rush a bit to keep up. Briefly he regretted not seeking out Toby, though the hound would have been a little lost keeping up with the acrobatic feats Kim was performing. The Whitechapel Gallery was a recently opened art gallery that made a lot of business from displaying pieces on loan from all over Rohandor. A cafe took up the upper level and provided a good dining atmosphere overlooking the artwork below. On arrival Basil easily managed to get a table for the two investigators.
"I was on a case a few months back, the Princess Ariel and myself prevented the theft of several items from one of the larger museums." He explained, leaving out the part where he was initially overlooked by the grateful bystanders until Ariel cleared things up later. "Normally I wouldn't take advantage of such perks but...the location makes for good dining."
Unfortunately while he was more welcome than he was in other establishments, the staff hadn't really prepared for customers of his size, though a few small items were used to improvise leading to Basil sitting with a thimble of tea once again as he made conversation with Kim comparing similar stories, techniques, comparisons and differences plus a little competitive banter over a few cases.
"Alright. Deathtraps, you must have a good deathtrap story."
Kim tried to keep her strides smaller and her pace slower so that the mouse would be able to keep up, but watching Basil jogging along beside her, she wasn't sure she'd done a good job with that. Still, he seemed to be in good spirits, so she wouldn't let herself feel too bad about it.
She smiled. "I understand. I've done the same before. Travelling around is so much easier when you've got former clients who can give you free rides." She hoped she didn't sound like she was bragging--really, she was just happy to have helped all those people, and immensely grateful that they were so willing to give her assistance as well.
The teen stifled a laugh at the attempts by the restaurant staff to accommodate the mouse. It was clever, certainly, and quite impressive, but there was a certain amount of humour to be had from watching a waitress carrying a thimble full of tea. "Deathtraps..." This time, she did laugh. "Oh, I have way too many deathtrap stories. There was this one time I was suspended in a net over this tiny, shallow little pool of snapping turtles--the guy was on a tight budget. Least intimidating deathtrap I've ever been in, and I've been in plenty. How about you?"

Basil rubbed his chin as he ran through all the deathtraps he'd been in, trying to select a good story to compare to snapping turtles and meager budgets.
"Hmm, Tied to a set of train tracks. Not real ones though, they stole a model set from a toy store. They lost the instructions and actually had the nerve to ask me to assemble it for them. I just set all the switch tracks to keep it going in circles until I could slip loose."
The conversation continued along the same kind of pattern, both Kim and Basil comparing similar cases or events and seeing who had the most impressive/irritating/amusing. Deathtraps, thievery, stealth, disguises, kidnapped scientists, stolen relics and most of all villains. Basil had some well chosen words about his own nemesis, Professor Ratigan, especially about his plan to use a robot duplicate of the Queen to declare himself Royal Consort and pass whatever tyrannical law he wanted.
Despite Basil's issues with socialising he managed to keep his more distasteful personality traits to a minimum, most likely from the mutual respect he had for someone in a similar career with the intelligence to keep up with him. Not to say he didn't have friends in Dawson, Toby or any of the other allies he had met across Rohandor, but the mutual interests helped. Eventually the conversation wound down as Basil noticed the staff mopping the floors, checking his pocket watch in shock.
"Good lord it's that late already? I'm sorry if I've delayed you Miss Possible. I hope you didn't miss anything you had planned."
ooc: anything else need doing or should we wind this one down?
David Xanatos: Kat's back. Hope the vacation was fun.
